A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (3) On the panel 115VU, put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (4) On the throttle control lever, put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to activate the reverse system.

B. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the applicable wing tank has a minimum of 1600 kg (3527.4 lb) of fuel (with atleast 500 kg (1102.3 lb) in the outer fuel cell). Refuel or transfer fuel as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-004) or (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001).

C. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040).
Subtask 28-16-00-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: INSTALL CAPS AND PLUGS ON THE ORIFICES OF ALL DISCONNECTED PIPES AND PARTS FOR THEIR PROTECTION AGAINST CONTAMINATION BY UNWANTED MATERIALS.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
D. Preparation For Check
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 3 L(3/4 USGAL) below the fuel return tube (2).
   (2) Remove the nuts (6), the washers (5), the screws (1) and the clamps (3) from the fuel return tube (2).
   (3) Loosen the nut (7) of the fuel return tube (2) to drain the fuel.
   (4) When all the fuel has drained from the fuel return tube (2), disconnect it from the fuel return valve (8).
NOTE: You must wait for a period of 10 minutes to let the fuel drain completely.
   (5) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the open connection of the fuel return valve (8).

E. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040).

CAUTION: INSTALL CAPS AND PLUGS ON THE ORIFICES OF ALL DISCONNECTED PIPES AND PARTS FOR THEIR PROTECTION AGAINST CONTAMINATION BY UNWANTED MATERIALS.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
F. Preparation for Check
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 3 L(3/4 USGAL) below the fuel return tube (4).
   (2) Remove the nut (1), the screw (6) and the washer (5). Move the clamp (3) with the fuel return tube (4) away from the bracket (2).
   (3) Loosen the nut (7) of the fuel return tube (4) to drain the fuel.
   (4) When all the fuel has drained from the fuel return tube (4), disconnect it from the fuel return valve (8).
NOTE: You must wait for a period of 10 minutes to let the fuel drain completely.
   (5) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the open end of the fuel return valve (8).

G. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802).
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (2) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).
   (3) Open the left thrust-reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802).
Subtask 28-16-00-860-050-F ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: INSTALL CAPS AND PLUGS ON THE ORIFICES OF ALL DISCONNECTED PIPES AND PARTS FOR THEIR PROTECTION AGAINST CONTAMINATION BY UNWANTED MATERIALS.
CAUTION: USE A SECOND WRENCH TO HOLD THE MATING PARTS WHEN YOU LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE TUBE OR HOSE NUTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS CAUTION, YOU CAN TWIST OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TUBES OR HOSES.
H. Preparation for Check
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL) below the valve (1).
   (2) Disconnect the harness (WC11) from the valve (1) with the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT.
   (3) Disconnect the fuel tube from the valve (1).
   (4) Let the fuel drain from the fuel tube:
     (a) You must wait for a period of 10 minutes to let the fuel drain completely.
   (5) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the open end of the valve (1).
   (6) Installation of protection covers:
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-16-00-790-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Operational Check of the Fuel Recirculation Check Valve to Ensure Valve Has Not Failed Open
   (1) Monitor the fuel return tube (2) for 10 minutes.
NOTE: A leak rate of 8 drops a minute is permitted.
   (2) If there is fuel leakage from the fuel return tube (2):
     (a) Remove the fuel recirculation check-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 28-16-42-000-001).
     (b) Install a new fuel recirculation check-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 28-16-42-400-001).

CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Remove the blanking cap from the fuel return valve (8). Loosely connect the nut (7) of the fuel return tube (2) to the fuel return valve (8).
   (2) Install the three clamps (3) on the fuel return tube (2). Loosely attach the clamps to their related brackets (4) with the screws (1), the washers (5) and the nuts (6).
   (3) TORQUE the nut (7) of the fuel return tube (2) to between 472.70 and 428.40 lbf.in (5.34 and 4.84 m.daN ) T.
   (4) TORQUE the screws (1) to between 36 and 24 lbf.in (0.41 and 0.27 m.daN )

D. Operational Check of the Fuel Recirculation Check Valve to Ensure Valve Has Not Failed Open
   (1) Monitor the fuel return tube (4) for 10 minutes.

   (2) If there is fuel leakage from the fuel return tube (4):
     (a) Remove the fuel recirculation check-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 28-16-42-000-001).
     (b) Install a new fuel recirculation check-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 28-16-42-400-001).

CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
E. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Remove the blanking cap from the fuel return valve (8). Loosely connect the nut (7) of the fuel return tube (4) to the fuel return valve (8).
   (2) Install the fuel return tube (4) and the clamp (3) on the bracket (2) with the screw (6), the washer (5) and the nut (1).
   (3) TORQUE the nut (7) of the fuel return tube (4) to between 1050 and 1000 lbf.in (11.87 and 11.30 m.daN ) T.
   (4) TORQUE the screws (6) to between 36 and 24 lbf.in (0.41 and 0.27 m.daN )

     (a) Remove the fuel recirculation check-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 28-16-42-000-001).
     (b) Install a new fuel recirculation check-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 28-16-42-400-001).

   (3) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802).

B. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the SAFETY BARRIERS.
   (3) Remove the container.
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
