A. Safety Precautions
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001) when you do work on the fuel system.
WARNING: YOU MUST PUT ON AND ATTACH A SAFETY HARNESS BEFORE YOU START WORK:
  • ON THE THS OR IN THE REAR FUSELAGE
  • ON TOP OF THE WINGS OR PYLONS.
WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
   (2) Put on and attach a safety harness before you start work in the work area
   (3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position:
  • on the panel 40VU, to tell persons not to operate the fuel system
  • on the panel 25VU, to tell persons not to operate the APU
  • on the panel 800VU, to tell persons not to refuel the aircraft.

   (1) Access to the APU fuel line between FR41 and FR42.
     (a) In the cabin compartment, make sure that the cabin floor panel 241HL is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 53-32-12-000-002).
   (2) Access to the APU fuel line between FR42 and FR70.
     (a) Make sure the aft cargo-compartment door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
     (b) Make sure the applicable access panels are removed for the APU fuel line:
  • Between the FR46 and FR47
    remove 151BW
  • Between the FR47 and FR49
    remove 151CW
  • Between the FR49 and FR52

  • Between the FR52 and FR55

   (3) Access to the APU fuel line aft of FR70.
     (a) Make sure the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is in position below the access door 312AR or 314AR as applicable.
     (b) Open the applicable access panels for the APU fuel line:
     (c) Set the light switch to on.
     (d) Be careful not to step on a closed access door.
   (4) Make sure there is a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position below the applicable connections.
   (5) Make sure the APU fuel line is drained.
   (6) Make sure that the bonding straps (8) and (17) are put temporarily to stowage positions with tapes.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Access to the APU fuel line between FR41 and FR42.
     (a) In the cabin compartment, make sure that the cabin floor panel 241HL is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 53-32-12-000-002).
   (2) Access to the APU fuel line between FR42 and FR70.
     (a) Make sure the AFT cargo compartment door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001) .
     (b) Make sure the applicable access panels are removed for the APU fuel line:

  • Between the FR47 and FR47.4

     (a) Make sure the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is in position below the access door 312AR or 314AR as applicable.
     (b) Open the applicable access panels for the APU fuel line:
     (c) Set the light switch to on.
     (d) Be careful not to step on a closed access door.
   (4) Make sure there is a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position below the applicable connections.
   (5) Make sure the APU fuel line is drained.
   (6) Make sure that the bonding straps (8) and (17) are put temporarily to stowage positions with tapes.

   (1) Access to the APU fuel line between FR41 and FR42.

   (3) Access to the APU fuel line aft of FR70.
     (a) Make sure the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is in position below the access door 312AR or 314AR as applicable.
     (b) Open the applicable access panels for the APU fuel line:
     (c) Set the light switch to on.
     (d) Be careful not to step on a closed access door.
   (4) Make sure there is a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) in position below the applicable connections.
   (5) Make sure the APU fuel line is drained.
   (6) Make sure that the bonding straps (8) and (17) are put temporarily to stowage positions with tapes.

D. Get Access
   (1) Get access to the APU fuel line installed in the center tank and installed between FR42 and FR46.
     (a) You must obey the safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
     (b) Make sure the center tank is defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
     (c) Make sure the main door of the left main gear is open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001) .
     (d) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position under the main door of the left main gear.
     (e) Make sure the manhole cover 147AZ is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-22-47-210-050-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
   (2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
Subtask 28-22-47-420-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the APU fuel line
   (1) Install the pipe (32) and the elbow (28) as follows:
NOTE: To do this task, one person must be in the tank and the other person must stay near the tank.
     (a) Lubricate the O-rings (29), (30), (31) and (33) with the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
     (b) Carefully put the pipe (32) into the fuel tank.
     (c) Install the new AIPC 28-22-05-01-040 O-RING (29) on the elbow (28).
     (d) Install the new
AIPC 28-22-05-01-060 O-RING (30) on the elbow (28).
     (e) Install the new
AIPC 28-22-05-01-050 O-RING (31) on the elbow (28).
     (f) Install the new
AIPC 28-22-05-01-010 O-RING (33) on the pipe (32).
     (g) Put the elbow (28) over the pipe (32).
     (h) Attach the elbow (28) to the upper box with the bolts (27), the washers (23) and the nuts (22).
     (i) Attach the bonding lead (24) to the elbow (28) with the washer (25) and the bolt (26) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (2) Install the pipe assembly (14) and the elbow (6) as follows:
     (a) Hold the pipe assembly (14) in position and tighten the nut (15).
     (b) Lubricate the O-ring (7) with the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
     (c) Lubricate the O-ring (39) with the Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) .
     (d) Install the new AIPC 28-22-05-01-010 O-RING (7) on the elbow (6).
     (e) Install the new
AIPC 28-22-05-01-020 O-RING (39) on the elbow (6).
     (f) Hold the elbow (6) in position and tighten the nut (36).
     (g) Attach the elbow (6) to the APU LP fuel valve with the nuts (1).
     (h) Connect the bonding lead (3) to the elbow (6) and install the bolt (37) and the nut (38) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (i) Apply a thin layer of the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) to the inner surface of the clamps (4), (10), (12) and (21).
     (j) Install the clamps (4), (10), (12) and (21) as follows:
  • The clamp (4) on the elbow (6)
  • The clamps (10) and (12) on the pipe assembly (14)
  • The clamp (21) on the pipe (32).
     (k) Connect the bonding lead (17) to the clamp (21) and install:
     (l) Connect the bonding lead (34) to the clamp (12) and install the bolt (35) and the nut (13) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (m) Connect the bonding lead (9) to the clamp (10) and install the bolt (8) and the nut (11) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (n) Connect the bonding leads (3) and (9) to the clamp (4) and install the bolt (2) and the nut (5) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (3) Install the inner hose assembly (2) between FR41 and FR48 as follows:
CAUTION: YOU MUST USE TWO WRENCHES AND HOLD THE COMPONENT WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL THE PIPE COUPLINGS AND/OR UNIONS. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT.
     (a) Connect the APU fuel line between FR47 and FR48 as follows:
F APU Fuel Line ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
NOTE: The procedure to connect the APU fuel line between FR47 and FR48 is given. This procedure is typical for the other sections of the APU fuel line until FR70.
       1 Put the APU fuel line in position and hand tighten the nut (2).
       2 TORQUE the nuts (2) to between 5.31 and 4.85 m.daN (39.16 and 35.77 lbf.ft ) T.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       3 Safety the nuts (2) with the 14QEB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.6 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
       4 Remove the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
       5 Apply a thin layer of the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.
03FAB1) to the inner surface of the clamps (12) and (16).
       6 Install the clamps (12) and (16) on the fuel hose components (11) with:
  • The bolts (13)
  • The washers (15)
  • The nuts (14).
     (b) Install the 98D28207510000 SLIDE CONE - APU FUEL on the other end of the inner hose assembly (2).
     (c) Install the inner hose assembly (2) through FR47 until FR46 as follows:
       1 Along the inner hose assembly (2) install:
     (d) Install the inner hose assembly (2) through FR46 until FR42 as follows:
       1 At FR42, install the attachment ring (3) along the inner hose assembly (2).
     (e) Install the inner hose assembly (2) through FR42 until FR41 as follows:
       1 Install the outer hose assembly (1) along the inner hose assembly (2) through FR42 until FR46.
       2 Lubricate the O-ring (13) with the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
       3 Install the new AIPC 28-22-04-02-060 O-RING (13) on the outer hose assembly (1).
       4 Install the reducing sleeve (7) on the outer hose assembly (1).
       5 Make sure that the outer hose assembly (1) goes 20 +3 mm or -3 mm (0.7874 +0.1181 in. or -0.1181 in.) into the reducing sleeve (7).
       6 Remove the
98D28207510000 SLIDE CONE - APU FUEL from the inner hose assembly (2).
       7 Hold the inner hose assembly (2) in position and hand tighten the nut (6).
       8 TORQUE the nut (6) to between 5.31 and 4.85 m.daN (39.16 and 35.77 lbf.ft ) T.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       9 Safety the nut (6) with 14QEB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.6 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
       10 Attach the reducing sleeve (7) to the elbow (28) in the upper box.
Subtask 28-22-47-420-052-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the APU fuel line
   (1) Install the pipe (29) and the elbow (25) as follows:
NOTE: To do this task, one person must be in the tank and the other person must stay near the tank.
     (a) Lubricate the O-rings (26), (27), (28), and (30) with the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
     (b) Carefully put the pipe (29) into the fuel tank.
     (c) Install the new AIPC 28-22-05-01-040 O-RING (26) on the elbow (25).
     (d) Install the new
AIPC 28-22-05-01-060 O-RING (27) on the elbow (25).
     (e) Install the new
AIPC 28-22-05-01-050 O-RING (28) on the elbow (25).
     (f) Install the new
AIPC 28-22-05-01-010 O-RING (30) on the pipe (29).
     (g) Put the elbow (25) over the pipe (29).
     (h) Attach the elbow (25) to the upper box with the bolts (24), the washers (23) and the nuts (22).
   (2) Install the pipe assembly (14) and the elbow (6) as follows:
     (a) Hold the pipe assembly (14) in position and tighten the nut (15).
     (b) Lubricate the O-ring (7) with the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
     (c) Lubricate the O-ring (36) with the Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) .
     (d) Install the new AIPC 28-22-05-01-010 O-RING (7) on the elbow (6).
     (e) Install the new
AIPC 28-22-05-01-020 O-RING (36) on the elbow (6).
     (f) Hold the elbow (6) in position and tighten the nut (33).
     (g) Attach the elbow (6) to the APU LP fuel valve with the nuts (1).
     (h) Connect the bonding lead (3) to the elbow (6) and install the bolt (34) and the nut (35) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (i) Apply a thin layer of the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) to the inner surface of the clamps (4), (10), (12) and (21).
     (j) Install the clamps (4), (10), (12) and (21) as follows:
  • The clamp (4) on the elbow (6)
  • The clamps (10) and (12) on the pipe assembly (14)
  • The clamp (21) on the pipe (29).
     (k) Connect the bonding lead (17) to the clamp (21) and install the:
     (l) Connect the bonding lead (31) to the clamp (12) and install the bolt (32) and the nut (13) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (m) Connect the bonding lead (9) to the clamp (10) and install the bolt (8) and the nut (11) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (n) Connect the bonding leads (3) and (9) to the clamp (4) and install bolt (2) and the nut (5) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (3) Install the inner hose assembly (2) between FR41 and FR48 as follows:
CAUTION: YOU MUST USE TWO WRENCHES AND HOLD THE COMPONENT WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL THE PIPE COUPLINGS AND/OR UNIONS. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT.
     (a) Connect the APU fuel line between FR47 and FR48 as follows:

NOTE: The procedure to connect the APU fuel line between FR47 and FR48 is given. This procedure is typical for the other sections of the APU fuel line until FR70.
       1 Move the coupling sleeves (17) along the APU fuel line components (11).
       2 Put the APU fuel line in position and hand tighten the nut (2).
       3 TORQUE the nuts (2) to between 5.31 and 4.85 m.daN (39.16 and 35.77 lbf.ft ) T.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       4 Safety the nuts (2) with the 14QEB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.6 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
       5 Remove the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
       6 Apply a thin layer of the Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.
03FAB1) to the inner surface of the clamps (12) and (16).
       7 Install the clamps (12) and (16) on the fuel hose components (11) with:
  • The bolts (13)
  • The washers (15)
  • The nuts (14).
     (b) Install the 98D28207510000 SLIDE CONE - APU FUEL on the other end of the inner hose assembly (2).
     (c) Install the inner hose assembly (2) through FR47 until FR46 as follows:
       1 Along the inner hose assembly (2) put:

   (7) Install the clamps (16) on the drain pipe (5) as follows:
     (a) Put the clamps (16) in position and install the bolts (14) and the washers (15).

   (8) Put the drain pipe (4) in position and tighten the nut (25) on the union (23) of the drain pipe (5).
   (9) Install the clamps (16) on the drain pipe (4) as follows:
     (a) Put the applicable spacers (18) and (19) and the clamps (16) in position and install the bolts (14), the washers (15) and the applicable nut (17).
     (b) Tighten the bolts (14) and the applicable nut (17).
   (10) Put the drain pipe (3) in position and tighten the nut (25) of the drain pipe (4) on the union (23) of the drain pipe (3).
   (11) Install the clamps (16) on the drain pipe (3) as follows:

     (f) Install the clamps (20) and (30) on the outer hose assembly (1) between the FR42 and FR46.
     (g) Install the bonding straps (24) on the clamps (20) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (h) Attach the clamps (20) to the angle assemblies (23) with the bolts (21) and the washers (22).
     (i) Attach the clamps (30) to the angle assemblies (33) with the bolts (31) and the washers (32).
   (2) Install the elbow assemblies (9) and (17) between FR46 and FR47 as follows:

     (h) Attach the clamps (20) to the angle assemblies (23) with the bolts (21) and the washers (22).

   (1) If fuel fell on aircraft components or the structure, do the procedure for cleaning after a fuel leakage (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-615-002).
   (2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (3) For the APU fuel line between FR41 and FR42.
     (a) Install the floor panel 241HL (Ref. AMM TASK 53-32-12-400-002).
   (4) For the APU fuel line between FR42 and FR46.
     (a) Remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT).
     (b) Close the LH main landing-gear door 734 (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
   (5) For the APU fuel line between FR46 and FR70.
     (a) Install the applicable access panels for the APU fuel line:
  • between the FR46 and FR47
    install 151BW
  • between the FR47 and FR47.4
    install 151RW
  • between the FR47.4 and FR49
    install 151CW
  • between the FR49 and FR52
    install 151DW
  • between the FR52 and FR55
    install 151EW
  • between the FR55 and FR58
    install 151HW
  • between the FR58 and FR59
    install 151JW
  • between the FR59 and FR62
    install 161AW
  • between the FR62 and FR63
    install 161BW
  • between the FR63 and FR65
    install 161CW
  • between the FR65 and FR70

   (6) For the APU fuel line between FR46 and FR70.
     (a) Close the AFT cargo-compartment door (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
   (7) For the APU fuel line aft of FR70.
     (a) Set the light switch to off.
     (b) Close the applicable access panels for the APU fuel line:
   (8) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (9) Remove the access platform(s).
   (10) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
