CAUTION: AT OR BEFORE THE END OF THE APPLICABLE TIME LIMIT (3 OR 10 DAYS), IT IS NECESSARY TO DO THE FULL INSTALLATION:
  • REMOVE THE ANTENNA
  • CLEAN THE FUSELAGE AND ANTENNA SURFACES AND REMOVE ALL SIGNS OF HUMIDITY
  • INSTALL THE ANTENNA WITH FULL INSTALLATION OF THE SEALANT.
IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THERE IS A RISK OF WATER INFILTRATION AND CORROSION.
A. Aircraft antenna sealant-exemption
The table that follows gives the time limits for sealant installation for each radio-navigation, surveillance and communication antenna.
These limits are adapted to:
  • Antenna installation configuration
  • Antenna location
  • Antenna sensitivity to water infiltration
  • Sealant availability
   (1) Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
Configuration of antenna installation
If the Airline has sealant but does not want to wait until the sealant is cured
If the Airline has no sealant available
No sealant between the antenna and the fuselage
  • Sealing bead around the antenna
  • Sealant on the heads of the screws
  • O-ring at the antenna connector level

  • Authorization to fly up to 3 days without sealant (sealing bead + sealant on the heads of the screws) if the O-ring is installed.

  • Authorization to fly up to 3 days without sealant (sealing bead + sealant on the heads of the screws) if the O-ring is installed.
Sealant between the antenna and the fuselage (interposition sealant)
  • Sealing bead around the antenna
  • Sealant on the heads of the screws
  • O-ring at the antenna connector level
  • Authorization to fly up to 10 days without sealing bead around the antenna if the interposition sealant was applied and the O-ring installed.

  • Authorization to fly up to 10 days without sealant on the heads of the screws.

  • Authorization to fly up to 3 days without sealant (interposition sealant + sealing bead + sealant on the heads of the screws) if the O-ring is installed.

   (1) Remove the used sealant from the fuselage structure (3) with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
   (2) Clean the mating surfaces with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
     (a) On the antenna (1), make sure that there is no paint, sealant or corrosion in the recesses of the attachment screw heads.
   (4) Prepare the surface of the bonding point(s)
(Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-803).
NOTE: You will subsequently do the electrical bonding of the antenna (1) at the attachment screws (2).
   (5) Make sure that the O-ring (5) is in good condition.
     (a) If the O-ring is not in good condition, discard it and install the new AIPC 34-36-16-01-010 O-RING (5).
   (6) Install the O-ring (5) in the correct position on the antenna (1).
   (7) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (8) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (9) Connect the coaxial connector (4) to the connector of the antenna (1).
   (10) Put the antenna (1) in position and install the screws (2).
   (11) Tighten the screws (2) in a diagonal sequence.
   (12) Do the electrical resistance measurement and the final protection of the bonding point(s)
(
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (a) Make sure that the bonding contact resistance between the antenna (1) and the fuselage structure (3) is not more than 5 milliohms (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (13) Make a sealing bead with the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) or the Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) around the antenna (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 51-76-11-300-001).
   (14) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) or the Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) on the heads of the screws (2).
   (15) Make the contour of the sealant on the screws (2) and around the antenna (1) smooth.
   (16) Let the sealant cure.
   (17) Apply the Coating_- Flexible Structure (Material No.04QAB2) on the sealant around the bottom of the antenna (1).
   (18) Apply the Varnish-- Electrical Bonding Structure (Material No.04TMB2) on the sealant on the heads of the screws (2).
