Deactivation of the Bleed Valve

TASK 36-11-00-040-803-A
Deactivation of the Bleed Valve

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM IS DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE YOU START WORK. PRESSURIZED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: YOU MUST NOT TOUCH HOT PARTS WITHOUT APPLICABLE GLOVES. HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE AN INJURY.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.

Subtask 36-11-00-040-098-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Deactivation of the Bleed Valve (4001HA)
CAUTION: CAREFULLY ALIGN THE LOCKING PIN WITH THE DEACTIVATING HOUSING ON THE VALVE. IF YOU ALIGN IT INCORRECTLY OR IF YOU TIGHTEN IT TOO MUCH, THE LOCKING PIN CAN REMAIN IN POSITION AND YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LOCKING PIN THREAD.
   (1) On the bleed valve (4001HA):
     (a) Make sure the manual override control is in the CLOSED position:
1 If necessary, use a WRENCH - HEXAGONAL to set the manual override control to the CLOSED position.
     (b) Use a WRENCH - HEXAGONAL to remove the locking pin from its storage port.
     (c) Install the locking pin as follows:
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE LOCKING PIN OR SAFETY SCREW OR SPECIAL SCREW OR KNURLED SCREW, YOU MUST APPLY NEVER-SEEZ REGULAR GRADE. IF YOU DO NOT APPLY IT, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MANUAL OVERRIDE CONTROL OF THE VALVE.
1 Apply NEVERSEEZ REGULAR GRADE (Material No.357500) or NEVER-SEEZ PURE NICKEL SPECIAL (Material No.357700) on the locking pin.
2 On the manual override control:
a Lock the override control with the locking pin.
       3 TORQUE the locking pin to between 0.5 and 0.4 m.daN (44.25 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
   (2) On the cockpit:
     (a) Put a PLACARD in the cockpit to tell the crew that the left (right) PRV is closed and deactivated.
Subtask 36-11-00-790-067-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Check of the Bleed Air Ducts
   (1) Get the post flight report (
Ref. AMM D/O 31-37-73-00).
     (a) If the class 1 fault message PRESS REG-V 4001HA1(2) and the ECAM warning AIR ENG 1(2) BLEED FAULT come into view during the flight phases 3, 4 or 5, get the ENG TAKE OFF REPORT on the MCDU and do a check of the pack values:
1 If the pack value is 00 or 01 (the pack was off during the last take off):
a Do the leak check of all the bleed air ducts and the pack components (Ref. AMM TASK 36-22-00-790-802).
b Do a visual inspection of the bleed air ducts and the equipment which are installed downstream of the Overpressure Valve (OPV) (along the pylon, wing and the center fuselage to the starter valves, flow control valves, wing anti-ice valves, HP ground connectors and the APU check valve but not the wing anti-ice ducting). Make sure that there is no deformation and be very careful when you do the check of the bellows.
  • If there is damage or deformation, repair or replace the damaged duct or equipment.
