Subtask 32-21-16-860-054-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the Green hydraulic system is depressurized and put it in the maintenance configuration.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
(2) Make sure that the reservoir of the Green hydraulic system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
(3) Make sure that the nose of the aircraft is lifted on jacks (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-003).
(4) In the cockpit, on the right center instrument panel 400VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control-lever.
(5) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Green hydraulic system:
(7) Make sure that the NLG doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
(8) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position in zone 123.
(9) Make sure that you obeyed the flight configuration precautions (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001).
Subtask 32-21-16-865-063-A (1) Make sure that the Green hydraulic system is depressurized and put it in the maintenance configuration.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
(2) Make sure that the reservoir of the Green hydraulic system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
(3) Make sure that the nose of the aircraft is lifted on jacks (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-003).
(4) In the cockpit, on the right center instrument panel 400VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control-lever.
(5) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Green hydraulic system:
- In the cockpit, on the HYD panel 40VU
- On the ground service panel of the Green hydraulic system, at access door 197CB.
(7) Make sure that the NLG doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
(8) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position in zone 123.
(9) Make sure that you obeyed the flight configuration precautions (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001).
B. Make sure that this(these) circuit breaker(s) is(are) open, safetied and tagged:

A. Preparation for Installation
(1) Clean the removed parts with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry them with filtered compressed air.
(2) For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
(3) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the threads of all the nuts, screws, bolts and pins.
(4) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the bushes (8) and the bolts (11) but not on the threads.
(5) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) to the pins and the washers.
Subtask 32-21-16-420-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Clean the removed parts with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and dry them with filtered compressed air.

(5) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) to the pins and the washers.
B. Installation of the NLG Drag-Strut Assy
(2) Install the drag strut (7) as follows:
(a) Install the drag strut (7) between the two spherical bearings with the HOIST 500 KG (1100 LB) and the attach bar of the 98D32203500000 TOOL-R I NLG.
(c) On the opposite side, measure the clearance between the spherical bearing and the drag strut (7).
(d) Make a selection of two washers from the list that follows to get a clearance of between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.):
(e) Remove the trunnion pins (16).
(f) Install the lubrication inserts (9) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-060 PACKINGS (10) and the bushes (8) in the trunnion pins (16).
1 You must install the new packings (10) after each removal of the trunnion pins (16).
(g) Put one of the washers (12), (13), (14) or (15) on each side of the drag strut (7).
(h) Install the trunnion pins (16) assembled with the lubrication inserts (9) and the bushes (8).
(i) Put the two rigging bores horizontally.
(j) Make sure that the grease nipples of the lubrication insert (9) points up.
(k) Align the rigging bores of the trunnion pins (16) and the drag strut (7).
(l) Install the bolts (11), washers (17) and nuts (18).
(m) TORQUE the nuts (18) to between 3 and 2.5 m.daN (22.12 and 18.44 lbf.ft )

(n) Safety the nuts (18) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PIN (19).
1 Make sure the heads of the bolt (11) is in rear side of the aircraft.
(o) Align the rigging bores of the NLG leg and the drag strut (7) and install the pin (1) with the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
(p) Remove the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
(q) Install the ring (5).
(r) Align the rigging bores with the pin (1).
(s) Install the bolt (6), washer (2) and nut (3).
(t) TORQUE the nut (3) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft )

