A. Safety Precautions

WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

(1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(2) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.
(3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear and the related doors.

B. Fuel Configuration
(1) Defuel the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
(2) Drain the remaining fuel from the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).

C. Get Access
(1) Open the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(2) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is on the MLG door actuating-cylinders.
(3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the access panels 147AZ and 148AZ.
(4) Remove the center-tank access panels 147AZ and 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(5) Remove the access panels 191JB and 195BB and/or 196BB.
(6) Remove the left-hand fan plenum-chamber, 10HM5 (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-22-000-001).
(7) Remove the MLI rod (92QM) from the MLI lower housing (91QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-001).
(8) Remove the MLI lower housing (91QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-002).

Subtask 28-43-23-010-055-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

C. Get Access
(1) Open the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(2) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is on the MLG door actuating-cylinders.
(3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the access panel 148AZ and the ACT-Equipment Support Door.
(4) Remove the center-tank access panel 148AZ and the ACT-Equipment Support Door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(5) Remove the access panels 191JB and 195BB and/or 196BB.
(6) Remove the left-hand fan plenum-chamber, 10HM5 (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-22-000-001).
(7) Remove the MLI rod (92QM) from the MLI lower housing (91QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-001).
(8) Remove the MLI lower housing (91QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-002).

4. Procedure
Subtask 28-43-23-020-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Removal of the Magnetic Level-Indicator Upper-Housing 98QM

Magnetic Level Indicator 98QM - Upper Assembly Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

(1) Remove the screws (3) and the washers (4) and carefully move apart the upper body (5) from the center body assembly (7).
(2) Carefully remove the upper body (5) together with the float (2) from the support bracket (1).
(3) Remove and discard the O-ring (6).
(4) Remove sufficient bolts (15) from the vapor seal reinforcement (11) and the seal (12) to give access to the center body assembly (7).
(5) Remove the nut (14), the washers (10) and (13) and the screw (9), then remove the bonding strap (8) from the vapor seal edge-reinforcement.
(6) Remove the screws (17) and the washers (18) and remove the backing seal plates (16) and (19).
(7) Carefully remove the center body assembly (7) from the vapor seal membrane.
(8) Remove and discard the O-ring (20).

A. Removal of the Magnetic Level-Indicator Upper-Housing 98QM

Magnetic Level Indicator 98QM - Upper Assembly Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

(1) Remove the screw (23), the washer (22) and the bonding strap (21) from the upper body (5).
(2) Remove the screws (3) and the washers (4) and carefully move apart the upper body (5) from the center body assembly (7).
(3) Carefully remove the upper body (5) together with the float (2) from the support bracket (1).
(4) Remove and discard the O-ring (6).
(5) Remove sufficient bolts (15) from the vapor seal reinforcement (11) and the seal (12) to give access to the center body assembly (7).
(6) Remove the nut (14), the washers (10) and (13) and the screw (9), then remove the bonding strap (8) from the vapor seal edge-reinforcement.
(7) Remove the screws (17) and the washers (18) and remove the backing seal plates (16) and (19).
(8) Carefully remove the center body assembly (7) from the vapor seal membrane.
(9) Remove and discard the O-ring (20).
