Removal of the Pylon Overheat Sensing-Elements

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

ALWAYS USE APPLICABLE GLOVES TO TOUCH HOT PARTS. HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

B. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(2) On AIR COND panel 30VU:
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
(5) On FLAPS panel 114VU:
Subtask 36-22-15-865-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(2) On AIR COND panel 30VU:
- Make sure that the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch is released (OFF legend on).
- Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (ON legend off).
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
(5) On FLAPS panel 114VU:
- Put the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION in position on the flap/slat control lever.
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on the flap/slat control lever to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.

D. Get Access
(1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the pylon.
(2) Remove these access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-52-11-000-805):

4. Procedure(1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the pylon.
(2) Remove these access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-52-11-000-805):
(a) FOR [6HF1] (SENSING ELEMENT-OVHT, L PYLON LOOP A), [106HF1] (SENSING ELEMENT-OVHT, L PYLON LOOP B)

A. Removal of the Overheat Sensing Element
(1) Removal of the lockwire
(2) Disconnect the electrical connectors (5) and (7).
(3) Remove the screws (3) and the washers (2) that attach the chimney (1) to the bulkhead.
(4) Remove the chimney (1).
(5) Remove the screw (11), the washer (10) and the nut (6).
(6) Remove the screws (13) and the washers (14).
(7) Remove the support (9) that holds the sensing element (12).
(8) Removal of the lockwire
(9) Remove the nuts (4) and (8).
(10) Loosen the bolts (15) and open the clamps (17).
(11) Remove the sensing element (12).
(13) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.

WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the electrical connectors (5) and (7). (2) Disconnect the electrical connectors (5) and (7).
(3) Remove the screws (3) and the washers (2) that attach the chimney (1) to the bulkhead.
(4) Remove the chimney (1).
(5) Remove the screw (11), the washer (10) and the nut (6).
(6) Remove the screws (13) and the washers (14).
(7) Remove the support (9) that holds the sensing element (12).
(8) Removal of the lockwire
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Cut and remove the lockwire from the nuts (4) and (8). (9) Remove the nuts (4) and (8).
(10) Loosen the bolts (15) and open the clamps (17).
(11) Remove the sensing element (12).
NOTE: The grommets (16) are installed on the sensing element (12).
(12) Remove the grommets (16) from the sensing element (12). (13) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
B. Cleaning of the Outer Side of the Connectors
(1) Remove all the collected oil, grease and dirt from the outer side of each connector. To do this, use a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) . Dry with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