(u) Safety the nut (3) with the new AIPC 32-21-11-42-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-62-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-82-050 COTTER PIN (4).
(3) Install the NLG lockstay assy (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-17-400-001).
(4) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) to zones E.
Subtask 32-21-16-420-053-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(1) Install the M21931 HOISTING DEVICE on the drag strut (7). (2) Install the drag strut (7) as follows:
(a) Install the drag strut (7) between the two spherical bearings with the HOIST 500 KG (1100 LB) and the attach bar of the 98D32203500000 TOOL-R I NLG.
NOTE: It is recommended to assemble the drag strut (7) with the identification plate in the direction of the ground to see identification plate more easily.
(b) Engage the trunnion pins (16) (do not engage them fully) in the spherical bearings and put the drag strut (7) against one of the bearings. (c) On the opposite side, measure the clearance between the spherical bearing and the drag strut (7).
(d) Make a selection of two washers from the list that follows to get a clearance of between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.):
- AIPC 32-21-16-03-281 WASHER (12)
- AIPC 32-21-16-03-282 WASHER (13)
- AIPC 32-21-16-03-284 WASHER (14)
- AIPC 32-21-16-03-286 WASHER (15).
(e) Remove the trunnion pins (16).
(f) Install the lubrication inserts (9) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-060 PACKINGS (10) and the bushes (8) in the trunnion pins (16).
1 You must install the new packings (10) after each removal of the trunnion pins (16).
(g) Put one of the washers (12), (13), (14) or (15) on each side of the drag strut (7).
(h) Install the trunnion pins (16) assembled with the lubrication inserts (9) and the bushes (8).
(i) Put the two rigging bores horizontally.
(j) Make sure that the grease nipples of the lubrication insert (9) points up.
(k) Align the rigging bores of the trunnion pins (16) and the drag strut (7).
(l) Install the bolts (11), washers (17) and nuts (18).
(m) TORQUE the nuts (18) to between 3 and 2.5 m.daN (22.12 and 18.44 lbf.ft )
. (n) Safety the nuts (18) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PIN (19).
1 Make sure the heads of the bolt (11) is in rear side of the aircraft.
(o) Align the rigging bores of the NLG leg and the drag strut (7) and install the pin (1) with the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
(p) Remove the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
(q) Install the ring (5).
(r) Align the rigging bores with the pin (1).
(s) Install the bolt (6), washer (2) and nut (3).
(t) TORQUE the nut (3) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft )
.(u) Safety the nut (3) with the new AIPC 32-21-11-42-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-62-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-82-050 COTTER PIN (4).
(3) Install the NLG lockstay assy (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-17-400-001).
(4) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) to zones E.
B. Installation of the NLG Drag-Strut Assy
(2) Install the drag strut (7) as follows:
(a) Install the drag strut (7) between the two spherical bearings with the HOIST 500 KG (1100 LB) and the attach bar of the 98D32203500000 TOOL-R I NLG.
(b) Engage the trunnion pins (16) (do not engage them fully) in the spherical bearings and put the drag strut (7) against one of the bearings.
(c) On the opposite side, measure the clearance between the spherical bearing and the drag strut (7).
(d) Make a selection of two washers from the list that follows to get a clearance of between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.):

(m) TORQUE the nuts (18) to between 30 and 25 m.N (22.12 and 18.44 lbf.ft )

(n) Safety the nuts (18) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PIN (19).
1 Make sure the heads of the bolt (11) is in rear side of the aircraft.
(o) Align the rigging bores of the NLG leg and the drag strut (7) and install the pin (1) with the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
(p) Remove the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
(q) Install the ring (5).
(r) Align the rigging bores with the pin (1).
(s) Install the bolt (6), washer (2) and nut (3).
(t) TORQUE the nut (3) to between 20 and 17 m.N (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft )

