A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
   (2) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (3) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear doors.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the applicable fuel tank is defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (2) Make sure that the remaining fuel has been drained from the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
   (3) Make sure that the MLG doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
   (4) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is installed on the MLG door actuators.
   (5) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is below the access panels 147AZ and 148AZ.
   (6) Make sure that the access panels 191JB, 195BB, 196BB, 147AZ and 148AZ are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
   (7) Make sure that the left-hand fan plenum-chamber, 10HM5 is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-22-000-001).
   (8) Make sure that the MLI rod (92QM) has been removed from the MLI lower housing (91QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-001).
   (9) Make sure that the MLI lower housing (91QM) is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-002).

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the applicable fuel tank is defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (2) Make sure that the remaining fuel has been drained from the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
   (3) Make sure that the MLG doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).

   (7) Make sure that the left-hand fan plenum-chamber, 10HM5 is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-22-000-001).
   (8) Make sure that the MLI rod (92QM) has been removed from the MLI lower housing (91QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-001).
   (9) Make sure that the MLI lower housing (91QM) is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-002).
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-43-23-420-063-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Apply Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) or Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) to the new AIPC 28-43-05-01-110 O-RING (6) or AIPC 28-43-85-01-110 O-RING (6) and the new AIPC 28-43-05-01-110 O-RING (20) or AIPC 28-43-85-01-110 O-RING (20).

B. Installation of the Magnetic Level-Indicator Upper-Housing 98QM
   (1) Install the new O-ring (20) on the center body assembly (7).
   (2) Carefully install the center body assembly (7), together with the backing seal plates (16) and (19), on the vapor-seal membrane. Install the screws (17) and the washers (18) in the center body assembly (7).
   (3) Install the bonding strap (8) with the screw (9), the washers (10) and (13) and the nut (14) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (4) Apply a thin layer of Coating Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06HAA1) to the interface of the screws (3).
   (5) Install the bolts (15) in the vapor seal reinforcement (11) and the seal (12).
   (6) Install the new O-ring (6) in the upper body (5).
   (7) Carefully install the upper body (5) together with the float (2) into the support bracket (1).
   (8) Install the upper body (5) to the center body (7) with the washers (4) and the screws (3).
   (9) Apply a thin layer of Coating Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06HAA1) over the screws (3) and the washers (4).

B. Installation of the Magnetic Level-Indicator Upper-Housing 98QM
   (1) Install the new O-ring (20) on the center body assembly (7).
   (2) Carefully install the center body assembly (7), together with the backing seal plates (16) and (19), on the vapor-seal membrane. Install the screws (17) and the washers (18) in the center body assembly (7).
   (3) Install the bonding strap (8) with the screw (9), the washers (10) and (13) and the nut (14) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (4) Apply a thin layer of Coating Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06HAA1) to the interface of the screws (3) and (23).
   (5) Install the bolts (15) in the vapor seal reinforcement (11) and the seal (12).
   (6) Install the new O-ring (6) in the upper body (5).
   (7) Carefully install the upper body (5) together with the float (2) into the support bracket (1).
   (8) Install the upper body (5) to the center body (7) with the washers (4) and the screws (3).
   (9) Install the bonding strap (21) to the upper body (5) with the washer (22) and the screw (23) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (10) Apply a thin layer of Coating Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06HAA1) over the screws (3) and (23) and the washers (4) and (22).

C. Close Access
   (1) Install the center-tank access panels 147AZ, 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001).

   (1) Install the center-tank access panel 148AZ and the ACT-Equipment Support Door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001).

D. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Refuel the center tank to high level (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).

E. Test
   (1) Make sure that the float (2) moves smoothly along the complete length of the MLI housing tube.
   (2) Put a CONTAINER - CLEAN, APPLICABLE directly below the MLI to collect all fuel that leaks.
   (3) Monitor the MLI for a minimum period of one hour.
   (4) Make sure that the fuel does not leak from the MLI upper housing.
   (5) Do the leak test and make sure that the vapor seal does not leak (Ref. AMM TASK 28-18-00-700-001).

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the MLI lower housing 91QM (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-400-002).
   (3) Install the MLI rod 92QM (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-400-001).
   (4) Install the left-hand fan plenum-chamber, 10HM5 (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-22-400-001).
   (5) Install the access panels 191JB and 195BB and/or 196BB.
   (6) Close the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).

B. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Refuel, defuel or transfer fuel as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003), (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001).

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the safety barriers.
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
