Functional Test of the ATC/Mode S Transponder
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THIS TEST QUICKLY. IF THERE IS A RISK THAT MORE TIME WILL BE NECESSARY FOR THIS TEST, CONTACT THE NEAREST AIRPORT. THIS TEST CAN CAUSE INTERFERENCE WITH THE AIR TRAFFIC.
NOTE: The test results will be better if there are no buildings, vehicle or other aircraft in the area of the main antenna lobe (approximately 10 m (33 ft.)).

A. Obey the applicable safety precautions before flight configuration with electrical power (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001).
Subtask 34-52-00-860-094-A NOTE: It is necessary to do only once the flight configuration precautions with electrical power during the ATC/Mode S transponder functional test.
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(2) Do the ADIRS start procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 34-10-00-860-002).
(3) Enter a flight plan to get a flight number (Ref. AMM TASK 22-70-00-710-002).
Subtask 34-52-00-875-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(2) Do the ADIRS start procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 34-10-00-860-002).
(3) Enter a flight plan to get a flight number (Ref. AMM TASK 22-70-00-710-002).
NOTE: Use a company route stored in the NAV DATA BASE or enter the flight number "TEST" manually in the MCDU if it is not displayed.
(4) On the SWITCHING panel 8VU: - Make sure that the AIR DATA selector switch is set to NORM.

D. If possible, put the TEST UNIT - ATCRB, MODE S WITH ELS EHS FUNCTIONS and the user manual in the cockpit.
(2) Connect the test antenna to the test set.
(3) Put the test antenna in position in the line of sight of the ATC1 (2) bottom antenna only.
Subtask 34-52-00-480-054-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: You can do this test automatically if:
(1) Make sure that the test set is in correct condition. - You use a test set that has the automatic test function.
- You make sure that the automatic test procedure does a test of all the parameters given in this procedure.
(2) Connect the test antenna to the test set.
(3) Put the test antenna in position in the line of sight of the ATC1 (2) bottom antenna only.
D. If possible, put the TEST UNIT - ATCRB, MODE S WITH ELS EHS FUNCTIONS and the user manual in the cockpit.

(3) Put the test antenna in position in the line of sight of the ATC1 (2) bottom antenna only.
Subtask 34-52-00-860-095-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: You can do this test automatically if:
(1) Make sure that the test set is in correct condition. - You use a test set that has the automatic test function.
- You make sure that the automatic test procedure does a test of all the parameters given in this procedure.
(2) Connect the test antenna to the test set.
(3) Put the test antenna in position in the line of sight of the ATC1 (2) bottom antenna only.
NOTE: For the test of the ATC 2 function, you must use the TCAS antennas (not the ATC 2 antennas).

(1) On the center pedestal, on one Multipurpose Control & Display Unit (MCDU), get the LGCIU 1 (2) page and simulate a flight condition (Ref. AMM TASK 32-69-00-860-001).

- Push the line key adjacent to the NOSE+LH+RH FLIGHT indication.
NOTE: Simulation of flight automatically stops after a period of time (approx. 5 min.). When the aircraft goes back to ground configuration, the bottom antennas no longer transmit squitters.
(2) On the center pedestal, on the ATC/TCAS control unit: - Start the ATC system 1(2)
- Enter the ATC code 7776, or a different code given by your local authorities, to keep the traffic interference to a minimum
- Set the ALT RPTG/ON/OFF switch to ON
- Set the AUTO/ON/STBY switch to AUTO.
E. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) On the center pedestal, on one Multipurpose Control & Display Unit (MCDU), get the LGCIU 1 (2) page and simulate a flight condition (Ref. AMM TASK 32-69-00-860-001).

- Set the SBY/ON/TA/RA-TA switch to RA-TA.
(Before you get the subsequent page, set this switch to ON again).
