   (2) On the PDL, set the ON/OFF switch to ON.
   (3) Upload the applicable software to the PDL.
   (4) On the PDL, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
   (5) Remove the blanking cap from ATSU DATA LOADER connector 183VC on the bottom right corner of the electronics rack 80VU, when you look aft.
   (6) Connect the PDL cable to ATSU DATA LOADER connector 183VC.

NOTE: This software-component reference check compares the part number (PN) on the LRU IDENTIFICATION page and the AOC MENU page of the Multipurpose Control & Display Unit (MCDU) with the PN on the software media. The PN on the PDL and the PN on the software media or on the LRU IDENTIFICATION and AOC MENU page can be different.
   (1) Do the procedure to get access to the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST/INFO SYS page (Ref. AMM TASK 31-32-00-860-013):
     (a) If the access to the LRU IDENTIFICATION page is not possible, or if no software component is uploaded to the Air Traffic Service Unit (ATSU):

4. Procedure
CAUTION: YOU MUST DO A CHECK OF THE INTEGRITY OF THE MEDIA USED FOR THE SOFTWARE UPLOADING. MAKE SURE THAT YOU CORRECTLY COPIED THE DIRECTORY WITH ALL THE HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, THERE IS A RISK OF FAILURE OF THE SOFTWARE UPLOADING.

A. Preparation of the ATSU Software Components Upload
   (1) The ATSU include several Software (S/W) components. Their upload must be done in the following order:
  • S/W ATSU A/C INTERFACE software component (20TX)
  • S/W ATSU CONFIGURATION software component (21TX)
  • S/W ATSU ROUTER PARAM software component (30TX).
    And if installed:
  • S/W ATSU ATC UTILITIES software component (25TX)
  • S/W ATSU FANS A APPLICATIONS software component (35TX)
  • S/W ATSU ATC FANS B APPLICATIONS software component (36TX)
  • S/W ATSU ATC FANS APPLICATIONS (39TX)
  • S/W ATSU CMA CONFIGURATION software component (37TX)
  • S/W ATSU ATC ARINC 623 APPLICATIONS software component (23TX)
  • S/W AOC software component (22TX)
  • S/W AOC DATABASE software component (24TX)
  • S/W ATSU ISM APPLICATION software component (31TX)

   (2) For some ATSU configurations, if some components are possibly not uploaded, the order above must be followed.

B. Upload of the ATSU Software Components (20TX, 21TX and 30TX)
CAUTION: DURING THE UPLOADING OF THE SOFTWARE COMPONENT(S) TO THE ATSU MAKE SURE THAT:
  • MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL DO NOT CHANGE THE SOURCE OF THE AIRCRAFT POWER SUPPLY (GROUND POWER UNIT, APU, ETC.)
  • MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE THE DATA LOADER SELECTOR(S).
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE TWO PRECAUTIONS, THERE CAN BE ERASURE OF ALL THE SOFTWARE COMPONENTS LOADED INTO THE ATSU. IT CAN THEN BE NECESSARY TO START THE UPLOADING PROCEDURE OF ALL THE ATSU SOFTWARE COMPONENTS AGAIN.
   (1) You must upload all the software components that follow in this sequence and one after the other:
  • First, the ATSU A/C INTERFACE software component (20TX)
  • Then, the ATSU CONFIGURATION software component (21TX) and ATSU ROUTER PARAMETERS software component (30TX).
     (a) You can upload these last two softwares independently if the ATSU A/C INTERFACE software is uploaded.
     (b) Between each software upload procedure:
       1 On the PDL, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
       2 Disconnect the PDL.
       3 Connect the PDL again.
NOTE: The loading time for a full disk changes in relation to the software, the maximum loading time is 40 minutes.
     (c) When you upload the software 30TX:
       1 If the P/Ns of the software 20TX and 30TX are not compatible:
         a It is necessary to upload the ATSU software 20TX and 21TX again.
   (2) Do the procedure in the table that follows:

  • Set the ON/OFF switch to ON.
On the PDL:
  • The < < MDDU READY > > indication comes into view.
2.On the PDL:
  • Put the disk into the disk drive.
On the PDL:

  • Then, the WAIT RESPONSE indication comes into view.
  • Then, the < < TRANSF IN PROG > > indication comes into view.
NOTE: If more than one disk is necessary to do the upload, the EJECT DISK and INSERT NEXT DISK indications come into view one after the other. They tell the operator to put a new disk into the PDL.
NOTE: If more than one disk is necessary to do the upload and if a transfer fault occurs, the upload must start from disk 1.
3.If a transfer fault occurs, wait for a minimum of three minutes:
  • After you set the ON/OFF switch on the PDL to OFF and
  • Before you start the upload of the software again.
Then, the ATSU can complete its power-on self-test.


