Local Disinfection of the Potable-Water System Components
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
WARNING:
ALWAYS WEAR RUBBER GLOVES, GOGGLES AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHES WHEN YOU DO THIS TASK.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE EQUIPMENT YOU USE FOR THIS PROCEDURE IS CLEAN AND APPROVED FOR THE POTABLE WATER SYSTEM. IF NOT IT CAN CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THE POTABLE WATER SYSTEM.
WARNING:
DO NOT DO WORK ON THE TOILET WASTE SYSTEM AND THE POTABLE WATER SYSTEM AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE POTABLE WATER SYSTEM. SUCH CONTAMINATION CAN BE DANGEROUS TO HEALTH.
WARNING:
BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON THE POTABLE WATER SYSTEM, PUT ON NEW GLOVES (LATEX OR NITRILE). THIS WILL PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE POTABLE WATER SYSTEM.
WARNING:
AFTER THE DISINFECTION PROCEDURE, REMOVE ALL USED PROTECTIVE PAPER AND/OR CLOTH RAGS AND DISCARD THEM IMMEDIATELY. TO KNOW HOW TO DO THIS SAFELY, REFER TO THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS.
IF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE SOLUTION DRIES ONTO ORGANIC MATERIALS SUCH AS PAPER OR CLOTH, THESE MATERIALS CAN SUDDENLY START TO BURN.

A. Local Disinfection of the Potable-Water System Components
(1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(2) If necessary, remove lubricants from the potable-water system connectors with a clean PAPER - TISSUE.
(5) If necessary, install O-rings/packings before the disinfection of the components.
(7) Make sure that the disinfection is satisfactory:
(b) Make sure that the disinfected components must not be dried before installation.
(8) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(b) Remove the remaining cleaning agent from the adjacent area.
5. Close-up(1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(2) If necessary, remove lubricants from the potable-water system connectors with a clean PAPER - TISSUE.
NOTE: The equipment which connects a component to a potable-water system interface is referred to as a potable-water system connector. The potable-water system connectors can be:
(3) Clean the potable-water system interfaces of the component and of the aircraft with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) . - sleeves
- flanges
- O-rings/packings.
NOTE: The potable-water system interfaces of the aircraft can be:
(4) Put the PAPER - MASKING on the surface(s) near the disinfected potable-water system components. - T-connectors
- mounting brackets
- potable water pipes
- potable water hoses.
(5) If necessary, install O-rings/packings before the disinfection of the components.
CAUTION:
DURING LOCAL DISINFECTION, DO NOT APPLY DISINFECTION SOLUTION TO THE CLAMPS. THE CLAMPS ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND ARE NOT FULLY RESISTANT TO THE DISINFECTION SOLUTION. IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
(6) Spray the Disinfectant-Potable Water System Hydrogen Peroxide - (Material No.11AKC1) onto the potable-water system interface(s) of the component and of the aircraft from a maximum distance of 100 mm (3.94 in.). NOTE: As an alternative material, the following disinfectants can be used:
- HERLISIL (966500), H Bio T50 (966400) or SANOSIL (966200). The concentration of H202 in these disinfectants must be decreased to 3%.
- A water mixed concentration of disinfectant. Approximately 70% Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol Reagent grade (Material No.08BBD2) mixed with 30% potable water.
(a) If necessary, spray the disinfectant solution onto the inner side of sleeves from a maximum distance of 100 mm (3.94 in.).
(7) Make sure that the disinfection is satisfactory:
WARNING:
AFTER YOU APPLY THE DISINFECTION SOLUTION, INSTALL THE COMPONENT BEFORE IT DRIES. AFTER THE DISINFECTION SOLUTION DRIES, CONTAMINATION CAN OCCUR AGAIN AND THIS CAN CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THE POTABLE WATER SYSTEM.
(a) Make sure that the disinfectant react with surfaces for 5 minutes minimum. (b) Make sure that the disinfected components must not be dried before installation.
(8) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(a) Remove and discard the PAPER - MASKING immediately after use. (b) Remove the remaining cleaning agent from the adjacent area.
