Operational Test of the Defuel System


WARNING: OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
WARNING: STOP THE FUEL TANKER 60 m (196.85 ft) FROM THE AIRCRAFT NOSE WHILE THE WEATHER RADAR OPERATES. DO NOT OPERATE THE FUEL TANKER/PUMP UNIT UNTIL YOU STOP THE OPERATION OF THE WEATHER RADAR.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) You must obey the refuel/defuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-002) when you do work on the refuel/defuel system.
   (3) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
Subtask 28-25-00-010-075-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Get Access
F Refuel/Defuel Coupling ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE adjacent to refuel coupling 40QM.
   (2) Make sure that the fuel tanker is in the correct position.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU BOND THE FUEL TANKER TO THE AIRCRAFT. IF YOU DO NOT, AN ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE CAN OCCUR WHICH CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION OR FIRE.
   (3) Obey the local regulations for grounding (earthing) the aircraft:
     (a) Ground (earth) the fuel tanker/pump unit and the aircraft correctly (Ref. AMM TASK 12-34-24-869-001).
   (4) Bond the fuel tanker/pump unit to the aircraft (Ref. AMM TASK 12-34-24-869-001).
   (5) Remove refuel coupling cap 41QM.
   (6) Make sure that the hose coupling of the fuel tanker/pump unit is clean.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL SUPPLY HOSE IS CORRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE COUPLING BEFORE YOU REFUEL/DEFUEL THE AIRCRAFT. DO NOT CONNECT THE FUEL SUPPLY HOSE IF THERE ARE SIGNS OF DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT COUPLING LUGS OR SLOTS.
   (7) Connect the hose coupling of the fuel tanker/pump unit to the aircraft refuel/defuel coupling.
   (8) Make sure that there is sufficient space in the fuel tanker for the movement of fuel from the aircraft tanks.

B. Get Access
F Refuel/Defuel Coupling ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE adjacent to the applicable refuel coupling 100QM (40QM).
   (2) Make sure that the aircraft and the fuel tanker/pump unit are grounded correctly (Ref. AMM TASK 12-34-24-869-001).
   (3) Remove the applicable refuel coupling cap 101QM (41QM).
   (4) Make sure that the hose-coupling of the fuel tanker/pump unit is clean.
   (5) Connect the hose-coupling of the fuel tanker/pump unit to the aircraft refuel/defuel coupling.
NOTE: Make sure there is sufficient space in the fuel tanker for the movement of fuel from the aircraft tanks.

C. Fuel Configuration
   (1) If it is necessary, refuel the aircraft (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).
   (2) Make sure that there is not more than 5500 kg (12125 lb) of fuel in each wing.

D. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Set the fuel tanker/pump unit to the defuel mode.
   (2) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (3) Energize the Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitoring (ECAM) system (Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).
   (4) On the ECAM Control Panel, push the FUEL system page pushbutton switch (P/BSW).

E. Get Access
   (1) Open access door 192MB.
     (a) If operating in battery power, do not keep the door open longer than necessary because the battery can discharge.

   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) in position below zone 622.
   (2) Open the access door 622KB.
NOTE: If operating in battery power, do not keep the door open longer than necessary because the battery can discharge.
4. Procedure
WARNING: WHEN YOU OPERATE THE FUEL PUMPS DURING A MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, A MAINTENANCE PERSON MUST BE IN THE COCKPIT. THIS PERSON MUST STOP THE PUMPS WHEN THE LOW PRESSURE FAULT LIGHT(S) (ON PANEL 40VU) COME ON, TO PREVENT OPERATION OF THE PUMPS(S) WITHOUT FUEL ('DRY RUNNING'). OPERATION OF THE PUMPS WITHOUT FUEL CAN CAUSE A FIRE.

