A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
   (2) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.
   (3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (4) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap/slat control lever.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the applicable fuel tank is defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (2) Make sure that the remaining fuel has been drained from the applicable fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
Subtask 28-18-51-010-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable zone 540(640).
   (2) Remove the applicable access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002):
  • For the LH wing pump-canisters, remove 540AB
  • For the RH wing pump-canisters, remove 640AB.
   (3) Open the fuel-surge access doors on Rib 2 as follows:
     (a) Open FWD fuel-surge door 540AZ ( 640AZ) and hold it in position with a 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
     (b) Open AFT fuel-surge door 540BZ ( 640BZ) and hold it in position with a 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).
Subtask 28-18-51-010-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable zone 540(640).
   (2) Remove the applicable access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002):
  • for the LH wing pump canisters remove 540AB
  • for the RH wing pump canisters remove 640AB
  • for the center tank pump canisters remove 147AZ 148AZ.
   (3) Open the fuel-surge access doors on Rib 2 as follows:
     (a) Open the FWD fuel-surge door 540AZ(640AZ) and hold it in position with the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
     (b) Open the AFT fuel-surge door 540BZ(640BZ) and hold it in position with the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable zone 540 (640).
   (2) Remove the applicable access panels that follow:
   (3) Remove the applicable RIB2 access panels that follow:
     (a) For the left wing pump-canisters, remove 540BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).
     (b) For the right wing pump-canisters, remove 640BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-18-51-210-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. General Visual Inspection of Fuel Pump Canisters
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the fuel pump canisters as follows:
F Wing Fuel Pump Canisters ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F Wing Fuel Pump Canisters ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F Wing Fuel Pump-Canisters ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Use a LIGHT SOURCE - SPARK-PROOF and a MIRROR - INSPECTION, FLEXIBLE to examine all of the fuel pump canisters. Make sure that:
  • There is no sign of damage to the canister housing
  • The fuel pipe joints are in good condition
  • All the fuel-pipe joint fasteners are correctly installed.
     (b) Replace all the pump canisters that are not in the correct condition:
       1 FOR [1QM] (CANISTER-FUEL PUMP, L WING TK OUTR), [4QM] (CANISTER-FUEL PUMP, R WING TANK OUTER)
(Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-52-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-52-400-001)
       2 FOR [2QM] (CANISTER-FUEL PUMP, L WING TK INR), [3QM] (CANISTER-FUEL PUMP, R WING TK INR)
(Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-52-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-52-400-002).
Subtask 28-18-51-210-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. General Visual Inspection of Fuel Pump Canisters
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the fuel pump canisters as follows:

F Wing Fuel Pump Canisters ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F Center Tank Fuel Pump Canisters ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Use a LIGHT SOURCE - SPARK-PROOF and MIRROR - INSPECTION, FLEXIBLE to examine all of the fuel pump canisters. Make sure that:
  • there is no sign of damage to the canister housing
  • the fuel pipe joints are in good condition
  • all fuel pipe joint fasteners are correctly installed.
     (b) Replace all pump canisters that are not in the correct condition:

       3 FOR [84QM] (CANISTER-FUEL PUMP, L CTR TK), [85QM] (CANISTER-FUEL PUMP, R CTR TK)
(Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-52-000-003) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-21-52-400-003).
5. Close-up
Subtask 28-18-51-410-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) and close FWD fuel-surge door 540AZ ( 640AZ).
   (3) Remove the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS) and close AFT fuel-surge door 540BZ ( 640BZ).
   (4) Install the applicable access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001):
  • For the LH wing, install 540AB
  • For the RH wing, install 640AB.
   (5) Remove the access platform(s).
Subtask 28-18-51-410-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) and close FWD fuel-surge door 540AZ ( 640AZ).
   (3) Remove the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS) and close AFT fuel-surge door 540BZ ( 640BZ).
   (4) Install the applicable access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001):
  • For the LH wing, install 540AB
  • For the RH wing, install 640AB
  • For the center tank, install 147AZ 148AZ.
   (5) Remove the access platform(s).
Subtask 28-18-51-410-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the applicable RIB2 access panels that follow:
     (a) For the left wing pump-canisters, install 540BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002).
     (b) For the right wing pump-canisters, install 640BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002).
   (3) Install the applicable access panels that follow:
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).

B. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Refuel or transfer fuel as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003) or (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001).

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
   (2) Remove the SAFETY BARRIERS.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
