WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE OIL AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT AIR IS NOT SUPPLIED TO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM FROM THE MAIN ENGINE, THE APU OR A GROUND SOURCE. HOT COMPRESSED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM IS DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE YOU START WORK. PRESSURIZED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE COMPONENTS OF THE BLEED AIR SYSTEM ARE COOL. HOT COMPONENTS WILL BURN YOU.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE OVERHEAT DETECTOR ELEMENTS WHEN YOU DO THIS PROCEDURE. THE ELEMENTS ARE EASILY DAMAGED.
CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON OR NEAR THE AIR-CONDITIONING DUCTS. THE DUCTS ARE MADE OF THIN MATERIAL AND YOU CAN EASILY BREAK THEM.
1. Reason for the Job
To clean the connectors of contamination that can cause an OPEN fault message(s) on the OHDS loop(s).
Apply Dow Corning (DC4) to make the electrical insulation on the connector better. The operator makes the decision to use or not to use the Dow Corning (DC4).
NOTE: This procedure is not applicable if there is a gold plate installed on the OHDS connecting-cable pins. The first three digits of the part numbers for the OHDS gold-plated connectors are 114.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 36-22-00-941-059-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
   (2) On ENG panel 115VU:
  • Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (3) On AIR COND panel 30VU:
  • Make sure that the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch is released (OFF legend on).
  • Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (ON legend off).
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
   (4) On the HP ground connector:
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.
   (5) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
  • Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC system 1(2).

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) If it is necessary to clean the connector(s) installed in the wing(s) and/or the pylon(s), on FLAPS panel 114VU.
     (a) Extend the slats fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-004).
     (b) Put the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION in position on the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on the flap/slat control lever to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.

D. Disconnection for Cleaning
CAUTION: REMOVE OR INSTALL THE SENSING ELEMENTS CAREFULLY. DO NOT TWIST, BEND OR CAUSE KINKS IN THE SENSING ELEMENTS. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
   (1) Release a minimum of three clamps (2) adjacent to the connector that you clean before you disconnect the connector.
NOTE: Thus you will have sufficient space and prevent damage to the sensing element, connecting cable or interconnecting cable when you disconnect the connector from the fitting.
   (2) Loosen the fastener (3) and open the clamp (2).
   (3) Carefully remove the element from the clamp (2).
   (4) If necessary, remove and retain the rubber bushing (1).
   (5) Removal of the lockwire
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) At one end of the connector, cut, remove and discard the lockwire from the connector.
   (6) Disconnect the male connector (6) from the female connector (5).
   (7) Remove the locknut (4) from the fitting.
   (8) Disconnect the female connector (5) from the fitting.
   (9) Do steps (1) thru (8) again for the other end of the connector adjacent to the disconnected connector.
4. Procedure
Subtask 36-22-00-110-051-A
CAUTION: DO NOT USE CHEMICALS THAT CONTAIN CHLORIDES OR FREONS INSIDE THE CONNECTORS. CHLORIDES OR FREONS WILL CAUSE CORROSION OF THE CONNECTORS.
A. Cleaning
NOTE: It is necessary to clean the connectors of the connecting and interconnecting cables only, not the connectors of the sensing elements.
   (1) Apply Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol - (Material No.08BBD1) to the internal surface of the male connector (6) and female connector (5).
   (2) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to clean the male connector pin and use a 06-134724-000 TEST PIN to clean the female connector socket.
     (a) Make sure that you do not cause damage to the connectors when you clean them.
   (3) Dry the area.
WARNING: DO NOT POINT COMPRESSED GASES AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS. USE APPLICABLE EYE PROTECTION WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED GASES. COMPRESSED GASES CAN CAUSE INJURY TO THE EYES.
     (a) Dry the area with AIR SOURCE 2 BAR (30 PSI) - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY or NITROGEN COMPRESSED SOURCE 2 BAR (29 PSI) - DRY at a maximum pressure of 30 psi (2.07 bar).
   (4) Visually examine the connectors.
     (a) Make sure that the connectors are clean and that there are no unwanted materials.
  • If necessary, do the cleaning procedure again.
     (b) Examine the connectors for dents, chips or cracks.
     (c) Make sure that the pin of the male connector (6) is not broken.
     (d) Make sure that the white ceramic insert of the female connector (5) is not missing.
NOTE: During the opening of the connectors, the white ceramic insert can accidentally stay on the pin of the male connector (6).
  • If the white ceramic insert is missing or it stays on the pin of the male connector (6), discard and replace the connector.
     (e) Make sure that the pin is aligned in the center of the male connector (6).
  • If the pin is bent, discard and replace the connector.

B. Apply the Electrical Insulating Compound
NOTE: It is not mandatory to use electrical insulating compound after the cleaning.
   (1) If you do not apply the electrical insulating compound:
     (a) Go to Para. Close-up.
   (2) If you apply the electrical insulating compound:
     (a) Fill a SYRINGE with DOW CORNING 4 (Material No.355700) .
     (b) For the socket end of the female connector (5):
       1 Use the SYRINGE to put the compound into the shell and into the ceramic socket.
       2 Use the SYRINGE to put the compound between the barrel that has a thread and the ceramic socket.
       3 Apply the compound until it is flush with the connector sleeve.
     (c) For the pin end of the male connector (6):
       1 Use the SYRINGE to put the compound into the area around the pin.
       2 Apply the compound in this area until it is full.

A. Connection of the Connectors
CAUTION: REMOVE OR INSTALL THE SENSING ELEMENTS CAREFULLY. DO NOT TWIST, BEND OR CAUSE KINKS IN THE SENSING ELEMENTS. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
   (1) If removed, install the rubber bushings (1) of the elements and put them over the clamps.
   (2) Put the female connector (5) into its initial installation fitting.
   (3) Install the locknut (4) on the female connector (5) fitting.
   (4) TORQUE the locknut (4) to between 0.68 and 0.56 m.daN (60.18 and 49.56 lbf.in ) T.
   (5) Connect the male connector (6) to the female connector (5).
   (6) TORQUE the male connector (6) to to between 0.68 and 0.56 m.daN (60.18 and 49.56 lbf.in )

   (7) Installation of the lockwire
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Safety the connector(s) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (8) Close all the clamps (2) and lock the fasteners (3):
     (a) Make sure that you close and lock all the clamps (2) that you opened in the removal procedure.
     (b) Make sure that the slots in the rubber bushings (1) are opposite the fasteners (3).
   (9) Do the operational test of the OHDS (
Ref. AMM TASK 36-22-00-710-803).
     (a) Make sure that the test results do not show an OPEN or a SHORT fault message related to the cleaned loop.

   (2) If necessary, on FLAPS panel 114VU:
     (a) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
     (b) Remove the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION from the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-080-002).
     (c) Retract the slats fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).

D. Removal of the Equipment
   (1) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
   (2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
