WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
CAUTION:
IF YOU MUST MOVE THE TOOL IN THE AIRCRAFT, BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE PEEL SHIMS OF THE SUPPORTS OF THE ADIRU MOUNT.
A. Heading Check (1) Assemble the tool in the aircraft avionics compartment.
NOTE: The assembled tool is too large to go through the access door of the zone.
(2) Installation of the 98D34103000000 ALIGNMENT,TOOL-IRU PLATFORM BRACKETS(a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (3).
(b) Remove the nuts (4) and the washers (5).
(c) Remove and install the three screws (7) in the reverse direction one by one, to always have a minimum of three screws installed.
NOTE: The three screws prevent the bearing rotation.
(d) Remove the screw (8) that cannot be installed in the reverse direction. (e) If you cannot remove or install one screw (7) or (8) because of the load on the NLG:
- Lightly release the NLG with the hydraulic jack (Ref. AMM TASK 07-12-00-582-001) and try again.
NOTE: The shock absorber must not be compressed.
(f) Remove the flanges (9), the packings (6) and (10) and discard the packings. (g) Install the support shafts (11) on the pintles (1) of the NLG.
(h) Install the washers (5) and the nuts (4).
(i) Install the new AIPC 32-21-01-01-010 COTTER PINS (3) or AIPC 32-21-81-01-060 COTTER PINS (3).
(j) Assemble the three parts of the tool (14) with the bolts (12). Make sure that they are installed on the correct side.
NOTE: The left and right parts of the tool are not interchangeable.
(k) Install the tool (14) on the support shafts (11). To do this: - Tilt the top of the tool (14) forward to engage it in the support shafts (11).
- Let the tool (14) turn down until it touches the surfaces of the ADIRU mount support.
(m) Install and tighten the knurled nuts (15) on each support shaft (11).
(3) Heading Check
(a) Manually push the four pins (13) into the inspection bushes of the tool (14). The pins (13) must go easily in the attachment holes of the ADIRU mount support.
NOTE: If it is not easy to manually push the four pins (13) into the attachment holes for the ADIRU mount support, there is a heading angle mismatch.
For more information, you can speak to the Airbus Customer Service.
(4) Removal of the 98D34103000000 ALIGNMENT,TOOL-IRU PLATFORM BRACKETSFor more information, you can speak to the Airbus Customer Service.

C. Heading Check NOTE: Two persons are recommended to make the installation of the tool easier. One person in the NLG area and the other inside the avionics compartment.
(1) Assemble the tool in the aircraft avionics compartment. NOTE: The assembled tool is too large to go through the access door of the zone.
(2) Install the 98D34103008000 RIGGING TOOL FOR ADIRU RACK or the 98D34103008001 RIGGING TOOL ADIRU RACK:(a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (10).
(b) Remove the nuts (9) and the washers (8).
(c) Remove the four bolts (4) and install the new bolts (7) in the opposite direction. Install one new bolt (7) each time you remove one of the four bolts (4). This is to make sure that you always have a minimum of three bolts installed and the bearing will not turn.
(d) If you cannot remove one bolt (4) or install one bolt (7) because of the load on the NLG:
1 Lightly release the load on the NLG with the hydraulic jack (Ref. AMM TASK 07-12-00-582-001) and try again.
NOTE: The shock absorber must not be compressed.
(e) Remove the flanges (3), the packings (5) and (6) and discard the packings. (f) Install the support shafts (16) on the pintles (1) of the NLG.
(g) Install the washers (17) and the nuts (18).
(h) Assemble the tool (13) and the arms (15) and (12) with the bolts (11). Make sure that the arms are installed on the correct side.
NOTE: The left and right arms of the tool are not interchangeable.
(i) Install the tool (13) on the support shafts (16) as follows: 1 Tilt the top of the tool (13) forward to engage it in the support shafts (16).
2 Let the tool (13) turn down until it touches the surfaces of the Air Data/Inertial Reference Unit (ADIRU) mount support.
(j) Install the shim (19) between the right arm (12) and the right support shaft (16) to prevent movement in the Y-axis (roll) direction.
(k) Install and tighten the knurled nuts (20) on each support shaft (16).
(3) Do a check of the heading:
(a) Manually push the four pins (14) into the inspection bushes of the tool (13). The pins (14) must engage easily in the attachment holes of the ADIRU mount support.
NOTE: If it is not easy to manually push the four pins (14) into the attachment holes of the ADIRU mount support, the heading angle is incorrect.