(u) Safety the nut (3) with the new AIPC 32-21-11-42-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-62-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-82-050 COTTER PIN (4).
(3) Install the NLG lockstay assy (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-17-400-001).
(4) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) to zones E.
Subtask 32-21-16-820-056-A WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(1) Install the M21931 HOISTING DEVICE on the drag strut (7). (2) Install the drag strut (7) as follows:
(a) Install the drag strut (7) between the two spherical bearings with the HOIST 500 KG (1100 LB) and the attach bar of the 98D32203500000 TOOL-R I NLG.
(b) Engage the trunnion pins (16) (do not engage them fully) in the spherical bearings and put the drag strut (7) against one of the bearings.
(c) On the opposite side, measure the clearance between the spherical bearing and the drag strut (7).
(d) Make a selection of two washers from the list that follows to get a clearance of between 0.2 mm (0.0079 in.) and 0.5 mm (0.0197 in.):
- AIPC 32-21-16-03-281 WASHER (12)
- AIPC 32-21-16-03-282 WASHER (13)
- AIPC 32-21-16-03-284 WASHER (14)
- AIPC 32-21-16-03-286 WASHER (15).
(e) Remove the trunnion pins (16).
(f) Install the lubrication inserts (9) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-060 PACKINGS (10) and the bushes (8) in the trunnion pins (16).
1 You must install the new packings (10) after each removal of the trunnion pins (16).
(g) Put one of the washers (12), (13), (14) or (15) on each side of the drag strut (7).
(h) Install the trunnion pins (16) assembled with the lubrication inserts (9) and the bushes (8).
(i) Put the two rigging bores horizontally.
(j) Make sure that the grease nipples of the lubrication insert (9) points up.
(k) Align the rigging bores of the trunnion pins (16) and the drag strut (7).
(l) Install the bolts (11), washers (17) and nuts (18).
(m) TORQUE the nuts (18) to between 30 and 25 m.N (22.12 and 18.44 lbf.ft )
. (n) Safety the nuts (18) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PIN (19).
1 Make sure the heads of the bolt (11) is in rear side of the aircraft.
(o) Align the rigging bores of the NLG leg and the drag strut (7) and install the pin (1) with the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
(p) Remove the J47554 GUIDE CONE.
(q) Install the ring (5).
(r) Align the rigging bores with the pin (1).
(s) Install the bolt (6), washer (2) and nut (3).
(t) TORQUE the nut (3) to between 20 and 17 m.N (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft )
.(u) Safety the nut (3) with the new AIPC 32-21-11-42-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-62-050 COTTER PIN (4) or AIPC 32-21-11-82-050 COTTER PIN (4).
(3) Install the NLG lockstay assy (Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-17-400-001).
(4) Apply a layer of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.06ABF1) to zones E.
C. Adjustment of the Attachment Roller Positions
(2) Check dimension K. As minimum, it is mandatory that shim (35) remains in place. If you have record of dimension K from the previously installed Drag-Strut, adjust the number of shims to match value K.
(a) Remove the cotter pin (23), nut (24) and washer (25).
(b) Remove the pin (33) and washer (34).
(c) Remove the roller (28) and washers (27) and (32).
(d) Removal of the lockwire
2 Cut and discard the lockwire from the bolt (31).
3 Release the tabs of the lock plate (30).
(e) Remove the bolt (31), lock plate (30) and washer (29).
(f) Remove the fork end (26) and the shim (35).
(4) Make a selection between the AIPC 32-21-16-03-170 SHIM (36), AIPC 32-21-16-03-180 SHIM (37), AIPC 32-21-16-03-190 SHIM (38), AIPC 32-21-16-03-200 SHIM (39) and AIPC 32-21-16-03-210 SHIM (40) to adjust clearance K.
(a) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) on the shims you selected and install them on the support (41).
(b) Make sure that the stud (22) is installed.
(c) Install the shim (35) and the fork end (26) on the other shims, note that you must retain shim (35).

(f) TORQUE the nut (43) to between 0.6 and 0.5 m.daN (53.10 and 44.25 lbf.in )
and safety with the lockwire.
(6) Adjustment of the roller position
(c) Install the washer (25) and the nut (24) on the pin (33).
(d) TORQUE the nut (24) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft )
and and safety it with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PIN (23) cotter pin (23).
Subtask 32-21-16-820-057-A NOTE: If you are installing an NLG Drag-Strut Assy which you have previously removed from the same aircraft, and if you haven't adjusted the roller assembly since removal; go straight to the next paragraph of clearance verifications.
(1) Make sure that the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR and the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK are in position. (2) Check dimension K. As minimum, it is mandatory that shim (35) remains in place. If you have record of dimension K from the previously installed Drag-Strut, adjust the number of shims to match value K.
NOTE: It is mandatory that shim (35) always remains in place, otherwise damage to the Lockstay pin will occur when tightening bolt (31).
(3) If available, adjust the new lockstay assy with the recorded K dimension: (a) Remove the cotter pin (23), nut (24) and washer (25).
(b) Remove the pin (33) and washer (34).
(c) Remove the roller (28) and washers (27) and (32).
(d) Removal of the lockwire