On the upper ECAM DU:
  • The COM ACARS FAULT or DATALINK ATSU FAULT warning comes into view.

On the MCDU MENU page:
  • The ATSU prompt does not come into view.

On the PDL:
  • When the upload is completed, the TRANSF COMPLETE indication comes into view.
4.On the PDL:
  • Eject the disk from the disk drive.
  • Do the same operation from step 2 to step 4 for each set of disks that you must upload.

In the avionics compartment:
  • On the PDL, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
  • Disconnect the cable of the PDL from ATSU DATA LOADER connector 183VC.
  • Put the blanking cap on ATSU DATA LOADER connector 183VC.


On the upper ECAM DU:
  • The COM ACARS FAULT or DATALINK ATSU FAULT warning goes out of view after approximately one minute.
NOTE: When the PDL is disconnected, the ATSU does a power-on self-test. The COM ACARS FAULT or DATALINK ATSU FAULT warning goes out of view at the end of this test.

On the MCDU MENU page:
  • The ATSU prompt comes into view.
NOTE: If the ATSU router is not initialized, the ACARS STBY memo or the DATALINK ATSU FAULT + ATSU INIT FAULT warning comes into view on the upper ECAM DU.
Subtask 46-21-00-970-050-E ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: DURING THE UPLOADING OF THE SOFTWARE COMPONENT(S) TO THE ATSU MAKE SURE THAT:

B. Upload of the ATSU Software Component (20TX)
NOTE: The loading time for a full disk changes in relation to the software. The maximum loading time is 40 minutes.
   (1) Do the procedure in the table that follows:

IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE TWO PRECAUTIONS, THERE CAN BE ERASURE OF ALL THE SOFTWARE COMPONENTS LOADED INTO THE ATSU. IT CAN THEN BE NECESSARY TO START THE UPLOADING PROCEDURE OF ALL THE ATSU SOFTWARE COMPONENTS AGAIN.
C. Uploading of the ATSU ATC Applications.
NOTE: If an uploading is in progress, the DATALINK ATSU FAULT comes into view on the upper ECAM DU.
   (1) Do the steps that follow only when you must upload software components 25TX, 35TX, 36TX, 39TX, 37TX or/and 23TX.
     (a) If it is not necessary to upload these software components, go directly to the next Para.
   (2) Upload the applicable ATSU software component(s) that follow in this sequence:
  • ATC HMI UTILITIES software (25TX)
  • ATSU ATC FANSA APPLICATIONS software (35TX)
  • ATSU ATC FANSB APPLICATIONS software (36TX)
  • ATSU ATC FANSC APPLICATIONS software (39TX)
  • ATSU CMA CONFIGURATION software (37TX)
  • ATSU ATC ARINC 623 APPLICATIONS software (23TX).
NOTE: The loading time for a full set of disks is approximately twelve minutes.
     (a) Between each software uploading procedure:
       1 On the PDL, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
       2 Disconnect the PDL.
       3 Connect the PDL again.
   (3) Do the procedure given in the table that follows:

On the PDL:

  • After you set the ON/OFF switch on the PDL to OFF
  • Before you start the uploading of the ATSU software again.
Then, the ATSU can complete its power-on self-test.


On the upper ECAM DU:
  • The COM ACARS FAULT warning comes into view.

On the MCDU MENU page:
  • The ATSU prompt does not come into view.

On the PDL:
  • When the uploading is completed, the TRANSF COMPLETE indication comes into view.
4.On the PDL:
  • Eject the disk from the disk drive.
  • Do the steps 2 thru 4 for each set of disks that you must upload.


