Installation of the Nose-Wheel Steering Servo-Control


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-51-51-860-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Green hydraulic system is depressurized and put it in the maintenance configuration.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001)
   (2) Make sure that the reservoir of the Green hydraulic system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) In the cockpit, on the panel 400VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
   (4) On the steering handwheels (CAPT and F/0) and on the brake pedals, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate them.
   (5) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Green hydraulic system:
  • on the panel 40VU in the cockpit,
  • on the ground service panel of the Green hydraulic system, access door (197CB).
   (6) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (7) Make sure that the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) is in position below the servo-control.
Subtask 32-51-51-860-053-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized and put it in the maintenance configuration.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001)
   (2) Make sure that the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) In the cockpit, on the panel 400VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
   (4) On the steering handwheels (CAPT and F/0) and on the brake pedals, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate them.
   (5) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Yellow hydraulic system:
  • on the panel 40VU in the cockpit,
  • on the ground service panel of the Yellow hydraulic system, access door (196BB)
   (6) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (7) Make sure that the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) is in position below the servo-control.

B. Make sure that this(these) circuit breaker(s) is(are) open, safetied and tagged:

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-51-51-110-050-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Clean the attachment hardware with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry them with filtered compressed air.
   (3) Apply a light coat of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of all the screws.

B. Installation of the Servo-Control
   (1) Put the servo-control (6) in position with the screws (10).
   (2) TORQUE the screws (10) to between 0.9 and 0.8 m.daN (79.65 and 70.80 lbf.in ) T.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (3) Safety the screws (10) with lockwire corrosion resistant steel 0.8 mm (0.03 in).
   (4) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU CONNECT THE HYDRAULIC LINES CORRECTLY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
   (5) Refer to the marks made during the removal to find the correct installation position of the hydraulic lines and:
  • Connect the hydraulic couplings (1), (5), (11), (12) to the servo-control (6).
     (a) TORQUE the hydraulic lines (1), (5), (11) and (12) to between 3.1 and 2.5 m.daN (22.86 and 18.44 lbf.ft )
T.
     (b) Identify the tightened union nuts with a red line
(
Ref. AMM TASK 20-23-22-910-001).
   (6) Make sure that the heat shrink sleeve (2) is not damaged.
     (a) If heat shrink sleeve (2) is damaged:
       1 Remove and discard the heat shrink sleeve (2) and the identification band (3).
       2 Install the new AIPC 32-21-43-42-010 HEAT SHRINK SLEEVE (2) or AIPC 32-21-43-03-140 HEAT SHRINK SLEEVE (2).
       3 Connect the electrical connector (4) to the servo-control (6).
       4 Apply heat to the shrinkable part of the heat shrink sleeve (2). Make sure that you do not cause damaged to the cover of the 6GCA connector.
       5 Install the new
AIPC 32-21-43-42-040 IDENTIFICATION BAND (3).
     (b) If heat shrink sleeve (2) is not damaged:
       1 Connect the electrical connector (4) to the servo-control 6GC (6).
       2 Fold the end of the heat shrink sleeve (2) back on the connector (4) to fully protect it.

C. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

D. Functional Test
   (1) Do the functional test of the nose wheel steering with the handwheel (
Ref. AMM TASK 32-51-00-720-003) or (Ref. AMM TASK 32-51-00-720-004).
     (a) Fully turn the handwheel (75 degrees) to the left and to the right for a minimum of five times.
   (2) Do a check of the fluid level in the applicable hydraulic reservoir (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-210-001).
5. Close-up
Subtask 32-51-51-860-054-A
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Remove the container.
   (2) Remove the safety barriers.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
