3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-31-73-941-056-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the ground safety locks are on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (3) On panel 400VU:
  • Make sure that the landing-gear control-lever 6GA is in the DOWN position
  • Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
   (4) On panel 110VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is on the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below the applicable zone 734 or 744.
   (2) Make sure that the applicable MLG door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
   (3) Make sure that the GROUND LOCK SLEEVE is on the applicable MLG door actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-002).

   (1) If you did not de-energize the aircraft electrical circuits, make sure that the flight configuration precautions are done (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001).

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-31-73-420-068-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Examine the mountings for the proximity-sensors on the MLG uplock and door uplock. Make sure that they are in the correct condition.
   (4) Make sure that the applicable bonded shims/spacers are in the correct condition and are not loose.

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
B. Installation of the Proximity Sensor
NOTE: It is permitted to install a sensor target without a shim if the correct clearance can be set without the shim.
   (1) Install MLG uplock proximity-sensors 9GA (8GA) and 11GA (10GA) as follows:
     (a) Attach the bracket (3) to the applicable proximity sensor (4) with the capscrews (8), the washers (7) and the nuts (5).
     (b) Install the shim (17), the bracket (3) and the proximity sensor (4) to the MLG uplock with the capscrews (1) and the washers (2).
     (c) Make sure that the shim (17), the bracket (3) and the proximity sensor (4) are in the positions identified before removal.
     (d) TORQUE the capscrews (8) and (1) to between 0.57 and 0.51 m.daN (50.44 and 45.13 lbf.in ) T.
     (e) Safety the capscrews (1) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
     (f) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (g) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (6) to the applicable proximity sensor (4).
   (2) Install MLG door-uplock proximity-sensors 27GA (26GA) and 29GA (28GA) as follows:
     (a) Attach the bracket (10) to the applicable proximity sensor (9) with the capscrews (13), the washers (14) and the nuts (16).
     (b) Install the shim (18), the bracket (10) and the proximity sensor (9) to the door uplock with the capscrews (12) and the washers (11).
     (c) Make sure that the shim (18), the bracket (10) and the proximity sensor (9) are in the positions identified before removal.
     (d) TORQUE the capscrews (13) and (12) to between 0.57 and 0.51 m.daN (50.44 and 45.13 lbf.in ) T.
     (e) Safety the capscrews (12) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
     (f) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (g) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (15) to the applicable proximity sensor (9).
   (3) Install MLG downlock proximity-sensors 15GA (14GA) as follows:
     (a) Install the proximity sensor (37) on the lockstay with the capscrews (36).
     (b) If you removed the target (31) during the removal procedure, do the steps that follow:
       1 Put the spacer (32) if applicable, and the target (31) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the capscrews (30), the washers (35) and the nuts (34).
     (c) Make sure that the target (31), the proximity sensor (37) and the spacer (32) if applicable, are in the positions identified before removal.
     (d) TORQUE the capscrews (36) and if necessary, the capscrews (30) to between 0.192 and 0.124 m.daN (16.99 and 10.97 lbf.in ) T.
     (e) Safety the capscrews (36) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
     (f) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (g) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (29) to the applicable proximity sensor (37).
   (4) Install MLG downlock proximity-sensors 17GA (16GA) as follows:
     (a) Install the proximity sensor (55) on the sensor mounting bracket with the capscrews (59), the washers (56) and the nuts (57).
     (b) If you removed the target (51) during the removal procedure, do the steps that follow:
       1 Put the target spacer (52) if applicable, and the target (51) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the capscrews (50), the washers (53) and the nuts (54).
     (c) Make sure that the proximity sensor (55), the target (51) and the spacer (52) if applicable, are in the positions identified before removal.
     (d) TORQUE the nuts (57) and if necessary, the nuts (54) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
     (e) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (f) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (g) Connect the electrical connector (60) to the applicable proximity sensor (55).
   (5) Install MLG extension proximity-sensors 21GA (20GA) as follows:
     (a) Install the spacer if applicable (72) and the proximity sensor (73) on the sensor mounting bracket with:
  • The capscrews (71)
  • The washers (74)
  • The nuts (75).
     (b) If you removed the target (78) during the removal procedure, do the steps that follow:
       1 Put the spacer (79) if applicable, and the target (78) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the capscrews (77), the washers (80) and the nuts (81).
     (c) Make sure that these items are in the positions identified before removal:
  • The target (78)
  • The proximity sensor (73)
  • The spacers (79) and (72) if applicable.
     (d) TORQUE the nuts (75) and if necessary, the nuts (81) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
     (e) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (f) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (g) Connect the electrical connector (76) to the applicable proximity sensor (73).
   (6) Install MLG extension proximity-sensors 23GA (22GA) as follows:
     (a) Install the spacer (90) if applicable and the proximity sensor (99) on the sensor mounting bracket with:
       1 The capscrews (91)
       2 The washers (98)
       3 The nuts (97).
     (b) If you removed the target (92) during the removal procedure, do the steps that follow:
       1 Put the spacer (94) if applicable, and the target (92) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the capscrews (93), the washers (95) and the nuts (96).
     (c) Make sure that these items are in the positions identified before removal:
  • The target (92)
  • The proximity sensor (99)
  • The spacers (94) and (90).
     (d) TORQUE the nuts (97) and, if necessary, the nuts (96) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
     (e) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (f) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (g) Connect the electrical connector (100) to the applicable proximity sensor (99).
   (7) Install MLG door-open proximity-sensors 33GA (32GA) and 35GA (34GA) as follows:
F MLG Door-Open Proximity-Sensors ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Put the spacer (115) if applicable, and the proximity sensor (114) in position on the sensor mounting bracket.
     (b) Install the screws (113), the washers (104) and the nuts (103).
     (c) If you removed the target (108) during the removal procedure, do the steps that follow:
       1 Install the spacer (109) if applicable, and the target (108) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the screws (107), the washers (112) and the nuts (111).
     (d) Make sure that the target (108), the proximity sensor (114) and the spacer (109) if applicable, are in the positions identified before removal.
     (e) TORQUE the nuts (103) and if necessary, the nuts (111) to between 0.192 and 0.124 m.daN (16.99 and 10.97 lbf.in ) T.
     (f) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (g) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (106) to the applicable proximity sensor (114).
   (8) For MLG uplock proximity-sensors 9GA (8GA) and 11GA (10GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.
06AAC5) or Coating_- Flexible Structure (Material No.04QAB2) to:
  • The capscrews (1) and (8)
  • The washers (2) and (7)
  • The nuts (5).
   (9) For MLG door-uplock proximity-sensors 27GA (26GA) and 29GA (28GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The heads and tails of the capscrews (12) and (13)
  • The nuts (16).
  • The washers (11) and (14).
   (10) For MLG downlock proximity-sensor 15GA (14GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The capscrews (36) and (30)
  • The nuts (34).
   (11) For MLG downlock proximity-sensor 17GA (16GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The capscrews (50) and (59)
  • The nuts (54) and (57).
   (12) For MLG extension proximity-sensors 21GA (20GA) and 23GA (22GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The capscrews (71), (77), (91) and (93)
  • The nuts (75), (81), (96) and (97).
   (13) For MLG door-open proximity-sensors 33GA (32GA) and 35GA (34GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:

