A. Safety Precautions

(4) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap/slat control lever.
Subtask 28-18-44-650-050-A WARNING:
BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
(1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001). (2) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.
(3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
(4) Install the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS on the flap/slat control lever.
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Defuel the applicable fuel tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
(2) Drain the remaining fuel from the applicable fuel tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
Subtask 28-18-44-010-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Defuel the applicable fuel tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
(2) Drain the remaining fuel from the applicable fuel tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).
C. Get Access
(1) Remove the applicable access panels:
(a) For the LH wing remove:
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable zone 540(640).
(3) Open the fuel-surge access doors on Rib 2 as follows:
(a) Open the FWD fuel-surge door 540AZ(640AZ) and hold it in position with the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
(b) Open the AFT fuel-surge door 540BZ(640BZ) and hold it in position with the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).
Subtask 28-18-44-010-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the applicable access panels:
(a) For the LH wing remove:
- 540AB 540BB 540CB 540DB 540EB 540FB 540GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002)
- 540HB 540JB 540KB 540LB 540MB 540NB 540PB 540QB 540RB, 550AB 550BB 550CB 550DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
- 640AB 640BB 640CB 640DB 640EB 640FB 640GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002)
- 640HB 640JB 640KB 640LB 640MB 640NB 640PB 640QB 640RB, 650AB 650BB 650CB 650DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable zone 540(640).
(3) Open the fuel-surge access doors on Rib 2 as follows:
(a) Open the FWD fuel-surge door 540AZ(640AZ) and hold it in position with the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS).
(b) Open the AFT fuel-surge door 540BZ(640BZ) and hold it in position with the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).
C. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable zone 540 (640).
(2) Remove the applicable access panels that follow:
(a) For the left wing:
(a) For the left wing, remove 540AZ and 540BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).
(b) For the right wing, remove 640AZ and 640BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).
4. Procedure(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable zone 540 (640).
(2) Remove the applicable access panels that follow:
(a) For the left wing:
- Remove 540AB, 540BB, 540CB, 540DB, 540EB, 540FB and 540GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002)
- Remove 540HB, 540JB, 540KB, 540LB, 540MB, 540NB, 540PB, 540QB, 540RB, 550AB, 550BB, 550CB and 550DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
- Remove 640AB, 640BB, 640CB, 640DB, 640EB, 640FB and 640GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002)
- Remove 640HB, 640JB, 640KB, 640LB, 640MB, 640NB, 640PB, 640QB, 640RB, 650AB, 650BB, 650CB and 650DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
- Remove 147AZ and 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(a) For the left wing, remove 540AZ and 540BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).
(b) For the right wing, remove 640AZ and 640BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-000-002).

Vent Surge Tank Harness - Location and Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (a) Use a LIGHT SOURCE - SPARK-PROOF to examine all of the tank wiring harnesses. Make sure that:
- there is no sign of wear or damage to the harness or harness connections
- there is no sign of corrosion on the harness connections
- the harness insulation is in good condition
- the harness clamps and brackets are all correctly installed.
NOTE: If wear or damage is found, refer to the Electrical Standard Practices Manual for data.
(2) Do a visual inspection of the fuel quantity probes as follows: NOTE: Do an inspection of all the fuel quantity probes in the bay that you are in. There will not be a fuel quantity probe in all bays of the fuel tanks.
(a) Use a LIGHT SOURCE - SPARK-PROOF to examine all of the fuel quantity probes. Make sure that: - there is no sign of damage to the probes
- there is no sign of corrosion on the probe connections
- the probe clamps and brackets are all correctly installed.
- for the wing tank probes (Ref. AMM TASK 28-42-15-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-42-15-400-001).
- for the center tank probes (Ref. AMM TASK 28-42-15-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-42-15-400-002).
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT ALL CABLES IN FUEL TANKS ARE CORRECTLY SUPPORTED (BY CLIPS AND OTHER SUPPORTS).

WARNING:

A. Close Access
(1) Remove the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) and close the FWD fuel-surge door 540AZ(640AZ).
(2) Remove the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS) and close the AFT fuel-surge door 540BZ(640BZ).
(3) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.
(4) Install the applicable access panels:
(a) For the LH wing install:
Subtask 28-18-44-410-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the 98D57004013000 HOOK-COVER (RIB 2 SURGE DOORS) and close the FWD fuel-surge door 540AZ(640AZ).
(2) Remove the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS) and close the AFT fuel-surge door 540BZ(640BZ).
(3) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.
(4) Install the applicable access panels:
(a) For the LH wing install:
- 540AB 540BB 540CB 540DB 540EB 540FB 540GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001)
- 540HB 540JB 540KB 540LB 540MB 540NB 540PB 540QB 540RB, 550AB 550BB 550CB 550DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-002).
- 640AB 640BB 640CB 640DB 640EB 640FB 640GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001)
- 640HB 640JB 640KB 640LB 640MB 640NB 640PB 640QB 640RB, 650AB 650BB 650CB 650DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-002).
A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the applicable RIB2 access panels that follow:
(a) For the left wing, install 540AZ and 540BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002).
(b) For the right wing, install 640AZ and 640BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002).
(3) Install the applicable access panels that follow:
(a) For the left wing:
Subtask 28-18-44-650-051-A Subtask 28-18-44-942-050-A (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the applicable RIB2 access panels that follow:
(a) For the left wing, install 540AZ and 540BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002).
(b) For the right wing, install 640AZ and 640BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-12-400-002).
(3) Install the applicable access panels that follow:
(a) For the left wing:
- Install 540AB, 540BB, 540CB, 540DB, 540EB, 540FB and 540GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001)
- Install 540HB, 540JB, 540KB, 540LB, 540MB, 540NB, 540PB, 540QB, 540RB, 550AB, 550BB, 550CB and 550DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-002).
- Install 640AB, 640BB, 640CB, 640DB, 640EB, 640FB and 640GB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001)
- Install 640HB, 640JB, 640KB, 640LB, 640MB, 640NB, 640PB, 640QB, 640RB, 650AB, 650BB, 650CB and 650DB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-002).
- Install 147AZ and 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001).
C. Removal of Equipment
(1) Remove the safety barriers.
(2) Remove the access platform(s).
(3) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
(4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
(1) Remove the safety barriers.
(2) Remove the access platform(s).
(3) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
(4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
