Subtask 28-28-00-860-071-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
(2) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(3) On the APU section of overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the APU/MASTER SW pushbutton switch (P/BSW) is released (the ON legend is off).
(4) On the FUEL section of HYD/FUEL panel 40VU, make sure that all the L TK PUMPS and R TK PUMPS P/BSWs are released (the OFF legends are on).
(5) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
Subtask 28-28-00-865-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
(2) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
(3) On the APU section of overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the APU/MASTER SW pushbutton switch (P/BSW) is released (the ON legend is off).
(4) On the FUEL section of HYD/FUEL panel 40VU, make sure that all the L TK PUMPS and R TK PUMPS P/BSWs are released (the OFF legends are on).
(5) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
- On the APU section of overhead panel 25VU, to tell persons not to operate the APU/MASTER SW P/BSW.
- On the FUEL section of panel 40VU, to tell persons not to operate the fuel system.
- On the ENG/APU FIRE panel located on overhead panel 20VU, to tell persons not to operate the fire extinguishing system.
- On the Additional Center Tank (ACT) control section of panel 28VU, to tell persons not to operate the fuel system.
B. Open, safety and tag this(these) circuit breaker(s):

C. Get Access
(1) Open the left Main Gear Door for Access (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position in the left Main-Landing-Gear (MLG) bay.
(3) Remove the protective cover from the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-003).
Subtask 28-28-00-010-051-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Open the left Main Gear Door for Access (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position in the left Main-Landing-Gear (MLG) bay.
(3) Remove the protective cover from the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-003).
C. Get Access
(1) Open the left main-gear door for access (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position in the left Main-Landing-Gear (MLG) bay.
(3) Remove the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
4. Procedure(1) Open the left main-gear door for access (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position in the left Main-Landing-Gear (MLG) bay.
(3) Remove the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
Subtask 28-28-00-040-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Deactivation of the Fuel Transfer Valve (Valve Inoperative in the Open position)
(a) Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) and (11) from the receptacles of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve Actuator (3).
(b) Remove the nut (8), the bolt (5) and the bonding strap (6) from the butt strap (7).
(c) Loosen the bolt (9) and remove the V-clamp (10) from the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve Actuator (3).
(d) Remove the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve Actuator (3) from the shaft of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve (1).
(a) On the line end of the electrical connector A (4), install a BRIDGE-WIRE (shunt) between the pins B and E.
(d) Install the T720456 TOOL - VALVE LOCKING on the flange of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve (1) to lock the valve in the closed position during the refuel of the ACT(s).
(e) Remove the safety clips and tags and close these circuit breakers:
- 2QU, 1QU.
(f) Do refuel the applicable ACT(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-004).
(g) After the refuel of the ACT(s), open, safety and tag again these circuit breakers:
- 2QU, 1QU.
(h) On the line end of the electrical connector A (4), remove the BRIDGE-WIRE (shunt) from the connector.
(i) Remove the T720456 TOOL - VALVE LOCKING from the flange of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve (1).
(3) Deactivate the Fuel Transfer Valve in open position as follows:
(a) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
(b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
(c) Safety the electrical connectors (4) and (11) to the adjacent electrical harness with a TIE WRAP(S).
(d) Do a visual check on the indicator of the Transfer Valve Actuator (3), to identify the position of the valve:
(f) Install the T720521 TOOL-VALVE LOCKING on the flange of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve (1), to lock the valve in the open position.
Subtask 28-28-00-040-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: The subsequent procedure is the same for each installed ACT. Therefore, only one procedure is given. Differences between each ACT are given where applicable.
(1) Removal of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve Actuator (3): (a) Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) and (11) from the receptacles of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve Actuator (3).
(b) Remove the nut (8), the bolt (5) and the bonding strap (6) from the butt strap (7).
(c) Loosen the bolt (9) and remove the V-clamp (10) from the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve Actuator (3).
(d) Remove the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve Actuator (3) from the shaft of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve (1).
NOTE: If it is necessary to refuel the ACT(s) before the deactivation of the valve, you must temporarily put the Fuel Transfer Valve into the closed position, to enable the refuel of the ACT(s).
NOTE: If it is not necessary to refuel the ACT(s), do continue with work step paragraph (3).
(2) Refuel the ACT(s) as follows: (a) On the line end of the electrical connector A (4), install a BRIDGE-WIRE (shunt) between the pins B and E.
NOTE: The installed shunt provides a substitute earth path for the ACT refuel valve and prevents an inhibition of ACT refuel.
(b) Do a visual check on the indicator of the Transfer Valve Actuator (3), to identify the position of the valve: - indicator in horizontal position, the transfer valve is OPEN,
- indicator in vertical position, the transfer valve is CLOSED.
(d) Install the T720456 TOOL - VALVE LOCKING on the flange of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve (1) to lock the valve in the closed position during the refuel of the ACT(s).
(e) Remove the safety clips and tags and close these circuit breakers:
- 2QU, 1QU.
(f) Do refuel the applicable ACT(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-004).
(g) After the refuel of the ACT(s), open, safety and tag again these circuit breakers:
- 2QU, 1QU.
(h) On the line end of the electrical connector A (4), remove the BRIDGE-WIRE (shunt) from the connector.