B. Installation of the Proximity Sensors
NOTE: It is permitted to install a sensor target without a shim if you can set the correct clearance without the shim.
   (1) Install MLG uplock proximity-sensors 9GA (8GA) and 11GA (10GA) as follows:
     (a) Attach the bracket (3) to the applicable proximity sensor (4) with the washers (9), the cap screws (10) and the nuts (6).
     (b) Put the shim (5), the bracket (3) and the applicable proximity sensor (4) in position on the MLG uplock.
     (c) Install the washers (2) and the cap screws (1).
     (d) Make sure that the items that follow are in the same position identified in the removal procedure:
  • The shim (5)
  • The bracket (3)
  • The applicable MLG uplock proximity-sensor (4).
     (e) TORQUE the cap screws (1) and (10) to between 0.57 and 0.51 m.daN (50.44 and 45.13 lbf.in ) T.
     (f) Safety the cap screws (1) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
     (g) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (h) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (i) For MLG uplock proximity-sensor 9GA (8GA):
       1 Connect the electrical connector (7) to the proximity sensor (4).
     (j) For MLG uplock proximity-sensor 11GA (10GA):
       1 Connect the electrical connector (8) to the proximity sensor (4).
   (2) Install MLG door-uplock proximity-sensors 27GA (26GA) and 29GA (28GA) as follows:
     (a) Install the proximity sensor (11) as follows:
       1 Put the proximity sensor (11) in position on the switch bracket (17).
       2 Install the washers (16), the cap screws (15) and the nuts (23).
       3 TORQUE the cap screws (15) to between 5.33 and 4.83 m.N (47.17 and 42.74 lbf.in ) T.
       4 Put the items that follow on the MLG door uplock in the same position identified in the removal procedure:
  • The switch bracket (17)
  • The proximity sensor (11)
  • The shim (12).
       5 Install the washers (13) and the cap screws (14).
       6 TORQUE the cap screws (14) to between 5.65 and 5.08 m.N (50.0 and 45.0 lbf.in )
T.
     (b) Install the proximity sensor (27) as follows:
       1 Put the proximity sensor (27) in position on the switch bracket (34).
       2 Install the washers (35), the cap screws (36) and the nuts (28).
       3 TORQUE the cap screws (36) to between 5.33 and 4.83 m.N (47.17 and 42.74 lbf.in )
T.
       4 Put the items that follow on the MLG door uplock in the same position identified in the removal procedure:
  • The switch bracket (34)
  • The proximity sensor (27)
  • The shim (26).
       5 Install the washers (25) and the cap screws (24).
       6 TORQUE the cap screws (24) to between 5.65 and 5.08 m.N (50.0 and 45.0 lbf.in )
T.
     (c) Put the shim(s) (39) in position between the switch brackets (17) and (34).
     (d) Install the cap screw (40), the washer (38) and the nut (37).
     (e) TORQUE the nut (37) to between 5.33 and 4.83 m.N (47.17 and 42.74 lbf.in )
T.
     (f) Connect the electrical connector (20) to the proximity sensor (11) as follows:
       1 Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
       2 Make sure that the electrical connector (20) is clean and in the correct condition.
       3 Before you connect the electrical connector (20) to the proximity sensor (11):
  • Put tape on the surface of the switch bracket (17) near the electrical connector (20) to prevent scratching the bracket.
       4 Connect the electrical connector (20) to the proximity sensor (11).
       5 Remove tape from the surface of the switch bracket (17).
       6 Put the clamp blocks (18) in position and install the cap screws (19), the washers (21) and the nuts (22). Do not tighten the nuts (22) at this step.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU APPLY PRESSURE TO THE CLAMP BLOCKS, TEMPORARILY TORQUE THE NUTS. THIS IS TO SAFETY THE CLAMP BLOCKS IN POSITION AND REMOVE THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE PARTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE CLAMP BLOCKS CAN FALL BECAUSE OF GRAVITY AND THERE WILL BE AN UNWANTED SPACE BETWEEN THE PARTS.

