A. Installation of the Fan Air Valve
   (1) If you use the APU to energize the electrical circuits, stop the APU:
   (2) In the cockpit, on the SD bleed page:
     (a) Make sure that the pressure and the temperature of the bleed-air duct system are in ambient conditions.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM IS DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE YOU START WORK. PRESSURIZED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE UNIT UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
CAUTION: USE A SECOND WRENCH TO APPLY COUNTERTORQUE TO THE UNION WHEN YOU DISCONNECT/CONNECT THE PNEUMATIC LINES ON UNIONS.
   (3) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (5) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (6) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (7) Remove the blanking plugs from the sense line ends, the valve (4) and the duct ends.
   (8) Install the valve (4) on the pneumatic duct (2). To do this put the control mechanism in position at the front.
NOTE: The arrow which shows the direction of the flow of air points up.
   (9) Make sure that the clamp (3) is clean and in the correct condition.
   (10) Install the clamp (3).
   (11) Make sure that the flanges are correctly aligned and with no unwanted stress.
   (12) Move the clamp (3) around the flanges and install the tee bolt (18) in the trunnion (17). Do not tighten at this time.
   (13) Turn the valve (4) to make sure that the sense line (14) and the electrical connector (1) are correctly connected.
   (14) Make sure that the clamp (5) is clean and in the correct condition.
   (15) Install the clamp (5).
   (16) Install the elbow (10).
   (17) Make sure that the flanges are correctly aligned and with no unwanted stress.
   (18) Move the clamp (5) around the flanges and install the tee bolt (18) in the trunnion (17) Do not tighten at this time.
   (19) Install the bolts (8) and (9) with the nuts (6) and (7) and tighten.
   (20) Do the steps that follow to connect the venting line (12) and the sense line (14):
     (a) Make sure that the venting line (12) and the sense line (14) and the unions (11) and (13) are serviceable.
1 Do the steps that follows if the union (13) is not serviceable:
a Remove the screw (22) from the union (13).
b Remove the union (13) and the packings (21) and (20) and discard them.
         c Install a new AIPC 36-11-54-01-020 PACKING (20) on the valve (4).
         d Put a new
AIPC 36-11-54-01-030 UNION (13) in position on the valve (4).
         e Install a new
AIPC 36-11-54-01-020 PACKING (21) on the union (13).
         f Install the screw (22).
         g TORQUE the screw (22) to between 0.8 and 0.65 m.daN (70.80 and 57.52 lbf.in )
T.
     (b) Remove the blanking plugs from the unions (11) and (13).
     (c) Clean the threads of the unions (11) and (13).
CAUTION: APPLY ONLY A THIN LAYER OF GREASE TO THE THREADS OF THE HOSE-ASSEMBLY COUPLING NUTS, AND REMOVE THE UNWANTED GREASE TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE HOSE ASSEMBLY. IF YOU USE TOO MUCH GREASE, IT CAN CAUSE CLOGGING OF THE HOSE ASSEMBLY OR DAMAGE TO THE RELATED COMPONENTS.
     (d) Apply a thin layer of Dry lubricant-General Assembly Molybdenum Disulfide & Silicone - (Material No.
03QBC1) or Lubricant-Anti Seize High Temp. - (Material No.03PBB1) to the threads of the unions (11) and (13).
     (e) Remove the blanking plugs from the venting line (12) and the sense line (14).
     (f) Connect the venting line (12) and the sense line (14) to the unions (11) and (13).
   (21) Do the steps that follow to TORQUE the venting line (12) and the sense line (14) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-12-911-001):
CAUTION: USE A SECOND WRENCH TO APPLY COUNTERTORQUE TO THE UNION WHEN YOU DISCONNECT/CONNECT THE PNEUMATIC LINES ON UNIONS.
     (a) TORQUE the venting line (12) and the sense line (14) to between 1.63 and 1.52 m.daN (12.02 and 11.21 lbf.ft ) T.
   (22) On the clamps (3) and (5) torque the self-locking nuts (16) to 50 % of the final torque value.
   (23) Make sure that the tee bolt (18) and the safety catch (19) are correctly installed.
   (24) Use a MALLET - PLASTIC to lightly tap on and around the top surface of the clamps (3) and (5).
   (25) TORQUE the clamps (3) and (5) to between 70 and 50 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.57 m.daN )
T.
   (26) Make sure that:
  • When locked, the safety catch (19) is fully over the stop of the clamp.
  • Make sure that non-threaded part of the tee bolt (18) engages in the trunnion (17) by more than four threads.
  • Make sure that the self-locking nut (16) is not fully tightened on the trunnion (17).
  • If there is one of the three conditions, discard the clamp.
   (27) Paint a red mark of 0.08 x 0.3 in. (2 x 8 mm) approx. to the self-locking nut and the trunnion or the tee bolt.
NOTE: The paint shows that the clamps or the couplings were correctly torqued. If necessary, remove the mark which was there before.
   (28) Connect the electrical connector (1).
Subtask 36-11-54-790-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Leak Test
   (1) Do the operational test to read the CURRENT STATUS of the engine bleed-air system (
Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-00-710-001) and make sure that the BIT 13 of the LABEL 067 (066) is at 0.
   (2) Remove the plug from the test port of the fan air valve.
   (3) Connect the 98L36103002000 TEST SET - ENGINE BLEED or equivalent to the test port of the fan air valve.
NOTE: For the test of the engine bleed-air system, Airbus recommends to use bleed test set P/N 98L36103002000 for more accuracy.
     (a) Supply a stable pressure of 20 psi (1.38 bar).
     (b) Make sure that there are no leaks at the connections between the fan air valve and the sense line.
NOTE: On some fan air valves, the banjo union that connects the sense line to the fan air valve has a calibrated hole. For these valves, when the system is pressurized, air can come out through this hole. This is a normal operation of the equipment and not a leak.
   (4) Disconnect the test set from the test port and install the plug on the test port.
