Installation of the Fuel Pump Strainer

(1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001) when you do work in a fuel tank. (2) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the center tank and the applicable wing fuel tank are defuelled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
(2) Make sure that the remaining fuel has been drained from the applicable wing fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is below the applicable access panel 540AB(640AB).
(4) Make sure that the applicable access panel 540AB(640AB) is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001).
(5) Make sure that the applicable surge door is open:
(a) FOR [6QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK INR), [8QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK OUTR)
the surge door 540BZ(640BZ)
(b) FOR [5QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK OUTR), [7QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK INR)
the surge door 540AZ(640AZ).
(6) Make sure that the applicable tool is on the surge door:
Subtask 28-21-54-860-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the center tank and the applicable wing fuel tank are defuelled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
(2) Make sure that the remaining fuel has been drained from the applicable wing fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is below the applicable access panel 540AB(640AB).
(4) Make sure that the applicable access panel 540AB(640AB) is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001).
(5) Make sure that the applicable surge door is open:
(a) FOR [6QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK INR), [8QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK OUTR)
the surge door 540BZ(640BZ)
(b) FOR [5QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK OUTR), [7QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK INR)
the surge door 540AZ(640AZ).
(6) Make sure that the applicable tool is on the surge door:
- For 540BZ(640BZ) the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS)
- For 540AZ(640AZ) the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the center tank and the applicable wing fuel tank are defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
(2) Make sure that the remaining fuel has been drained from the applicable wing fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below the applicable access panels that follow:
(a) FOR [5QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK OUTR), [6QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK INR)
Below 540AB.
(b) FOR [7QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK INR), [8QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK OUTR)
Below 640AB.
(4) Make sure that the applicable access panels are removed that follow:
(a) FOR [5QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK OUTR), [6QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK INR)
Remove 540AB (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001).
(b) FOR [7QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK INR), [8QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK OUTR)
Remove 640AB (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001).
(5) Make sure that the applicable RIB2 access panels are removed that follow:
(a) FOR [5QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK OUTR), [7QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK INR)
Remove 540AZ ( 640AZ) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).

Remove 540BZ ( 640BZ) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the center tank and the applicable wing fuel tank are defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
(2) Make sure that the remaining fuel has been drained from the applicable wing fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below the applicable access panels that follow:
(a) FOR [5QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK OUTR), [6QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK INR)
Below 540AB.

(4) Make sure that the applicable access panels are removed that follow:

Remove 540AB (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001).

A. Preparation for Installation
(1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent areas with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(4) Lubricate the new AIPC 28-21-05-28-160 O-RING (2) with Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) or Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
Subtask 28-21-54-420-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent areas with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .

(2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(4) Lubricate the new AIPC 28-21-05-28-160 O-RING (2) or AIPC 28-21-85-23-200 O-RING (2) with Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
B. Installation of the Fuel Pump Strainer
(1) Put the strainer (15) in position on the bracket (10) and install the bolts (9).
(2) Install a new O-ring (2) on the fuel pipe (1).
(3) Install the nut (4) and the retaining ring (3) on the fuel pipe (1).
(4) Install the filter connector (5) on the strainer (15) with the bolts (6).
(5) Install the fuel pipe (1) in the filter connector (5). Tighten the nut (4) onto the filter connector (5) to keep the fuel pipe (1) in position.
(6) Position the cowls (12) and (7) on the bracket (10) and install the three bolts (13).
(7) Install the two bolts (8).
(8) Position the bonding tab (11) on the cowl (12) and install the bolt (14) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
(9) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the bolts (6), (8), (9) and (13).
5. Close-up(1) Put the strainer (15) in position on the bracket (10) and install the bolts (9).
(2) Install a new O-ring (2) on the fuel pipe (1).
(3) Install the nut (4) and the retaining ring (3) on the fuel pipe (1).
(4) Install the filter connector (5) on the strainer (15) with the bolts (6).
(5) Install the fuel pipe (1) in the filter connector (5). Tighten the nut (4) onto the filter connector (5) to keep the fuel pipe (1) in position.
(6) Position the cowls (12) and (7) on the bracket (10) and install the three bolts (13).
(7) Install the two bolts (8).
(8) Position the bonding tab (11) on the cowl (12) and install the bolt (14) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
(9) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the bolts (6), (8), (9) and (13).
Subtask 28-21-54-410-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the applicable tool 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) or 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).
(3) Close the applicable fuel-surge access door 540AZ 640AZ 540BZ 640BZ.
(4) Install the applicable access panel 540AB 640AB (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001).
Subtask 28-21-54-410-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the applicable tool 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) or 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).
(3) Close the applicable fuel-surge access door 540AZ 640AZ 540BZ 640BZ.
(4) Install the applicable access panel 540AB 640AB (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001).
A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the applicable RIB2 access panels that follow:
(a) FOR [5QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK OUTR), [7QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK INR)
Install 540AZ ( 640AZ) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002).
(b) FOR [6QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK INR), [8QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, R WING TK OUTR)
Install 540BZ ( 640BZ) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002).
(3) Install the applicable access panels that follow:
(a) FOR [5QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK OUTR), [6QM] (STRAINER-PUMP INLET, L WING TK INR)
Install 540AB (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001).

(1) Refuel, defuel or transfer fuel as applicable (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003), (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001).

D. Removal of Equipment
(1) Remove the safety barriers.
(2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
