Deactivation of the Pylon Overheat Sensing-Element

A. Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).

B. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that engine 1(2) shutdown occurred for a minimum of 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(2) In the cockpit, on AIR COND panel 30VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the OFF legend is on).
(b) Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
(c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
(3) In the cockpit, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position for a minimum of 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
(4) In the cockpit, on FLAPS panel 114VU:
(a) Put the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION in position on the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position on the flap/slat control lever to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.
(5) Open access door 191DB, on the HP ground connector:
(a) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.
(6) In the cockpit, on the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

D. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the pylon access.
(2) Remove these access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-002):

4. Procedure
Subtask 36-22-00-790-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Leak Check
(1) Do a leak check on the related pylon (Ref. AMM TASK 36-22-00-790-001) at the bleed air ducts. Make sure that there are no leaks, specially from the clamps and the connections.

If there is a leak, it will be a NO GO. Repair the bleed air duct.
If there is no leak, do the deactivation of the related sensing element (refer to Para. 4.B and 4.C).

B. Cleaning of the Outer Side of the Electrical Connectors
(1) Remove the collected oil, grease and dirt from the outer side of each connector.
(2) To do this, use a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) . Dry them with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .

C. Deactivation of the Pylon Overheat Sensing-Element

Pylon Overheat-Sensing-Element Electrical-Connectors ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

(1) FOR [1HF1] (SNSG ELEM-OVHT, ENG 1 PYLON), [1HF2] (SNSG ELEM-OVHT, ENG 2 PYLON)

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

(a) Cut, remove and discard the lockwires from the electrical connectors (1) and (2).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

(b) Disconnect the electrical connectors (1) and (2) from the sensing element.
(c) Put the CAP - BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and sensing-element connector ends.
(d) Put a plastic bag or a shrinkable sleeve on the connectors and safety it with a TIE WRAP ESPM 205451.

NOTE: The plastic bag or the shrinkable sleeve gives protection from humidity.

(e) Safe tie the electrical connectors with a TIE WRAP to the adjacent structure or the nearest cable in the upright position ESPM 205451.

(1) The pylon loop 1(2) message ENG 1(2) PYLON LOOP INOP must come into view.
(2) Make sure that the related ENG1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch stays released for the flight (the OFF legend is on).
(3) Make an entry in the logbook.

(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install these access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-400-002):

(6) Remove the access platform(s).
