Installation of the Fuel Pump Canister


WARNING: THIS PROCEDURE USES A FUEL SYSTEM ITEM THAT IS IN A CATEGORY KNOWN AS A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL). CDCCL IDENTIFIES AN ITEM THAT CAN BE THE SOURCE OF A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK IGNITION. YOU MUST KEEP ALL CDCCL ITEMS IN THE APPROVED CONFIGURATION. DAMAGE, WEAR OR CHANGES TO A CDCCL ITEM CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FLIGHT CONTROL SAFETY-LOCKS AND THE WARNING NOTICES ARE IN POSITION.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
   (2) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (3) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear doors.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE CROSSFEED VALVE, MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL PUMP(S) IS(ARE) OFF. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CROSSFEED VALVE.
   (2) Make sure that the crossfeed valve is closed.
   (3) Make sure that the center tank and applicable wing tanks are defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (4) Make sure that the remaining fuel is drained from the center tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
   (5) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
   (6) Make sure that the applicable Mail Landing Gear (MLG) door 734 ( 744) is open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
   (7) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is installed on the applicable MLG door actuator.
   (8) Make sure that an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) is below the applicable access panel 147AZ or 148AZ.
   (9) Make sure that the applicable access panel 147AZ or 148AZ is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-21-52-560-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for a Replacement Component
   (1) Remove the plug (25).
   (2) Remove and discard the O-ring (24).
   (3) Lubricate the new AIPC 28-21-05-01-125 O-RING (3) with Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) or Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) .
   (4) Install the new O-ring (3).
   (5) Install the reducer (2).
   (6) Install the stud (8) and the nut (6).

B. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent areas with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Lubricate the new items that follow with Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) or Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) :
Subtask 28-21-52-420-054-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Installation of Fuel Pump Cannister 84QM (85QM)
   (1) Install the new sealing ring (23) and the new O-rings (7) and (18).
   (2) Put the canister (4) in position and engage the connectors (13) and (17) on the canister (4).
   (3) Install the bolts (19) and the washers (20) on the canister (4):
     (a) You must bond one of the bolts (19) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (4) TORQUE the bolts (19) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in ) T.
   (5) Make sure that one of the bolts (19) is correctly bonded:
WARNING: THIS INSTRUCTION IS APPLICABLE TO A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL) ITEM. CAREFULLY OBEY ALL GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU DO THIS STEP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, A DANGEROUS CONDITION CAN OCCUR THAT CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION.
     (a) Do a bonding check of one of the bolts (19) (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802). The bonding resistance must be less than 10 milliohms.
   (6) Install the connector (17) on the canister (4) with the bolts (16), the washers (21) and the nuts (22).
   (7) Put the bracket (9) in position and install it on the connector (13) with the bolts (12) and the nuts (5) and (10).
   (8) Install the pipe (1).
   (9) Install the bonding strap (11) on the connector (13) with the washer (15) and the bolt (14) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (10) Make sure that the bonding strap (11) is correctly bonded:
WARNING: THIS INSTRUCTION IS APPLICABLE TO A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL) ITEM. CAREFULLY OBEY ALL GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU DO THIS STEP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, A DANGEROUS CONDITION CAN OCCUR THAT CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION.
     (a) Do a bonding check between the bonding strap (11) and the canister (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802). The bonding resistance must be less than 10 milliohms.
5. Close-up
Subtask 28-21-52-410-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the applicable center-tank access-panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001):
     (a) FOR [84QM] (CANISTER-FUEL PUMP, L CTR TK)
install 147AZ
     (b) FOR [85QM] (CANISTER-FUEL PUMP, R CTR TK)
install 148AZ.
   (3) Install the applicable fuel pump 37QA(38QA) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-51-400-002).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
   (5) Close the applicable MLG door (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).

B. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Refuel, defuel or transfer fuel as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003), (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001).

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the safety barriers.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
