E. Installation of the Outboard Fuel-Pump Fairing
Install the outboard fuel-pump fairing in this sequence:
  • The intermediate fairing (18)
  • The rear fairing (17)
  • The front fairing (26) and the cover plate (24) assembly.
NOTE: Sealant is not used between the fairings (17), (18) and (26) and the lower wing skin.
   (1) Before you install the fairings, make sure that the length of the harness (25) is correct:
     (a) Measure the distance between the front face of the connector (36) and the forward edge of the guide (30).
     (b) The correct length of the outboard harness must be 1345 mm (52.95 in.).
   (2) If necessary, adjust the length of the harness (25) as follows:
     (a) Loosen the nuts (31), the bolts (32) and the clamp (33) on the bracket (34) and the guide (30).
     (b) Carefully move the harness (25) through the guide (30), the clamp (33) and the conduit (35) to get the correct length.
   (3) Install the intermediate fairing (18) as follows:
     (a) Hold the intermediate fairing (18) in position near the lower wing skin.
     (b) Carefully push the harness (25) into the retention channel in the intermediate fairing (18).
     (c) Make sure that the harness (25) is held correctly below the lips of the retention channel in the intermediate fairing (18):
1 Make sure that the harness (25) is not in tension.
     (d) Engage the key-hole slots in the intermediate fairing (18) with the wing skin bolts (19).
     (e) Move the intermediate fairing (18) forward to fully engage the wing skin bolts (19).
     (f) Make sure that the harness (25) is not caught between:
  • The key-hole slot positions on the intermediate fairing (18) and the wing skin
  • The edge of the intermediate fairing (18) and the wing skin.
   (4) Install the rear fairing (17) as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the intermediate fairing (18) is correctly installed and pushed tightly against its stop.
     (b) Hold the rear fairing (17) in position near the lower wing skin.
     (c) Carefully push the harness (25) into the retention channel in the rear fairing (17).
     (d) Make sure that the harness (25) is held correctly below the lips of the retention channel in the rear fairing (17):
1 Make sure that the harness (25) is not in tension.
     (e) Pull the harness (25) lightly in a rearward direction.
     (f) If necessary, push unwanted harness up through the guide (30) and the clamp (33) into the conduit (35).
     (g) Engage the key-hole slots in the rear fairing (17) with the wing skin bolt (19).
     (h) Move the rear fairing (17) forward to fully engage the wing skin bolt (19).
     (i) Make sure that the:
  • Forward end of the rear fairing (17) goes into the intermediate fairing (18) (out of wind).
  • Harness (25) is not caught between the key-hole slot positions on the rear fairing (17) and the wing skin.
  • Harness (25) is not caught between the edge of the rear fairing (17) and the wing skin.
     (j) Make sure that there is a clearance of 3.0 mm (0.12 in.) to 4.0 mm (0.16 in.) between the rear fairing (17) and the intermediate fairing (18).
     (k) If necessary, cut and de-burr the overlap at the rear of the intermediate fairing (18) to get the correct dimension.
     (l) Install the bush (15), the bolt (16) and the nut (14).
     (m) TORQUE the nut (14) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )
T.
     (n) Fill the clearance between the rear fairing (17) and intermediate fairing (18) with Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.
06AAB1) .
   (5) Install the front fairing (26) and the cover plate (24) assembly as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the intermediate fairing (18) and the rear fairing (17) are correctly installed.
     (b) If the front fairing (26) and the cover plate (24) have been disassembled, continue as follows:
1 Loosely assemble the front fairing (26) to the cover plate (24) with the washer (22), the bolt (23) and the bush (27).
2 Loosely assemble the cover plate (24) with the front fairing (26) to the wing skin with the bolts (21).
3 Make sure that the front fairing (26) aligns with the intermediate fairing (18).
4 Use a PENCIL - WAX to make marks on the cover plate (24) around the edge of the front fairing (26).
5 Remove the bolts (21) and the cover plate (24) with the front fairing (26).
6 Remove the bolt (23), the washer (22) and the bush (27).
7 Remove the front fairing (26) from the cover plate (24).
8 Apply Release Agent-- Water Base - (Material No.14DAB1) on the mating surface of the front fairing (26):
a Do not apply the special material on the surface of the front fairing that will touch the wing skin.
9 Apply a small quantity of Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) on the mating surfaces of the front fairing (26) and the cover plate (24):
a Do not apply the sealant on the surface of the front fairing that will touch the wing skin.
10 Install the front fairing (26) onto the cover plate (24) with the washer (22), the bolt (23) and the bush (27).
11 Make sure that the front fairing (26) aligns with the match marks you made on the cover plate (24).
NOTE: You can refer to the match marks made on the cover plate (24) to install the front fairing (26).
       12 TORQUE the bolt (23) to between 0.10 and 0.08 m.daN (8.85 and 7.08 lbf.in ) T.
13 Do the step that follows before the sealant has cured:
a Use the sealant pushed out from between the front fairing (26) and the cover plate (24) to make a fillet seal:
  • Clean the unwanted sealant from the front fairing and the cover plate assembly to make a smooth surface.
  • Make sure that the sealant does not cause a blockage in the drain hole (20).
     (c) Hold the front fairing (26) and the cover plate (24) assembly in position on the wing skin:
1 Make sure that the harness (25) does not rub against the edges of the cover plate (24).
