Removal of the Pylon Overheat Sensing-Elements


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
   (2) On AIR COND panel 30VU:
  • Make sure that the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch is released (OFF legend on).
  • Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (ON legend off).
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
   (3) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
  • Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
  • Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
  • Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (4) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
  • Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC system 1(2).
   (5) On FLAPS panel 114VU:
  • Put the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION in position on the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on the flap/slat control lever to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.
   (6) On the access door 191DB, on the HP ground connector:
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.

   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE at the pylon.
   (2) Remove these access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-52-11-000-807):

4. Procedure
Subtask 36-22-15-020-053-A
A. Removal of the Overheat Sensing Element
   (1) Removal of the lockwire
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the electrical connectors (4) and (11).
   (2) Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) and (11).
   (3) Remove the screws (6) and the washers (7).
   (4) Remove the support (9) that holds the sensing element (8).
   (5) Removal of the lockwire
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the nuts (5) and (10).
   (6) Remove the nuts (5) and (10).
   (7) Open the clamps (14)
CAUTION: DO NOT USE ELECTRICAL OR PNEUMATIC TOOLS TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE QUARTER-TURN FASTENER ON THE FIRE DETECTOR CLAMP. ONLY USE A MANUAL SCREWDRIVER. ELECTRICAL OR PNEUMATIC TOOLS WILL CAUSE THE FASTENER TO TURN TOO MUCH AND POSSIBLY TO BREAK.
     (a) Turn the quarter-turn fasteners (12) by one quarter of a turn and open the clamps (14).
   (8) Remove the sensing element (8).
NOTE: The grommets (13) are installed on the sensing element (8).
   (9) Remove the grommets (13) from the sensing element (8).
   (10) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.

B. Cleaning of the Outer Side of the Connectors
   (1) Remove all the collected oil, grease and dirt from the outer side of each connector. To do this, use a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) . Dry with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
