Replacement of the Packings of the Waste Drain Valve


WARNING: ALWAYS USE RUBBER GLOVES WHEN YOU DO WORK:
  • ON THE TOILET WASTE SYSTEM, OR
  • ON PARTS THAT HAVE CONTAMINATION FROM THE WASTE SYSTEM.
WHEN YOU COMPLETE THE WORK PROCEDURE, CLEAN YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER. THIS WILL PREVENT INFECTION (TOILET WASTE IS DANGEROUS FOR HEALTH).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE INSULATION DOES NOT STOP THE OPERATION OF THE VALVE.

3. Job Set-up

A. Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).

B. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position at the waste service panel 172AR.
   (2) Open the waste service panel 172AR.
   (3) Open the waste outlet cover.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Drain and flush the waste holding tank (Ref. AMM TASK 38-31-00-680-001).
   (2) Disinfect the Toilet System
     (a) Put 2 l (0.5283 USgal) of Deodorant-Aircraft Toilets - - (Material No.11GCA1) in each toilet bowl and flush them through.
   (3) Remove the drain hose which you used for for the draining procedure.
4. Procedure

A. Replacement of the Packings
   (1) Remove the packings (2) and (4) as follows:
     (a) Remove the packing (2) from the inner flap (1) and discard it.
     (b) Remove the packing (4) from the cap (3) and discard it.
     (c) Clean the inner flap (1) and the cap (3) with Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (2) Install the packings (2) and (4) as follows:
     (a) Apply a thin layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) on a new AIPC 38-31-72-01-160 PACKING (2) and install it on the inner flap (1).
     (b) Apply a thin layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.
03FAB1) on a new AIPC 38-31-72-01-090 PACKING (4) and install it on the cap (3).

B. Do this Leak Test
   (1) Make sure that the inner flap is closed.
   (2) Set the drain lever 3341MM to the DRAIN position.
   (3) Fill the waste tank with approximately 10 l (2.6417 USgal) of water.
   (4) Examine the inner flap and make sure there are no leaks.
   (5) Leaks are not permitted.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