(i) Remove the T720456 TOOL - VALVE LOCKING from the flange of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve (1).
(3) Deactivate the Fuel Transfer Valve in open position as follows:
(a) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
(b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
(c) Safety the electrical connectors (4) and (11) to the adjacent electrical harness with a TIE WRAP(S).
(d) Do a visual check on the indicator of the Transfer Valve Actuator (3), to identify the position of the valve:
- indicator in horizontal position, the transfer valve is OPEN,
- indicator in vertical position, the transfer valve is CLOSED.
(f) Install the T720521 TOOL-VALVE LOCKING on the flange of the ACT Fuel Transfer Valve (1), to lock the valve in the open position.
A. Deactivation of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (valve is OFF in the open position)
(b) Cut and discard the lockwire:
(c) Loosen the screw (5) and remove the V-clamp (6) from the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2).
(d) Remove the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2) from the shaft of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (1).
(e) Remove the O-ring (7) and discard it.
(a) On the line end of the electrical connector A (3), install a BRIDGE-WIRE (shunt) between the pins B and E.
(d) Install the T720456 TOOL - VALVE LOCKING on the flange of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (1) to lock the valve in the closed position during the refuel of the ACT(s).
(e) Remove the safety clips and tags then close these circuit breakers:
- 2QU, 1QU.
(f) Do refuel the applicable ACT(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-004).
(g) After the refuel of the ACT(s), open safety and tag again these circuit breakers:
- 2QU, 1QU.
(h) On the line end of the electrical connector A (3), remove the BRIDGE-WIRE (shunt) from the connector.
(i) Remove the T720456 TOOL - VALVE LOCKING from the flange of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (1).
(3) Deactivate the ACT fuel-transfer valve in open position:
(b) Safety the electrical connectors (4) and (3) to the adjacent electrical harness with a TIE WRAP(S).
(c) Do a visual check on the indicator of the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2) to identify the position of the valve:
(e) Install the T720521 TOOL-VALVE LOCKING on the flange of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (1) to lock the valve in the open position.
5. Close-upNOTE: The subsequent procedure is the same for each installed ACT. Therefore, only one procedure is given. Differences between each ACT are given where applicable.
(1) Removal of the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2): CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a) Disconnect the electrical connectors (3) and (4) from the receptacles of the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2). (b) Cut and discard the lockwire:
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
1 Cut and discard the lockwire from the screw (5). (c) Loosen the screw (5) and remove the V-clamp (6) from the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2).
(d) Remove the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2) from the shaft of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (1).
(e) Remove the O-ring (7) and discard it.
NOTE: If it is necessary to refuel the ACT(s) before the deactivation of the valve, you can temporarily put the fuel transfer valve into the closed position to enable the refuel of the ACT(s).
NOTE: If it is not necessary to refuel the ACT(s), you can continue with work step paragraph (3).
(2) Refuel the ACT(s): (a) On the line end of the electrical connector A (3), install a BRIDGE-WIRE (shunt) between the pins B and E.
NOTE: The installed shunt provides a equivalent earth path for the ACT refuel valve and prevents an inhibition of ACT refuel.
(b) Do a visual check on the indicator of the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2) to identify the position of the valve: - Indicator in horizontal position, the transfer valve is OPEN
- Indicator in vertical position, the transfer valve is CLOSED.
(d) Install the T720456 TOOL - VALVE LOCKING on the flange of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (1) to lock the valve in the closed position during the refuel of the ACT(s).
(e) Remove the safety clips and tags then close these circuit breakers:
- 2QU, 1QU.
(f) Do refuel the applicable ACT(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003) or (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-004).
(g) After the refuel of the ACT(s), open safety and tag again these circuit breakers:
- 2QU, 1QU.
(h) On the line end of the electrical connector A (3), remove the BRIDGE-WIRE (shunt) from the connector.
(i) Remove the T720456 TOOL - VALVE LOCKING from the flange of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (1).
(3) Deactivate the ACT fuel-transfer valve in open position:
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.(b) Safety the electrical connectors (4) and (3) to the adjacent electrical harness with a TIE WRAP(S).
(c) Do a visual check on the indicator of the ACT fuel-transfer valve-actuator (2) to identify the position of the valve:
- Indicator in horizontal position, the transfer valve is OPEN
- Indicator in vertical position, the transfer valve is CLOSED.
(e) Install the T720521 TOOL-VALVE LOCKING on the flange of the ACT fuel-transfer valve (1) to lock the valve in the open position.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Install the protective cover on the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-003).
(2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Close the main gear doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
(5) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
(6) Remove the warning notices:
Subtask 28-28-00-860-072-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Install the protective cover on the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-003).
(2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Close the main gear doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
(5) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
(6) Remove the warning notices:
- From APU section of overhead panel 25VU
- From FUEL section of panel 40VU
- From ENG/APU FIRE panel located on the overhead panel 20VU
- From ACT control section of panel 28VU.
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001).
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Close the main gear door (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
(5) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
(6) Remove the WARNING NOTICES:
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001).
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Close the main gear door (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
(5) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
(6) Remove the WARNING NOTICES:
- From APU section of overhead panel 25VU
- From FUEL section of panel 40VU
- From ENG/APU FIRE panel located on the overhead panel 20VU
- From ACT control section of panel 28VU.
