WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
CAUTION: IF YOU MUST MOVE THE TOOL IN THE AIRCRAFT, BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE PEEL SHIMS OF THE SUPPORTS OF THE ADIRU MOUNT.
A. Heading Check
   (1) Assemble the tool in the aircraft avionics compartment.
NOTE: The assembled tool is too large to go through the access door of the zone.
   (2) Installation of the 98D34103000000 ALIGNMENT,TOOL-IRU PLATFORM BRACKETS
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (3).
     (b) Remove the nuts (4) and the washers (5).
     (c) Remove and install the three screws (7) in the reverse direction one by one, to always have a minimum of three screws installed.
NOTE: The three screws prevent the bearing rotation.
     (d) Remove the screw (8) that cannot be installed in the reverse direction.
     (e) If you cannot remove or install one screw (7) or (8) because of the load on the NLG:
NOTE: The shock absorber must not be compressed.
     (f) Remove the flanges (9), the packings (6) and (10) and discard the packings.
     (g) Install the support shafts (11) on the pintles (1) of the NLG.

     (i) Install the new AIPC 32-21-01-01-010 COTTER PINS (3) or AIPC 32-21-81-01-060 COTTER PINS (3).
     (j) Assemble the three parts of the tool (14) with the bolts (12). Make sure that they are installed on the correct side.
NOTE: The left and right parts of the tool are not interchangeable.
     (k) Install the tool (14) on the support shafts (11). To do this:
  • Tilt the top of the tool (14) forward to engage it in the support shafts (11).
  • Let the tool (14) turn down until it touches the surfaces of the ADIRU mount support.
     (l) Install the shim (16) between the tool (14) and the right support shaft (11) to prevent movement in the Y-axis (Roll) direction.
     (m) Install and tighten the knurled nuts (15) on each support shaft (11).
   (3) Heading Check
     (a) Manually push the four pins (13) into the inspection bushes of the tool (14). The pins (13) must go easily in the attachment holes of the ADIRU mount support.
NOTE: If it is not easy to manually push the four pins (13) into the attachment holes for the ADIRU mount support, there is a heading angle mismatch.
For more information, you can speak to the Airbus Customer Service.

     (a) Remove the unwanted thickness from the peel shims (2):
Tolerance for X (pitch) = +/-5'30" (+/-0.09°)
Tolerance for Y (roll) = +/-3'.30" (+/-0.06°).
   (7) Turn the tool (1) 180 degrees until its right angle is at position 4.
   (8) Adjust the assembly until it is horizontal. To do this:
     (a) Remove the unwanted thickness from the peel shims (2).
   (9) Make sure that the assembly is horizontal. If not, go back to Step (2).
