Leak Test of the Bleed-Pressure Regulator Valve with the Engine in Operation

TASK 36-11-52-790-010-A
Leak Test of the Bleed-Pressure Regulator Valve with the Engine in Operation

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR GROUND SAFETIES AND THE WHEEL CHOCKS ARE IN POSITION. MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT CAN BE DANGEROUS.
CAUTION: DO NOT MOTOR THE ENGINE WITH EITHER THE FAN COWLS OR THRUST REVERSER HALVE(S) OPEN WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 50 MPH (80 KM/H) OR MORE. OTHERWISE INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE FAN COWLS AND THRUST REVERSER HALVES ARE SECURELY HELD OPEN DURING MOTORING. MAKE SURE HOLD OPEN RODS ARE SERVICEABLE.

4. Procedure
Subtask 36-11-52-480-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for the Leak Test
   (1) There are two procedures to find the location of an air leak, at a pneumatic joint.
NOTE: Apply dry developer only on the connections of the removed pneumatic components. Do not apply dry developer on all the pneumatic components.
You can apply V06-032developer, dry around the pneumatic joints or you can install FOIL - ALUMINUM around the pneumatic joint locations.
Use the steps that follow to apply foil, aluminum to the pneumatic joint locations.
     (a) Wind the foil wrap around the joint one time.
     (b) Twist the seam of the foil wrap tight.
     (c) Make the foil wrap as tight as possible on the tube but do not rip the wrap.
     (d) Attach the foil wrap at the two sides of the pneumatic joint with lockwire (Material No.V02-147) .

E. Do this Test
   (1) On ECAM control panel 11VU, push the BLEED key:
     (a) On the lower ECAM DU, the BLEED page comes into view.
   (2) On the lower ECAM DU, on the BLEED page:
  • Make sure that the related bleed-pressure regulator valve is in the closed position.
   (3) Start the related engine with the automatic or manual start procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-043) or (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-047) and keep the engine RPM to idle.
   (4) On AIR COND panel 30VU:
     (a) Push the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton-switch (OFF legend goes off).
     (b) Push the PACK 1 and PACK 2 pushbutton switches (OFF legend goes off).
   (5) After 5 minutes, on the lower ECAM DU, on the BLEED page:
  • Make sure that the related bleed-pressure regulator valve is in the open position.
NOTE: The pressure that the engine supplies is equal to or more than 30 psi (2.0684 bar). For the reduced ground idle engines, Airbus recommends to increase the thrust to keep the pressure equal to or more than 30 psi (2.0684 bar).
   (6) Do the engine shutdown procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-018).

I. Make sure that there are no leaks at the junction between the bleed pressure regulator valve, the sense lines and the duct on the related engine.
NOTE: There is a leak when the foil installed on the duct breaks or when it is too hot.
There is a leak when the leak air removes the dry developer from the junction.
   (1) Remove the materials used to do the leak test.
