WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
  • GET MEDICAL AID.

CAUTION: AFTER THREE DAYS OF FLIGHT WITHOUT SEALANT, DO THE FULL INSTALLATION OF THE ANTENNA:
  • REMOVE THE ANTENNA
  • CLEAN THE FUSELAGE AND ANTENNA SURFACES AND REMOVE ALL SIGNS OF HUMIDITY.
IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, WATER CAN GO INTO THE STRUCTURE AND CORROSION CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: AFTER TEN DAYS OF FLIGHT WITH INTERPOSITION SEALANT OR A GEL/ SILICON GASKET, DO THESE STEPS:
  • CLEAN THE AREA AROUND THE ANTENNA, AND
  • APPLY A SEALANT BEAD AROUND THE ANTENNA AND/OR SEALANT ON THE HEADS OF THE SCREWS.
IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, WATER CAN GO INTO THE STRUCTURE AND CORROSION CAN OCCUR.
A. Aircraft Antenna Sealant-Exemption
Obey the indications given in the table that follows if it is not possible to:
  • Apply the sealant.
  • Let the sealant cure during the applicable curing time.

This table gives the time limits that are applicable for the sealant installation on the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Active antenna.
    These limits are adapted to:
  • The antenna installation configuration
  • The antenna location
  • The sensitive condition of the antenna to water infiltration
  • The available condition of the sealant.
Configuration of antenna installation
If the Airline has sealant but cannot wait until the sealant is cured
If the Airline has no sealant available
No sealant (Teflon gasket) between the antenna and the fuselage:
  • Sealing bead around the antenna
  • Synthetic fibre cord (Nylon) on the heads of the screws
  • Sealant on the heads of the screws
  • O-ring at the antenna connector level.

  • The installation of a sealing bead around the antenna is mandatory (no exemption possible because of the risk of water infiltration between the aircraft and the antenna).
  • It is permitted to fly for a maximum of ten days without the sealant on the head of the screws.
  • No exemption possible with the Teflon gasket because of the risk of water infiltration between the aircraft and the antenna.
  • It is permitted to fly for a maximum of three days without the sealant (sealing bead and sealant on the heads of the screws) if the O-ring is installed.
NOTE: When there is no sealing bead, there is a risk of aerodynamic noise.

B. Installation of the Top Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Antenna
WARNING: OBEY THE COLOR CODES WHEN YOU CONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS (THIS WILL PREVENT CROSS-CONNECTIONS). MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE ANTENNA IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION. IF THE ANTENNA DOES NOT POINT IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION, THE TCAS WILL ONLY SENSE TRAFFIC BEHIND THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION from the opening on the fuselage structure (1).
   (2) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) If you install the same antenna (6), clean it with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (a) Do a check of the groove below the preformed packing to make sure that there are no debris or unwanted materials.
     (b) Put the new AIPC 34-43-11-01-020 PREFORMED PACKING (4) in the correct position on the antenna (6).
   (5) If you install a new antenna (6), make sure that there is no adhesive label on the preformed packing.
     (a) If you remove an adhesive label, clean the area to remove the remaining adhesive as follows:
     (b) Do a check of the groove below the preformed packing to make sure that there are no debris or unwanted materials.
     (c) Align the new preformed packing with the groove at the bottom of the antenna. This is to make sure that it is in the correct position.
     (d) If the preformed packing has deformation, discard and replace it with a new AIPC 34-43-11-01-020 PREFORMED PACKING (4).
   (6) Install the foam washer (5).
   (7) Align the new
AIPC 34-43-11-01-010 TEFLON GASKET (3) with the screw holes.
   (8) Remove the TAPE - MASKING that attaches the coaxial cables to the aircraft structure.
   (9) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from the connectors of the coaxial cables (2) and from the connectors (9).
   (10) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (11) Connect each connector of the coaxial cables (2) to the related connectors (9) (refer to the color codes).
     (a) Connect connector J3 (BLUE) forward.
   (12) Install the lockwire:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Safety the connectors of the coaxial cables (2) and the connectors (9) with the corrosion-resistant-steel lockwire 0.4 mm (0.015 in.) dia.
   (13) Install the antenna (6) on the fuselage structure (1) with the washers (7) and the screws (8).
   (14) Install the washers (16) and the screws (17).
   (15) TORQUE the screws (8) and (17) to between 0.37 and 0.27 m.daN (32.74 and 23.89 lbf.in )
T.
   (16) Make sure that the bonding contact resistance between the antenna (6) and the fuselage structure (1) is not more than five milliohms (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (17) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the screw heads.
   (18) Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) around the antenna (6).
   (19) Let the sealant dry.
   (20) Apply the Coating_- Flexible Structure (Material No.04QAB2) or the Top Coat Polyurethane_- - External Structure (Material No.04JAA3) on the sealant around the antenna and the heads of the screws.
