3. Job Set-up
Subtask 28-21-00-941-070-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
Subtask 28-21-00-860-076-A
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CIRCUITS IN MAINTENANCE ARE ISOLATED BEFORE YOU SUPPLY ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIRCRAFT. UNWANTED ELECTRICAL POWER CAN BE DANGEROUS.
WARNING: OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
   (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (2) Do the EIS start procedure (ECAM only) (Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001), then:

  • on the ECAM control panel (CP), push (in) the FUEL push icon switch
  • make sure that the FUEL page shows on the ECAM lower Display Unit (DU).
   (3) Make sure that the opposite wing tank contains sufficient fuel for the test. If necessary refuel (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).
   (4) On the panel 40VU:
  • push (in) the X-FEED P/BSW.
4. Procedure
WARNING: WHEN YOU OPERATE THE FUEL PUMPS DURING A MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, A MAINTENANCE PERSON MUST BE IN THE COCKPIT. THIS PERSON MUST STOP THE PUMPS WHEN THE LOW PRESSURE FAULT LIGHT(S) (ON PANEL 40VU) COME ON, TO PREVENT OPERATION OF THE PUMPS(S) WITHOUT FUEL ('DRY RUNNING'). OPERATION OF THE PUMPS WITHOUT FUEL CAN CAUSE A FIRE.
NOTE: The wing-tank fuel-pump suction valves have a controlled fuel leak rate when in the closed position. The fuel flow (controlled leak) is to prevent the formation of ice in the mouth of the suction valve. The fuel flow is only from the center tank to the wing tank. The maximum permitted flow is 210 kg (463 lb/Hour).
Subtask 28-21-00-790-050-B
A. Leak Test of the Main Fuel-Pump-System Pipelines (Left Wing, Fuselage and Center Tank)
ACTION
RESULT
1.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches OFF lights go off
  • The R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches FAULT lights come on momentarily and then go off.
2.On the lower ECAM System Display (SD) FUEL page:
  • Wait for two minutes to let the fuel tank levels become stable.
On the lower ECAM SD FUEL page:
  • The fuel tank levels are stable.
NOTE: There may be small gauge fluctuations that should be taken into account.
3.On the lower ECAM SD FUEL page:
  • Monitor the fuel level in all tanks for 30 minutes, to make sure that the pipework does not leak.
On the lower ECAM SD FUEL page:
  • The fuel quantity in the tanks do not increase.
4.If the fuel quantity in the tanks increases, stop the test.
Find the indication of the fuel leakage and repair the leak.
Do the test again.

5.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Release (out) the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches OFF lights come on.