3 Release the tabs of the lock plate (30).
(e) Remove the bolt (31), lock plate (30) and washer (29).
(f) Remove the fork end (26) and the shim (35).
(4) Make a selection between the AIPC 32-21-16-03-170 SHIM (36), AIPC 32-21-16-03-180 SHIM (37), AIPC 32-21-16-03-190 SHIM (38), AIPC 32-21-16-03-200 SHIM (39) and AIPC 32-21-16-03-210 SHIM (40) to adjust clearance K.
(a) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) on the shims you selected and install them on the support (41).
(b) Make sure that the stud (22) is installed.
(c) Install the shim (35) and the fork end (26) on the other shims, note that you must retain shim (35).
(d) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the thread and smooth parts of the shank of the bolt (31). This includes under the head of the bolt and the fillet.
(e) Install the washer (29), lock plate (30) and bolt (31).

(a) Position on the fork end (26) the roller (28) with the number of adjustment washers (27) and (32) on the right side and the left side to obtain the same assembly as recorded during the removal of the NLG Drag-Strut Assy. NOTE: A total of twenty washers must be installed.
(b) Install the pin (33) with the washer (34) on the fork end (26). (c) Install the washer (25) and the nut (24) on the pin (33).
(d) TORQUE the nut (24) to between 2 and 1.7 m.daN (14.75 and 12.54 lbf.ft )
and and safety it with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PIN (23) cotter pin (23). D. Clearances verifications
(1) Retract the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-001).
(2) On the left side, remove the cotter pins (51) and (59).
(3) Remove the nuts (52) and (58) and washers (53) and (57).
(4) Remove the bolts (49) and (55) and rod (54).
(5) Remove the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR from the left door (60).
(6) Close the left door (60) manually and put it against the front stop (61).
(7) Measure and record clearance J3.
(8) Release the left door (60) and install the 98D32203502000 SAFETY PIN - NLG DOOR.
(9) Measure clearance J4 and record it.
(10) Measure clearance J1 and record it.
(11) Measure clearance J2 and record it.
(12) Extend the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-30-00-867-002).
(13) Remove the cotter pin (23), nut (24) and washer (25).
(14) Remove the pin (33) and washer (34).
(15) Remove the roller (28) and washers (27) and (32).
(16) Adjustment of J4 and J3 (if required).
(a) Removal of the lockwire
(c) Remove the fork end (26) and the shim (35).

(f) Make sure that the stud (22) is installed.
(g) Install the shim (35) on the fork end (26).
(h) Install the fork end (26) and the serrated plate (35) on the shim (36).
(i) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.06LDG2) to the thread and smooth parts of the shank of the bolt (31).
(j) Install the washer (29), AIPC 32-21-16-03-120 LOCK PLATE (30) and bolt (31).
(k) TORQUE the bolt (31) to between 2.56 and 2.16 m.daN (18.88 and 15.93 lbf.ft )

(17) Adjustment of Clearance J1 (if required).
(a) Put the washers (27) and (32) in position. Place washers on either side of the roller to achieve J1 clearance (20 washers always must be installed).
(b) Put the roller (28) in position.

(23) Safety the bolt (31) with the tabs of the lock plate (30) and with14QFB1 Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy - .
(24) Safety the nut (24) with the new AIPC 32-21-16-03-010 COTTER PIN (23).
(25) Install the rod (54), the bush (50) and the bolt (49).
(26) Install the washer (53) and nut (52).
(27) TORQUE the nut (52) to between 0.61 and 0.6 m.daN (53.98 and 53.10 lbf.in )
and safety with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PIN (51).
(28) Install the rod (54), the bush (56) and the bolt (55).
(29) Install the washer (57) and the nut (58).
(30) TORQUE the nut (58) to between 0.61 and 0.6 m.daN (53.98 and 53.10 lbf.in )
and safety it with the new AIPC 32-21-16-02-010 COTTER PIN (59).
