3. Job Set-up
NOTE: This procedure is applicable when the ACT fuel inlet valve is inoperative in the open position.
NOTE: This procedure is applicable when the ACT is used and before the aircraft is refueled.
Subtask 28-28-00-860-083-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (3) Transfer the fuel from the Additional Center Tank (ACT) to the center tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (4) On the APU section of the overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the APU/MASTER SW pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
   (5) On the FUEL section of the HYD/FUEL panel 40VU, make sure that all the L TK PUMPS and R TK PUMPS pushbutton switches are released (the OFF legends are on).
   (6) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
  • On the APU section of the overhead panel 25VU, to tell persons not to operate the APU/MASTER SW pushbutton switch.
  • On the FUEL section of the panel 40VU, to tell persons not to operate the fuel system.
  • On the ENG/APU FIRE panel located on the overhead panel 20VU, to tell persons not to operate the fire extinguishing system.

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the aft cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position at the aft cargo door opening.

A. ACT Fuel Inlet Valve Inoperative in the Open Position
NOTE: The inlet valve can stay in the open position and inoperative, when the transfer valve functions correctly.
   (1) To make sure that the transfer valve functions correctly do the subsequent test.

B. Operational Test
ACTION
RESULT
1.On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • make sure that the ACT pushbutton is released (FWD and FAULT legends are not on).

2.In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • make sure that the position indicator of the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (6QH) is in the closed position (cross-line).
  • disconnect the electrical connector 6QH-B from the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (motor 2).

3.On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • push the ACT pushbutton.
On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • the FWD legend in the ACT pushbutton switch comes on.

In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • the ACT fuel transfer valve (165QM) moves to the open position,
  • the position indicator of the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (6QH) shows the open position (in-line).
4.On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • release the ACT pushbutton.
On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • the FWD legend in the ACT pushbutton switch goes off.

In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • the ACT fuel transfer valve (165QM) moves to the closed position,
  • the position indicator of the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (6QH) shows the closed position (cross-line).
5.In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • connect the electrical connector 6QH-B to the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (motor 2),
  • disconnect the electrical connector 6QH-A from the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (motor 1).

6.On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • push the ACT pushbutton.
On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • the FWD legend in the ACT pushbutton switch comes on.

In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • the ACT fuel transfer valve (165QM) moves to the open position,
  • the position indicator of the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (6QH) shows the open position (in-line).
7.On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • release the ACT pushbutton.
On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • the FWD legend in the ACT pushbutton switch goes off.
8.On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • push the ACT pushbutton.
In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • the ACT fuel transfer valve (165QM) remains in the open position,
  • the position indicator of the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (6QH) shows the open position (in-line).
9.In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • connect the electrical connector 6QH-A to the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (motor 1).
10.On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • release the ACT pushbutton.
In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • the ACT fuel transfer valve (165QM) moves to the closed position,
  • the position indicator of the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (6QH) shows the closed position (cross-line).

B. Operational Test with Two ACT Installed
NOTE: The subsequent procedure is the same for each ACT. Therefore only one procedure is given. Differences between each ACT are given where applicable.

  • make sure that the ACT pushbutton is released (FWD and FAULT legends are not on).

  • the position indicator of the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (6QH) shows the open position (in-line).
9.In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • connect the electrical connector 6QH-A to the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (motor 1).
10.On the overhead FUEL panel 40VU:
  • release the ACT pushbutton.
In the compartment of the main landing gear at FR42 (Left port center tank access door):
  • the ACT fuel transfer valve (165QM) moves to the closed position,
  • the position indicator of the ACT fuel transfer-valve actuator (6QH) shows the closed position (cross-line).
5. Close-up
Subtask 28-28-00-860-084-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Put the aircraft back to the serviceable condition.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Close the aft cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
   (4) De-energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-862-001).
   (5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (6) On the FUEL CONTROL PANEL 40VU, put a new WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell the flight crew that the ACT Fuel Inlet Valve has been deactivated in the OPEN position.
   (7) Make an entry in the logbook.
