A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in the fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
   (2) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.

C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) in position below the applicable access panel.
   (2) Remove the applicable access panels:

     (a) FOR [40QM] (CPLG-REFUEL/DEFUEL, R), [41QM] (CAP-REFUEL/DEFUEL COUPLING, R)
Remove 622FB 622HB and 622JB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-006).

     (b) FOR [100QM] (COUPLING-REFUEL/DEFUEL, L), [101QM] (CAP-REFUEL/DEFUEL COUPLING, L)
Remove 522FB 522HB and 522JB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-006).
   (3) Remove the applicable access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002):

     (a) FOR [40QM] (CPLG-REFUEL/DEFUEL, R)
Remove 640JB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002).

     (b) FOR [100QM] (COUPLING-REFUEL/DEFUEL, L)
Remove 540JB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002).
Subtask 28-25-41-010-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) in position below the applicable access panel.
   (2) Remove the access panels:

     (a) FOR [40QM] (CPLG-REFUEL/DEFUEL, R), [41QM] (CAP-REFUEL/DEFUEL COUPLING, R)
Remove 622FB 622HB and 622JB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-006).
   (3) Remove the applicable access panels:
     (a) FOR [40QM] (CPLG-REFUEL/DEFUEL, R)
Remove 640JB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-25-41-020-054-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Refuel/Defuel Coupling-Cap
   (1) Remove the refuel coupling-cap (7) from the coupling (4).
   (2) Disconnect the chain (6) from the lug (5).
NOTE: The chain (6) is spring-loaded in to a protection sleeve on the cap (7).
   (3) Put a container below the coupling (4). Operate the coupling check-valve by hand to drain all remaining fuel. Remove the container.
   (4) If it is necessary to replace the chain assembly (13), do these steps that follow:
     (a) Remove the screws (11) from the cap (7).
     (b) Remove and discard the chain assembly (13).
     (c) Clean the screw location holes on the cap (7) and the screws (11) with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
NOTE: It is possible that there is a washer behind the nuts (3) and (8). You will subsequently remove and retain the washer(s).
   (5) Do the steps that follow:
     (a) Open the access door 192MB.
     (b) On the refuel/defuel panel 800VU:
       1 Put the MODE SELECT switch in the OFF position and lower the guard.
         a Make sure that the DEFUEL/XFR valve is in shut position (light 21QU goes off).
       2 Put all the REFUEL VALVES switches in the NORM position and lower the guard.
     (c) Close the access door 192MB.
NOTE: If operating in battery power, do not keep the door open longer than necessary because the battery can discharge.
   (6) For the bolts (1) and (9) where there is a washer behind the nuts (3) and (8):
  • Make a temporary mark on the coupling (4), so that you can install the same washer in the same position.
   (7) Engage a hexagon key in the end of each of the bolts (1) and (9) to prevent movement of the bolts. Remove the nuts (3) and (8) and the washers where applicable. Leave the bolts (1) and (9) in position.
   (8) Remove the coupling (4).
   (9) Discard the coupling (4) if it is to be replaced.
   (10) Put blanking plugs on the disconnected line ends.
   (11) Remove and discard the O-rings (2) and (10).
Subtask 28-25-41-020-054-E ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Refuel/Defuel Coupling-Cap
   (1) Remove the refuel coupling-cap (7) from the coupling (4).
   (2) Disconnect the chain (6) from the lug (5).
NOTE: The chain (6) is spring-loaded into a protection sleeve on the cap (7).
   (3) Put a container below the coupling (4). Operate the coupling check-valve with hand to drain all the remaining fuel. Remove the container.
   (4) If it is necessary to replace the chain assembly (13), do these steps that follow:
     (a) Remove the screws (11) from the cap (7).
     (b) Remove and discard the chain assembly (13).
     (c) Clean the screw location holes on the cap (7) and the screws (11) with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
NOTE: It is possible that there is a washer behind the nuts (3) and (8). You will subsequently remove and keep the washer(s).
   (5) Do the steps that follow:
     (a) Open the access door 622KB.
     (b) On the refuel/defuel panel 800VU:

   (11) Remove and discard the O-rings (2) and (10).
