Installation of the Quantity Indicator

NOTE: You can use two persons to do this task. One person to work on the inner side of zone 170 and the other person to work on the outer side of zone 170.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 38-13-21-860-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ground service network is energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (2) Make sure that the aft cargo-compartment door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-003).
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
   (4) Make sure that CARGO COMPT LIGHT switch 8LU is set to ON.
   (5) Make sure that partition 161DW is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 25-55-12-000-001).
   (6) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
   (7) Make sure that potable-water service door 171AL is open.
   (8) Make sure that the potable water system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 38-10-00-614-002).

   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (2) Clean the retained components, the component interface and/or the adjacent area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.

C. Peparation for Installation
   (1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.

4. Procedure

A. Installation of the Quantity Indicator 6MA
F Quantity Indicator 6MA ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
   (1) Install and support the quantity indicator (2) in the hole in panel 171AL.
NOTE: Make sure that you can read the quantity indicator.
   (2) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) around the quantity indicator (2) inside zone 170.
   (3) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) around the plain portion of the screws (4) and (10).
   (4) Install the clamp (3) around the housing of the quantity indicator (2) inside zone 170 and install the screws (4) and (10) from outside of zone 170.
   (5) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) around the plain portion of the screws (9).
   (6) Install the seal (7) and the flange (8) over the quantity indicator (2).
   (7) Install the screws (9), the washers (6) and the nuts (5).
   (8) Apply a cap of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) over the nuts (5) and the washers (6).
   (9) Make the sealant smooth with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (10) Remove the unwanted sealant from the head of the screws (9).
   (11) Remove the blanking cap and connect the electrical connector (1) to the quantity indicator (2).

A. Installation of Quantity Indicator 6MA

   (1) Put the quantity indicator (2) in its correct installation position.
   (2) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the quantity indicator (2) from the inner side of zone 170.
   (3) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) on the plain part of the screws (3).
   (4) Hold the quantity indicator (2) and install the screws (3), the washers (4) and the nuts (5).
   (5) Tighten the nuts (5).
   (6) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the washers (4) and the nuts (5).
   (7) Make the sealant smooth with the SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (8) Remove the unwanted sealant from the head of the screws (3).
   (9) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (10) Connect the electrical connector (1) to the quantity indicator (2).

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close potable-water service door 171AL.
   (3) Install partition 161DW (Ref. AMM TASK 25-55-12-400-001).
   (4) Set CARGO COMPT LIGHT switch 8LU to OFF.
   (5) Remove the access platform(s).
   (6) Close the aft cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002) or (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-004).