F MLG Door-Uplock Proximity-Sensors ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
Apply pressure to the clamp blocks (18) to remove all relative motion between:
  • The proximity sensor (11), the electrical connector (20) and the clamp blocks (18).
       8 TORQUE the nuts (22) to between 5.34 and 4.83 m.N (47.26 and 42.74 lbf.in ) T.
     (g) Connect the electrical connector (32) to the proximity sensor (27) as follows:
       1 Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
       2 Make sure that the electrical connector (32) is clean and in the correct condition.
       3 Before you connect the electrical connector (32) to the proximity sensor (27):
  • Put tape on the surface of the switch bracket (34) near the electrical connector (32) to prevent scratching the bracket.
       4 Connect the electrical connector (32) to the proximity sensor (27).
       5 Remove the tape from the surface of the switch bracket (34).
       6 Put the clamp blocks (31) in position and install the cap screws (33), the washers (30) and the nuts (29). Do not tighten the nuts (29) at this step.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU APPLY PRESSURE TO THE CLAMP BLOCKS, TEMPORARILY TORQUE THE NUTS. THIS IS TO SAFETY THE CLAMP BLOCKS IN POSITION AND REMOVE THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE PARTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE CLAMP BLOCKS CAN FALL BECAUSE OF GRAVITY AND THERE WILL BE AN UNWANTED SPACE BETWEEN THE PARTS.

