To drain the fuel from the fuel pipes
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THE AREA AROUND THE AIRCRAFT IS SAFE BEFORE YOU START THE REFUEL/DEFUEL PROCEDURE. IN THE SAFETY AREA, DO NOT:
- SMOKE
- MAKE SPARKS OR FIRE
- USE ANY EQUIPMENT WHICH IS NOT APPROVED FOR REFUEL/DEFUEL PROCEDURES.
WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
DO NOT SPILL FUEL ON THE ENGINES OR THE BRAKES. IF YOU SPILL FUEL ON ENGINES OR BRAKES THAT ARE HOT, IT CAN CAUSE FIRES.
WARNING:
DO NOT GO INTO A FUEL TANK UNTIL THE FUEL-GAS CONCENTRATION IS LESS THAN 10% OF THE APPLICABLE LEL (LOWER EXPLOSIVE LIMIT) (OR LESS THAN THE LOCAL REGULATORY-AUTHORITY LIMIT).
WARNING:
DO NOT REMOVE YOUR RESPIRATOR WHILE YOU ARE IN A FUEL TANK (UNLESS THE FUEL-GAS CONCENTRATION IS LESS THAN 5% OF LEL (LOWER EXPLOSIVE LIMIT)). YOU WILL BECOME ILL OR DIE.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES.
IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER.
IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP.
AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.
WARNING:
DO NOT GET YOUR CLOTHES SOAKED WITH FUEL.
WARNING:
USE THE APPROVED PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WHEN YOU GO IN A FUEL TANK.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE THE FUEL PIPES AND THE EQUIPMENT AS HANDHOLDS WHEN YOU DO WORK IN A FUEL TANK. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THEM.

A. To drain the fuel from the fuel pipes
(1) Defuel the aircraft fuel tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001):
(a) Make sure that the left wing tank, right wing tank and center tank pumps stay at low pressure for a minimum of 3 minutes.
(4) Obey the fuel safety procedure and remove the remaining fuel with the help of sponges and/or vacuum.
Subtask 28-25-00-650-088-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Defuel the aircraft fuel tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001):
(a) Make sure that the left wing tank, right wing tank and center tank pumps stay at low pressure for a minimum of 3 minutes.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET THE FUEL PUMPS OPERATE FOR MORE THAN 15 MINUTES WITH THE FAULT LIGHT ON. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FUEL PUMPS.
(2) Drain the remaining fuel from the left wing tank, right wing tank, outer cells, vent surge tanks and center tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).NOTE: You can use a 97A28002117002 TOOL-PURGING or a 98A28104000002 TOOL - PURGING to drain the remaining fuel.
NOTE: The fuel will drain slowly, thus it can take overnight for the fuel to drain out fully.
(3) Get access to the wing tank and the centre tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).(4) Obey the fuel safety procedure and remove the remaining fuel with the help of sponges and/or vacuum.
NOTE: Some fuel will stay in the refuel gallery pipes and the engine feed pipes after this procedure.
