A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: OBEY THE HYDRAULIC SAFETY PROCEDURES.
   (1) Obey the hydraulic safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-910-002).
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Blue hydraulic system:

  • in the cockpit on the hydraulic section 40VU of the overhead panel,
  • on the ground service panel of the Blue hydraulic system.
   (4) Make sure that the Blue hydraulic system is depressurized and put it in the maintenance configuration.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
   (5) Depressurize the reservoir of the Blue hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE RAT TRAVEL RANGE IS CLEAR BEFORE YOU EXTEND/RETRACT THE RAT.
   (6) Extend the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-00-869-005).

4. Procedure
Subtask 29-22-00-280-053-A
A. Functional Test of the RAT De-icing Device
   (1) Attach the 99D29207556000 TESTER-DE-ICING,RAT (7) in front of the RAT hub (8).
   (2) Turn the 99D29207556000 TESTER-DE-ICING,RAT (7) to align the chambers with the iron filings with the magnets on the inside of the RAT hub (8).
   (3) Make sure that the iron filings are aligned with the magnetic fields of all ten magnets.
   (4) If the iron filings in one or more chambers are not aligned with the related magnetic field, replace the RAT (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-010).
NOTE: You can identify a defective magnet as follows:
  • The iron filings stay at the lower side of the chamber while you align the 99D29207556000 TESTER-DE-ICING,RAT with the magnets.
   (5) Remove the bolts (3), the washers (2) and the cover plate (1).
   (6) Put a WRENCH - HEXAGONAL,(recess type, size 0.250 in.) (5) into the magnet stator shaft (6) at the rear of the RAT gearbox housing (4).
   (7) Turn the magnet stator shaft (6) approximately 36 degrees in clockwise and counterclockwise direction.
   (8) Make sure that the iron filings follow the magnetic fields while you turn the magnet stator shaft (6).
   (9) If the iron filings do not follow the magnetic fields, replace the RAT (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-010).
   (10) Remove the hexagonal recess type wrench (5) from the magnet stator shaft (6).
   (11) Remove the 99D29207556000 TESTER-DE-ICING,RAT (7) from the RAT hub (8).
   (12) Install the cover plate (1), the washers (2) and the bolts (3).
   (13) TORQUE the bolts (3) to between 95 and 86 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.97 m.daN ) T.
