Installation of the Self-Sealing Coupling


WARNING: OBEY THE HYDRAULIC SAFETY PROCEDURES.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM COMPONENTS FOR A SHORT TIME AFTER THE ENGINE IS SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE COMPONENTS STAY HOT FOR SOME TIME AND CAN CAUSE INJURY.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET HYDRAULIC FLUID FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED HYDRAULIC FLUID MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FLUID CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002)
   (2) Make sure that the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001)

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On AIR COND panel 30VU:
  • Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
  • Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate this pushbutton switch.
   (2) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Yellow hydraulic system:
  • On the HYD section of panel 40VU
  • On access door 198CB, on the ground-service panel of the Yellow hydraulic system.
   (3) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position on access door 195BB to tell persons not to pressurize the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system.
   (4) Make sure that you did the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).

D. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

E. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the right thrust-reverser cowl-door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

   (2) Make sure that an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 29-13-36-420-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Self-Sealing Coupling
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the hydraulic line end-fittings are serviceable.
   (4) Make sure that a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) is in position below the hydraulic connections.
   (5) Remove the blanking plugs from the pipe (6), the pressure hose (3) and the self-sealing coupling (2).
   (6) Install the self-sealing coupling (2) on the pylon fuel-hydraulic panel (1).
   (7) Install the washers (5) and screws (4).
   (8) Tighten the screws (4).
   (9) Connect the coupling nut of the pipe (6) to the self-sealing coupling (2).
   (10) TORQUE the coupling nut of the pipe (6) to between 9.5 and 8.5 m.daN (70.06 and 62.68 lbf.ft ) T.
   (11) Install the pressure hose (3) to the self-sealing coupling (2).
   (12) TORQUE the coupling nut of the pressure hose (3) to between 15.7 and 14.7 m.daN (115.78 and 108.41 lbf.ft )

   (13) Identify the tightened union nuts with a red line

B. Connection of the Hydraulic Suction Assembly
   (1) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
   (2) Turn and move the pipe (1) up until its coupling nut is in front of the hole on the pylon fuel-hydraulic panel (2).
   (3) Remove the CAP - PROTECTION from the hydraulic suction assembly (5).
   (4) Put the hydraulic suction assembly (5) in position on the pylon fuel-hydraulic panel (2).
   (5) Install the washers (3) and screws (4).
   (6) Tighten the screws (4).
   (7) Connect the coupling nut of the pipe (1) to the hydraulic suction assembly (5).
   (8) TORQUE the coupling nut of the pipe (1) to the hydraulic suction assembly (5) to between 9.5 and 8.5 m.daN (70.06 and 62.68 lbf.ft ) T.
   (9) TORQUE the coupling nut of the pipe (1) on the pylon side to between 9.5 and 8.5 m.daN (70.06 and 62.68 lbf.ft )

   (10) Identify the tightened union nuts with a red line

C. Operational Test
   (1) Do the operational test of the Yellow hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-13-00-710-002)
   (2) After the dry-motoring, make sure that there were no leaks from the hydraulic connections.
   (3) Make sure that the level of the hydraulic fluid in the Yellow reservoir is correct. If necessary, fill the hydraulic reservoir (Ref. AMM TASK 12-12-29-611-001).
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Remove the container.
   (2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Close the right thrust-reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

   (1) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802):

   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