C. Operational Test of the Defuel System
   (1) Do the test that follows:

On refuel/defuel control-panel 800VU:

2.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Release (out) the MODE SEL pushbutton switch.
  • Push (in) the X FEED pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The MAN light of the pushbutton switch comes on.
  • The pushbutton switch ON and the OPEN LIGHTS come on.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The crossfeed valve is shown open (in-line green).
3.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The FAULT legends of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on momentarily.
  • The OFF legends of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches go off.
On the ECAM lower DU:

On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The CTR pump display shows pump on (in-line green).
  • The numbers on the CTR and the FOB fuel quantity displays decrease.
On fuel quantity-indicator 6QT:
  • The numbers on the CTR FUEL QTY display decrease.
On preselector 5QT:
  • The numbers on the ACTUAL display decrease.
8.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Release (out) the CTR TK PUMP 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The OFF legends CTR TK PUMP 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The CTR pump display shows off (cross-line amber).
  • The numbers on the CTR and the FOB fuel quantity displays become stable.
On fuel quantity-indicator 6QT:
  • The numbers on the CTR FUEL QTY display become stable.
On preselector 5QT:
  • The numbers on the ACTUAL display become stable.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE CROSSFEED VALVE, MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL PUMP(S) IS(ARE) OFF. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CROSSFEED VALVE.
9.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the MODE SEL pushbutton switch.
  • Release (out) the X FEED pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The MAN light of the pushbutton switch goes off.
  • The pushbutton switch ON and the OPEN lights go off.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The crossfeed valve shows closed (cross-line).
10.On refuel/defuel control-panel 800VU:
  • Put the MODE SELECT switch to the OFF and guarded position.
On refuel/defuel control-panel 800VU:
  • The DEFUEL XFR OPEN light goes off.

C. Operational Test of the Defuel System
NOTE: After you complete the maintenance procedure that follows:
  • There is a risk of surge tank overflow if the MODE SEL (4QL) pushbutton switch stays in the MAN mode.

  • Make sure that the REFUEL VALVES switches are in the NORM and guarded position.
  • Set the MODE SELECT switch to the DEFUEL XFR position.

2.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the X FEED pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The ON and the OPEN legends of the pushbutton switch come on.
On the ECAM lower Display Unit (DU):
  • The X FEED valve display shows that the valve is open (in-line green).
3.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The FAULT legends of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on momentarily.
  • The OFF legends of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches go off.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The LEFT PUMP display shows that the pumps are on (in-line green).
  • The numbers on the LEFT PUMP display and the Fuel On Board (FOB) fuel-quantity display decrease.
On fuel quantity-indicator 6QT:
  • The numbers on the LEFT FUEL QTY display decrease.
On preselector 5QT:
  • The numbers on the ACTUAL display decrease.
4.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Release (out) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The OFF legends of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The LEFT PUMP display shows thst the pumps are OFF (cross-line amber).
  • The numbers on the LEFT PUMP display and the FOB fuel-quantity display become stable.
On fuel quantity-indicator 6QT:

  • The OFF legends of the L TK PUMP 1 and 2 pushbutton switches go off.
  • The OFF legend of the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch goes off.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The LEFT PUMP display shows that the pumps are on (in-line green).
  • The CTR TK L XFR PUMP display shows that the pump is on (in-line green).
  • The numbers on the CTR PUMP display, LEFT PUMP display and the FOB fuel-quantity display decrease.
NOTE: The numbers on the CTR fuel-quantity display decrease, if one full and one underfull sensor is dry.
On fuel quantity-indicator 6QT:
  • The numbers on the CTR PUMP display and LEFT FUEL QTY display decrease.
On preselector 5QT:
  • The numbers on the ACTUAL display decrease.
8.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Release (out) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches
  • Release (out) the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The OFF legends of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on.
  • The OFF legend of the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch comes on.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The LEFT PUMP display shows that the pumps are off (cross-line amber).
  • The CTR TK L XFR PUMP display shows that the pump is off (cross-line amber).
  • The numbers on the CTR PUMP display, LEFT PUMP display and the FOB fuel-quantity display become stable.
On fuel quantity-indicator 6QT:
  • The numbers on the CTR PUMP display and LEFT FUEL QTY display become stable.
On preselector 5QT:
  • The numbers on the ACTUAL display become stable.
9.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switch.
  • Push (in) the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The FAULT legends of the R TK PUMP 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on momentarily.
  • The OFF legends of the R TK PUMP 1 and 2 pushbutton switches OFF legends go off.
  • The OFF legend of the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch goes off.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The RIGHT PUMP display shows that the pumps on (in-line green).
  • The CTR TK R XFR PUMP display shows that the pump is on (in-line green).
  • The numbers on the CTR PUMP display, RIGHT pump display and the FOB fuel-quantity display decrease.
