A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position on the flight deck to tell persons not to operate the main booster pumps or crossfeed valve.
Subtask 28-21-00-010-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Get Access
   (1) Open the access door 192MB.
NOTE: If operating in battery power:
  • put the MODE SELECT switch to the OFF and guarded position
  • do not keep the door open longer than necessary because the battery can discharge.

B. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) in position below zone 622.
   (2) Open the access door 622KB.
NOTE: If operating in battery power:
  • put the MODE SELECT switch to the OFF and guarded position
  • do not keep the door open longer than necessary because the battery can discharge.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CIRCUITS IN MAINTENANCE ARE ISOLATED BEFORE YOU SUPPLY ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIRCRAFT. UNWANTED ELECTRICAL POWER CAN BE DANGEROUS.
   (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (2) Do the EIS start procedure (upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)
(Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001), then:
  • On the ECAM control panel, push (in) the FUEL pushbutton switch and make sure that the FUEL page is shown on the ECAM lower Display Unit (DU).
   (3) Refuel (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003), defuel (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001) or transfer fuel (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001) as necessary to get these quantities:
  • The left wing and the right wing tank inner-cells contain a minimum of 1000 kg (2204.6220 lb) and a maximum of 4300 kg (9479.8746 lb).
Subtask 28-21-00-860-091-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

  • The center tank contains a minimum fuel quantity of 1000 kg (2204.6220 lb)
  • The left wing and the right wing tank inner-cells contain a minimum of 1000 kg (2204.6220 lb) and maximum of 4300 kg (9479.8746 lb).
4. Procedure
WARNING: WHEN YOU OPERATE THE FUEL PUMPS DURING A MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, A MAINTENANCE PERSON MUST BE IN THE COCKPIT. THIS PERSON MUST STOP THE PUMPS WHEN THE LOW PRESSURE FAULT LIGHT(S) (ON PANEL 40VU) COME ON, TO PREVENT OPERATION OF THE PUMPS(S) WITHOUT FUEL ('DRY RUNNING'). OPERATION OF THE PUMPS WITHOUT FUEL CAN CAUSE A FIRE.

A. Operational Test of the Wing-Tank Pump-Canister Check-Valves
NOTE: This test is for check valves 149QM, 150QM, 151QM and 152QM installed in the left and right wing-tank fuel-pump-canisters.

   (1) Do the test that follows:

ACTION
RESULT
1.On refuel/defuel control-panel 800VU:
  • Make sure that the REFUEL VALVES switches are in the NORM and guarded position.
  • Make sure that the MODE SELECT switch is in the OFF and guarded position.

CAUTION: BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE CROSSFEED VALVE, MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL PUMP(S) IS(ARE) OFF. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CROSSFEED VALVE.
2.On fuel panel 40VU:
  • Release (out) the X FEED pushbutton switch.
On fuel panel 40VU:
  • The X FEED pushbutton switch is ON and the OPEN lights are off.

On the ECAM lower DU:

  • The CTR TK pump indicator shows that the pumps are on (green in-line).

    After 20 mins:
  • The fuel quantities in the left (right) wing tank and the center tank stay the same.

    or

  • If the fuel quantity in the left (right) wing tank increases by more than 50 kg (110.2311 lb) (with a decrease of fuel in the center tank), one or two of the check valve(s) in the left (right) wing-tank fuel-pump canister(s) is (are) defective.
