A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001) when you do work in a fuel tank.
   (2) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
Subtask 28-42-43-860-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the applicable fuel tank is defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001) .
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is below the applicable zone:
     (a) FOR [57QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK A), [63QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK B)
below ZONE 540.
     (b) FOR [58QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING, TANK A), [64QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING TANK B)
below ZONE 640.
   (3) Make sure that the applicable access panels have been removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002):
     (a) FOR [57QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK A)
Remove 540AB, 540BB, 540DB, 540HB and 540NB.
     (b) FOR [58QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING, TANK A)
Remove 640AB, 640BB, 640DB, 640HB and 640NB.
     (c) FOR [63QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK B)
Remove 540AB, 540BB, 540EB, 540FB, 540LB, 540MB, 540PB and 540QB.

   (1) Make sure that the applicable fuel tank is defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).

   (4) Remove the applicable access door 574BB ( 674BB) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-51-37-000-009).
   (5) Make sure that the applicable RIB2 access panels are removed that follow:
     (a) FOR [57QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK A)
Remove 540AZ and 540BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).
     (b) FOR [58QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING, TANK A)

4. Procedure
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT ALL CABLES IN FUEL TANKS ARE CORRECTLY SUPPORTED (BY CLIPS AND OTHER SUPPORTS). IF CLIPS OR SUPPORTS ARE MISSING OR DAMAGED, YOU MUST REPLACE THEM.
WARNING: DO NOT REPAIR CABLES THAT ARE IN FUEL TANKS. DO NOT MAKE IN-LINE SPLICES. IF A CABLE IS DEFECTIVE, YOU MUST REPLACE THE FULL CABLE ASSEMBLY.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE INSTALLATION AND ROUTING OF ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES AGREE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE ELECTRICAL STANDARD PRACTICES MANUAL.
Subtask 28-42-43-420-098-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS.
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
WARNING: DO NOT LET COMPRESSED GAS TOUCH YOUR SKIN. THE GAS CAN GO THROUGH THE SKIN AND MAKE BUBBLES IN THE BLOOD. THIS CONDITION CAN KILL YOU.
   (1) Use a SPATULA - PLASTIC to remove the sealant at the interface of the electrical backshell (8) and the rear spar.
   (2) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean:
  • the electrical backshell (8)
  • the interface of the electrical backshell (8) and the rear spar.
   (3) Dry the cleaned areas with compressed air.
   (4) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
Subtask 28-42-43-420-098-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:

   (1) Use a SPATULA - PLASTIC to remove the sealant at the interface of the electrical backshell (7) and the rear spar.
   (2) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean:
  • The electrical backshell (7)
  • The interface of the electrical backshell (7) and the rear spar.
   (3) Dry the cleaned areas with compressed air.
   (4) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
Subtask 28-42-43-420-091-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Wing-Tank Harness 57QT (58QT), 63QT (64QT)
   (1) Get access to opening 540BB ( 640BB).
   (2) Identify and attach each piece of string to its applicable wing-tank harness cable.
   (3) Attach the related connectors together at all the ends of the wing tank harness with a TAPE - ADHESIVE.
NOTE: This will help you move the wing tank harness through its conduit.
   (4) Use the string carefully to pull the wing tank harness through its conduit.
   (5) When you install the wing tank harness, make sure that it does not catch.
   (6) Remove and discard the adhesive tape and the string from all the ends of the wing tank harness.
   (7) Apply a Threadlocking Adhesive-- Low strength - (Material No.05BAA1) to the threads of the electrical backshell (8).
   (8) Install a new AIPC 28-42-43-02-025 O-RING (4) on the electrical backshell (8).
   (9) Install the electrical backshell (8) in the rear spar.
   (10) Get access through opening
574BB ( 674BB).
   (11) Install the washer (5) and the nut (6).
   (12) TORQUE the nut (6) to between 1.27 and 1.16 m.daN (112.39 and 102.65 lbf.in ) T.
   (13) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) to remove unwanted adhesive from the electrical backshell (8) and the nut (6).
   (14) Safety the nut (6) an adjacent tag with a 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (15) Apply a Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) around the electrical backshell (8) to seal it to the rear spar.
   (16) Connect the electrical connector (7) to the electrical backshell (8).
   (17) Clean the electrical connector (7) with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with a Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (18) Apply a continuous layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Material No.12ACB1) to the electrical connector (7).
   (19) Identify the cable ends for the probes that follow:
     (a) FOR [57QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK A), [58QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING, TANK A)
21QT1(21QT2), 54QT1(54QT2), 23QT1(23QT2), 25QT1(25QT2), 27QT1(27QT2), 29QT1(29QT2), 59QT1(59QT2) and 61QT1(61QT2).
     (b) FOR [63QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK B), [64QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING TANK B)
54QT1(54QT2), 56QT1(56QT2), 26QT1(26QT2), 28QT1(28QT2), 30QT1(30QT2), 60QT1(60QT2) and 34QT1(34QT2).
   (20) Use a CRIMPING TOOL 46447 to crimp the correct terminal connectors to the color identified wires ESPM 2048140 and ESPM 2048190.
   (21) Connect the cable ends to their correct terminals of the probes (Ref. AMM TASK 28-42-15-400-005):
     (a) FOR [57QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK A), [58QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING, TANK A)
21QT1(21QT2), 54QT1(54QT2), 23QT1(23QT2), 25QT1(25QT2), 27QT1(27QT2), 29QT1(29QT2), 59QT1(59QT2) and 61QT1(61QT2).
     (b) FOR [63QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK B), [64QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING TANK B)
54QT1(54QT2), 56QT1(56QT2), 26QT1(26QT2), 28QT1(28QT2), 30QT1(30QT2), 60QT1(60QT2) and 34QT1(34QT2).
   (22) Identify the cable ends for the sensors that follow and connect them to their correct terminals (Ref. AMM TASK 28-46-15-400-009) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-46-17-400-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-46-19-400-001):
     (a) FOR [57QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK A), [58QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING, TANK A)
16QJ1(16QJ2), 29QJ1(29QJ2), 38QJ1(38QJ2), 40QJ1(40QJ2) and 17QJ1(17QJ2).
     (b) FOR [63QT] (HARNESS-LEFT WING TANK B), [64QT] (HARNESS-RIGHT WING TANK B)

   (3) Attach the related connectors together at all the ends of the wing tank harness with a TAPE - ADHESIVE.
NOTE: This will help you move the wing tank harness through its conduit.
   (4) Use the string to carefully pull the wing tank harness through its conduit.
   (5) When you install the wing tank harness, make sure that it does not catch.
   (6) Remove and discard the adhesive tape and the string from every end of the wing tank harness.
   (7) Apply a Threadlocking Adhesive-- Low strength - (Material No.05BAA1) to the threads of the electrical backshell (8).
   (8) Install a new AIPC 28-42-43-02-025 O-RING (4) on the electrical backshell (8).
   (9) Install the electrical backshell (8) in the rear spar.
   (10) Get access through opening

   (11) Install the washer (5) and the nut (6).
   (12) TORQUE the nut (6) to between 1.27 and 1.16 m.daN (112.39 and 102.65 lbf.in ) T.
   (13) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) to remove unwanted adhesive from the electrical backshell (8) and the nut (6).
   (14) Safety the nut (6) to an adjacent tag with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (15) Apply a Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) around the electrical backshell (8) to seal it to the rear spar.
   (16) Connect the electrical connector (7) to the electrical backshell (8).
   (17) Clean the electrical connector (7) with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with a Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (18) Apply a continuous layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Material No.12ACB1) to the electrical connector (7).
   (19) Identify the cable ends for the probes that follow:
