3. Job Set-up
Subtask 28-22-43-860-050-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) When you do maintenance work on the fuel system you must obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) On the APU section of the overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the APU MASTER SW is in the off/released position (the ON legend is off).
   (3) On the FUEL overhead panel 40VU, make sure that the L TK PUMPS and the R TK PUMPS pushbutton switches are released (the OFF legends are on).
   (4) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position:
  • on the overhead panel 25VU, to tell persons not to push the APU MASTER SW,
  • on the FUEL overhead panel 40VU, to tell persons not to operate the fuel system,
  • on the FIRE panel 25VU, to tell persons not to operate the APU fire extinguishing system.
   (5) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE is in position below the APU compartment.
   (6) Make sure that the APU access doors 315AL 316AR are open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
   (7) Make sure that there is a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the vent and drain valve (2).

4. Procedure
Subtask 28-22-43-420-050-A
A. Installation of the Vent and Drain Valve (5040QM).
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Make sure that the component interfaces areas are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Remove the PLUG - BLANKING, PLASTIC from the vent and drain valve (2).
   (4) If necessary, clean the threads of the vent and drain valve (2) with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-Turbine Engine Naphtha and hexane - (Material No.08BJP1) . Dry them with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (5) Examine the vent and drain valve (2). Make sure that the threads are in the correct condition.
NOTE: Replace the vent and drain valve if you find that the threads are not in the correct condition.
   (6) Apply Dry lubricant-General Assembly - - (Material No.03QBA1) on the threads of the vent and drain valve (2).
   (7) Apply a layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) on a new AIPC 28-22-04-11-260 O-RING (1) or AIPC 28-22-84-11-310 O-RING (1).
   (8) Install the O-ring (1) on the vent and drain valve (2).
   (9) Install the vent and drain valve (2)
CAUTION: YOU MUST USE TWO WRENCHES AND HOLD THE COMPONENT WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL THE PIPE COUPLINGS AND/OR UNIONS. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT.
   (10) TORQUE the vent and drain valve (2) to between 5.31 and 4.86 m.daN (39.16 and 35.84 lbf.ft )

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (11) Safety the vent and drain valve (2) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (12) Install the blanking plug (3) on the vent and drain valve (2) and tighten it with your hands.

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

C. Leak Test
   (1) Do the operational test of the APU fuel-pump system on ground to purge the fuel line (
Ref. AMM TASK 28-22-00-710-001).
   (2) Do the operational test of the APU fuel low pressure circuit
   (3) Examine the connections for leaks.
NOTE: Leaks are not permitted.
5. Close-up
Subtask 28-22-43-410-050-A
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the APU access doors 315AL 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