In the avionics compartment:
  • On the PDL, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
  • Disconnect the cable of the PDL from ATSU DATA LOADER connector 183VC.
  • Put the blanking cap on ATSU DATA LOADER connector 183VC.

On the upper ECAM DU:
  • The COM ACARS FAULT or DATALINK ATSU FAULT warning goes out of view after approximately one minute.
NOTE: When the PDL is disconnected, the ATSU does a power-on self-test. The COM ACARS FAULT warning goes out of view at the end of this test.

On the MCDU MENU page:
  • The ATSU prompt comes into view.
NOTE: If the initialization of the ATSU router does not occur, the ACARS STBY memo or the DATALINK ATSU FAULT + ATSU INIT FAULT warning comes into view on the upper ECAM DU.

D. Upload of the ATSU AOC Applications

IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE TWO PRECAUTIONS, THERE CAN BE ERASURE OF ALL THE SOFTWARE COMPONENTS LOADED INTO THE ATSU. IT CAN THEN BE NECESSARY TO START THE UPLOADING PROCEDURE OF ALL THE ATSU SOFTWARE COMPONENTS AGAIN.
   (1) You must upload all the software components that follow in this sequence and one after the other:
  • AOC SOFTWARE software component (22TX)
  • Then, the AOC DATABASE software component (24TX).
NOTE: The loading time for a full disk is 40 minutes maximum.
     (a) Between each software upload procedure:
       1 On the PDL, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
       2 Disconnect the PDL.
       3 Connect the PDL again.
     (b) During the upload of the software component (24TX) customized:
       1 If you disconnect the PDL before the TRANSF COMPLETE or TRANSF FAILED indication comes into view:
         a You must upload again all the software in the ATSU (this is not applicable to FIN 20TX).
     (c) If software components 22TX and 24TX were uploaded before and if it is necessary to upload:
  • First, ATSU A/C INTERFACE software component (20TX)
  • Then, all the next ATSU software components.
   (2) Do the procedure in the table that follows:

1.In the avionics compartment, on the PDL:
  • Set the ON/OFF switch to ON.
On the PDL:
  • The < < MDDU READY > > indication comes into view.
2.On the PDL:
  • Put the disk into the disk drive.
On the PDL:
  • The READY indication comes into view.
  • Then, the WAIT RESPONSE indication comes into view.
  • Then, the < < TRANSF IN PROG > > indication comes into view.
NOTE: If more than one disk is necessary to do the upload, the EJECT DISK and INSERT NEXT DISK indications come into view one after the other. They tell the operator to put a new disk into the PDL.
NOTE: If more than one disk is necessary to do the upload and if a transfer fault occurs, the upload must be start from disk 1.
3.If a transfer fault occurs, wait for a minimum of three minutes:
  • After you set the ON/OFF switch on the PDL to OFF and
  • Before you start the upload of the software again.
Then, the ATSU can complete its power-on self-test.


On the upper ECAM DU:
  • The COM ACARS FAULT or DATALINK ATSU FAULT warning comes into view.

On the MCDU MENU page:
  • The ATSU prompt does not come into view.

On the PDL:
  • When the upload is completed, the TRANSF COMPLETE indication comes into view.
4.On the PDL:
  • Eject the disk from the disk drive.
  • Do the same operation from step 2 to step 4 for each set of disks that you must upload.

5.In the avionics compartment:
  • On the PDL, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
  • Disconnect the cable of the PDL from ATSU DATA LOADER connector 183VC.
  • Put the blanking cap on ATSU DATA LOADER connector 183VC.


On the upper ECAM DU:
  • The COM ACARS FAULT or DATALINK ATSU FAULT warning goes out of view after approximately one minute.
NOTE: When the PDL is disconnected, the ATSU does a power-on self-test. The COM ACARS FAULT or DATALINK ATSU FAULT warning goes out of view at the end of this test.

On the MCDU MENU page:
  • The ATSU prompt comes into view.
NOTE: If the ATSU router is not initialized, the ACARS STBY memo or the DATALINK ATSU FAULT + ATSU INIT FAULT warning comes into view on the upper ECAM DU.
