Installation of the Tachometer


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FLIGHT CONTROL SAFETY-LOCKS AND THE WARNING NOTICES ARE IN POSITION.

3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the ground safety locks are installed on the landing gear.
   (3) On the panel 400VU:
  • make sure that the landing-gear control-lever 6GA is in the DOWN position
  • make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the applicable brake fan assembly is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 32-48-51-000-005).

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-42-57-420-059-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
F Anti-Skid Tachometer ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Apply a thin layer of Grease-Thread Anti-seize Graphited and Petrolatum - (Material No.03LBB1) to the splines (18) and to the screws (10), (12) and (14).
   (5) Put the electrical cables in the correct positions. Make sure that there are no kinks in the electrical cables.
   (6) Lightly lubricate the first 100 mm (3.94 in.) of the internal surface of the axle with Mineral Oil base Grease-General Purpose Medium Temp. - (Material No.03FBB1) .

B. Installation of the Tachometer
F Anti-Skid Tachometer ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Make sure the coupling attached to the drive (9) is in the correct condition.
   (2) Attach the drive (9) to the tachometer (7) with the screws (10) and the nuts (8).
   (3) TORQUE the screws (10) and the nuts (8) to between 0.187 and 0.153 m.daN (16.55 and 13.54 lbf.in ) T.
   (4) Put the tachometer (7) and the drive (9) together in position on the mounting sleeve (11). Install the washers (13) and the screws (14).
   (5) TORQUE the screws (14) to between 0.25 and 0.2 m.daN (22.12 and 17.70 lbf.in )
T.
   (6) Carefully pull the electrical connectors (20) and connectors of tachometer from the axle.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU CONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TO THE TACHOMETER:
  • TURN THE CONNECTOR COUPLING RING UNTIL YOU HEAR A CLICK SOUND
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE RED MARKS ON THE TIPS OF THE CONNECTOR BAYONET
ARE VISIBLE THROUGH THE INSPECTION HOLES IN THE COUPLING RING. AN INCORRECTLY ENGAGED CONNECTOR CAN CAUSE ECAM WARNINGS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS.
   (7) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (8) Install the connector (20) on the mounting sleeve (11) with the circlip (19), the spring (21), the washer (22) and the circlip (23).
NOTE: The cable kit from harness 2M contains the circlips (19) and (23), the spring (21) and the washer (22).
   (9) Connect the connectors in the axle (5) to the tachometer (7). Make sure that the electrical cables do not twist.
   (10) Carefully install the mounting sleeve (11) in the axle without force. Align the holes in the mounting sleeve (11) with the holes in the axle (5) and the slots in the nut (6).
   (11) If the mounting sleeve (11) does not install easily, make sure that the electrical cables are in the correct positions.
   (12) Install the screws (12) with the heads on the internal surface of the axle, in the mounting sleeve (11).
   (13) Install the washers (1) and the nuts (2).
   (14) TORQUE the nuts (2) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in )
T.
   (15) Safety the nuts (2) with the the new
AIPC 32-11-13-01-200 COTTER PINS (3).

D. Preparation for Installation

  • The screws (4) and (7)
  • The splines of the tachometer drive (3)
  • The debris guard adaptor.
   (5) Put the electrical cables in the correct positions. Make sure that there are no kinks in the electrical cables.

E. Installation of the Tachometer
F Anti-skid Tachometer ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Make sure the coupling attached to the drive (3) is in the correct condition.
   (2) Attach the drive (3) to the tachometer (1) with the screws (4) and the nuts (2).
   (3) TORQUE the screws (4) and the nuts (2) to between 0.187 and 0.153 m.daN (16.55 and 13.54 lbf.in ) T.
   (4) Put the tachometer (1) and the drive (3) together in position on the mounting sleeve (5).
   (5) Install the washers (6) and the screws (7).
   (6) TORQUE the screws (7) to between 0.25 and 0.20 m.daN (22.12 and 17.70 lbf.in )

H. Test
   (1) Do the functional test of the tachometer (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-00-720-002) or (Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-00-720-003).

I. BITE Test
   (1) Do a BITE test of the EFCS:
     (a) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
     (b) Set the related SEC(s).
       1 FOR [19GG] (TACHOMETER-WHEEL 1), [22GG] (TACHOMETER-WHEEL 4)
         a On overhead panel 24VU:
  • Release FLT CTL SEC 2 pushbutton switch, then push it in.
  • Release FLT CTL SEC 3 pushbutton switch, then push it in.
       2 FOR [20GG] (TACHOMETER-WHEEL 3), [21GG] (TACHOMETER-WHEEL 2)
         a On overhead panel 23VU:
  • Release FLT CTL SEC 1 pushbutton switch, then push it in.
     (c) Do the BITE test of the EFCS computers (Ref. AMM TASK 27-96-00-740-001).
     (d) Make sure that the MCDU shows no maintenance message related to the tachometer.
     (e) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
5. Close-up

A. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the SAFETY BARRIER(S).
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