F MLG Door-Uplock Proximity-Sensors ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
Apply pressure to the clamp blocks (31) to remove all relative motion between:
  • The proximity sensor (27), the electrical connector (32) and the clamp blocks (31).
       8 TORQUE the nuts (29) to between 5.34 and 4.83 m.N (47.26 and 42.74 lbf.in ) T.
   (3) Install MLG downlock proximity-sensor 15GA (14GA) as follows:
     (a) Install the proximity sensor (37) on the lock stay with the cap screws (36).
     (b) If you removed the target (31) during the removal procedure, do the steps that follow:
       1 Put the spacer (32) (if applicable) and the target (31) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the cap screws (30), the washers (35) and the nuts (34).
     (c) Make sure that the items that follow are in the same position identified in the removal procedure:
  • The target (31)
  • The proximity sensor (37)
  • The spacer (32), if applicable.
     (d) TORQUE the cap screws (36) and (30) to between 0.192 and 0.124 m.daN (16.99 and 10.97 lbf.in ) T.
     (e) Safety the cap screws (36) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
     (f) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (g) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (29) to the applicable proximity sensor (37).
   (4) Install MLG downlock proximity-sensor 17GA (16GA) as follows:
     (a) Install the proximity sensor (55) on the sensor mounting bracket with the cap screws (59), the washers (56) and the nuts (57).
     (b) If the target (51) is removed, do the steps that follow:
       1 Put the target spacer (52) (if applicable) and the target (51) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the cap screws (50), the washers (53) and the nuts (54).
     (c) Make sure that the items that follow are in the same position identified in the removal procedure:
  • The proximity sensor (55)
  • The target (51)
  • the spacer (52), if applicable.
     (d) TORQUE the nuts (57) and (54) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
     (e) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (f) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (g) Connect the electrical connector (60) to the applicable proximity sensor (55).
   (5) Install MLG extension proximity-sensor 21GA (20GA) as follows:
     (a) Put the spacer (72) (if applicable) and the proximity sensor (73) in position on the sensor mounting bracket.
     (b) Install the cap screws (71), the washers (74) and the nuts (75).
     (c) If you removed the target (78) during the removal procedure, do the steps that follow:
       1 Put the spacer (79) (if applicable) and the target (78) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the cap screws (77), the washers (80) and the nuts (81).
     (d) Make sure that the items that follow are in the same position identified in the removal procedure:
  • The target (78)
  • The proximity sensor (73)
  • The spacers (79) and (72), if applicable.
     (e) TORQUE the nuts (75) and (81) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
     (f) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (g) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (76) to the applicable proximity sensor (73).
   (6) Install MLG extension proximity-sensor 23GA (22GA) as follows:
     (a) Put the spacer (90) (if applicable) and the proximity sensor (99) in position on the sensor mounting bracket.
     (b) Install the cap screws (91), the washers (98) and the nuts (97).
     (c) If you removed the target (92) during the removal, do the steps that follow:
       1 Put the spacer (94) (if applicable) and the target (92) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the cap screws (93), the washers (95) and the nuts (96).
     (d) Make sure that the items that follow are in the same position identified in the removal procedure:
  • The target (92)
  • The proximity sensors (99)
  • The spacers (94) and (90).
     (e) TORQUE the nuts (97) and (96) to between 0.45 and 0.4 m.daN (39.82 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
     (f) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (g) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (100) to the applicable proximity sensor (99).
   (7) Install MLG door-open proximity-sensors 33GA (32GA) and 35GA (34GA) as follows:
F MLG Door-Open Proximity-Sensors ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Put the spacer (115) (if applicable) and the proximity sensor (114) in position on the sensor mounting bracket.
     (b) Install the screws (113), the washers (104) and the nuts (103).
     (c) If you removed the target (108) during the removal, do the steps that follow:
       1 Install the spacer (109) (if applicable) and the target (108) in position on the target mounting bracket.
       2 Install the screws (107), the washers (112) and the nuts (111).
     (d) Make sure that the items that follow are in the same position identified in the removal procedure:
  • The target (108)
  • The proximity-sensor (114)
  • The spacer (109), if applicable
     (e) TORQUE the nuts (103) and (111) to between 0.192 and 0.124 m.daN (16.99 and 10.97 lbf.in ) T.
     (f) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
     (g) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
     (h) Connect the electrical connector (106) to the applicable proximity sensor (114).
   (8) For MLG uplock proximity-sensors 9GA (8GA) and 11GA (10GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.
06AAC5) or Coating_- Flexible Structure (Material No.04QAB2) to:
  • The cap screws (1) and (10)
  • The washers (2) and (9)
  • The nuts (6).
   (9) For MLG door-uplock proximity-sensors 27GA (26GA) and 29GA (28GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The heads and the tails of the cap screws (14), (15), (24), (36) and (40)
  • The washers (13), (16), (25), (35) and (38)
  • The nuts (23), (28) and (37).
   (10) For MLG downlock proximity-sensor 15GA (14GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The cap screws (36) and (30)
  • The nuts (34).
   (11) For MLG downlock proximity-sensor 17GA (16GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The cap screws (50) and (59)
  • The nuts (54) and (57).
   (12) For MLG extension proximity-sensors 21GA (20GA) and 23GA (22GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:
  • The cap screws (71), (77), (91) and (93)
  • The nuts (75), (81), (96) and (97).
   (13) For MLG door-open proximity-sensors 33GA (32GA) and 35GA (34GA), apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to:

   (1) Do a BITE test of the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-69-00-740-001).
   (2) For proximity-sensors 15GA (14GA), 17GA (16GA), 21GA (20GA), 23GA (22GA), 33GA (32GA) and 35GA (34GA):
     (a) It is permitted to do the inspection at the next maintenance check or at 15 flight cycles or 36 flight hours (the one that occurs first), if:
  • The proximity-sensor was only replaced
  • The target and the bracket were not moved
  • The shim was installed in the same position.
