Installation of the APU Fuel Pump


WARNING: THIS PROCEDURE USES A FUEL SYSTEM ITEM THAT IS IN A CATEGORY KNOWN AS A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL). CDCCL IDENTIFIES AN ITEM THAT CAN BE THE SOURCE OF A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK IGNITION. YOU MUST KEEP ALL CDCCL ITEMS IN THE APPROVED CONFIGURATION. DAMAGE, WEAR OR CHANGES TO A CDCCL ITEM CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 28-22-51-860-050-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) When you do maintenance work on the fuel system you must obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) On the APU section of the overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the APU MASTER SW is in the off position (the ON legend is off).
   (3) On the FUEL overhead panel 40VU, make sure that all L TK PUMPS and R TK PUMPS pushbutton switches are released (the OFF legends are on).
   (4) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are is in position:
  • on the overhead panel 25VU, to tell persons not to operate the APU MASTER SW,
  • on the FUEL panel 40VU, to tell persons not to operate the fuel system,
  • on the APU FIRE panel 20VU, to tell persons not to operate the fire extinguishing system.
   (5) Make sure that the left MLG door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
   (6) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) is in position at the MLG door.

4. Procedure
Subtask 28-22-51-420-051-A
A. Installation of the APU Fuel Pump (4QC)
NOTE: This installation procedure is applicable for the APU fuel pump P/N C12CB0010.
   (1) If you will install a new APU fuel pump:
     (a) Remove the drain plug (7) from the APU fuel pump (1).
     (b) Drain unwanted fluid from the APU fuel pump (1).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (c) Remove and discard the lock-wire from the screws (8).
     (d) Remove the screws (8) and the locking plate (9) from the APU fuel pump (1).
   (2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Apply a thin layer of Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) on the new AIPC 28-22-51-01-020 O-RING (10) and AIPC 28-22-51-01-010 O-RING (11).
   (5) Install the O-ring (10) and O-ring (11) on the APU fuel pump (1).
   (6) Put the APU fuel pump (1) in position on the canister (12).
   (7) Carefully push the APU fuel pump (1) into the canister (12).
   (8) Turn the APU fuel pump (1) clockwise and align the holes for the bolts (3) and the release slot to the block screw (5).
   (9) Install the bolts (3) on the APU fuel pump (1).
   (10) TORQUE the bolts (3) to between 0.45 and 0.35 m.daN (39.82 and 30.97 lbf.in )
T.
   (11) Put the locking plate (9) in position on the APU fuel pump (1).
   (12) Install the screws (8) on the locking plate (9).
   (13) TORQUE the screws (8) to between 0.068 and 0.05 m.daN (6.02 and 4.42 lbf.in )
T.
   (14) Safety the screws (8) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
NOTE: The O-ring (6) only must be replaced if the O-ring is in bad condition or, if the drain plug (7) is leaky.
   (15) Apply a thin layer of Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.
01ABA1) on the new AIPC 28-22-51-01-050 O-RING (6).
   (16) Put the O-ring (6) in position on the drain plug (7).
   (17) Install the drain plug (7) on the APU fuel pump (1).
   (18) TORQUE the drain plug (7) to between 1.2 and 0.97 m.daN (106.19 and 85.84 lbf.in )
T.
   (19) Connect the bonding strap (13) to the drain plug (7).
   (20) Install the washer (14) and the screw (15) on the drain plug (7).
WARNING: THIS INSTRUCTION IS APPLICABLE TO A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL) ITEM. CAREFULLY OBEY ALL GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU DO THIS STEP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, A DANGEROUS CONDITION CAN OCCUR THAT CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION.
   (21) Do the Electrical Bonding procedure on the APU fuel pump (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (22) Remove the blanking caps from the electrical connectors.
   (23) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (24) Connect the electrical connector (2) to the APU fuel pump (1).

B. Installation of the APU Fuel Pump (4QC)
NOTE: This installation procedure is applicable for the APU fuel pump
P/N C12CB0011/C12CB0012/C12CB0013.
installed on pump canister P/N C49AA0221 and C49AA0222.
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Install the new AIPC 28-22-51-02-010 PACKING (7) and the new AIPC 28-22-51-02-020 PACKING (8) with a thin layer of Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) to the APU fuel pump (1).
   (4) Put the APU fuel pump (1) in position.
   (5) Carefully push the APU fuel pump (1) into the canister (6) with the release slot in line with the security blockscrew (5).
   (6) Turn the APU fuel pump (1) clockwise until the pump is in the correct position.
   (7) Attach the APU fuel pump (1) with the screws (10) to the canister (6).
   (8) TORQUE the screws (10) to between 0.45 and 0.35 m.daN (39.82 and 30.97 lbf.in ) T.
   (9) Put the new
AIPC 28-22-51-02-030 PACKING (4) with a thin layer of Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) on the drain plug (3).
   (10) Install the drain plug (3) in the APU fuel pump (1).
   (11) TORQUE the drain plug (3) to between 0.6 and 0.49 m.daN (53.10 and 43.36 lbf.in ) T.
   (12) Electrical Bonding:
WARNING: THIS INSTRUCTION IS APPLICABLE TO A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL) ITEM. CAREFULLY OBEY ALL GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU DO THIS STEP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, A DANGEROUS CONDITION CAN OCCUR THAT CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION.
     (a) Do the electrical bonding procedure on the APU fuel pump (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (13) Remove the blanking caps from the electrical connectors.
   (14) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (15) Connect the electrical connector (2) to the APU fuel pump (1).

   (1) Do the leak test of the APU fuel line (Ref. AMM TASK 28-22-00-790-002).
   (2) Examine the APU fuel pump connections for leaks during the test.
NOTE: Leaks are not permitted.

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the LH MLG door (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
