Removal of the Vapor Seal


NOTE: You must take care when you work with the vapor seal. Prevent distortion of the metal attach frames and fittings. Make sure that there are no tears, scratches or folded areas on the vapor seal-membrane.

Subtask 28-13-42-860-050-A
A. De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
Subtask 28-13-42-010-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Get Access
   (1) Remove ozone filter(s) (converter) 100HM (101HM) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-51-41-000-001).
   (2) Remove the air conditioning pack(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-41-000-001).
   (3) Remove the pack flow-control valve(s)/pack flow-control unit(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-51-51-000-001).
   (4) Remove the applicable pipe assemblies (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-23-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-23-000-003).
   (5) Remove the bleed air duct(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 36-12-41-000-001):
     (a) Remove the bleed air duct (100)
F Trim-Air Duct ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (b) Remove the bleed air ducts (101), (102)
F Bleed-Air Duct ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: MAKE MATCH MARKS ON ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THEM. INCORRECT CONNECTION OF WIRES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (6) Disconnect the applicable electrical harnesses from the receptacles.
     (a) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
NOTE: If necessary, remove the harness from the air conditioning compartment to get access to the vapor seal.
Subtask 28-13-42-010-051-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Get Access
   (1) Remove ozone filter(s) (converter) 100HM (101HM) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-51-41-000-001).
   (2) Remove the air conditioning pack(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-41-000-001).
   (3) Remove the pack flow-control valve(s)/pack flow-control unit(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 21-51-51-000-001).
   (4) Remove the pipe assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 21-52-23-000-002).
   (5) Remove the bleed air duct(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 36-12-41-000-001):
     (a) Remove the bleed air duct (100)
F Trim-Air Duct ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (b) Remove the bleed air ducts (101), (102)
F Bleed-Air Duct ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: MAKE MATCH MARKS ON ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THEM. INCORRECT CONNECTION OF WIRES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (6) Disconnect the applicable electrical harnesses from the receptacles.
     (a) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
NOTE: If necessary, remove the harness from the air conditioning compartment to get access to the vapor seal.
   (7) Remove the magnetic level-indicator upper-housing (Ref. AMM TASK 28-43-23-000-004).
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-13-42-020-051-B
A. Removal of the Vapor Seal
NOTE: Identify the positions of different lengths of screws and studs before you start the removal. Also identify the positions of the attach frames, of the lateral and longitudinal attach fittings and of the sealing strips.
   (1) Remove the LH Vapor Seal-Membrane:
     (a) Remove the nuts (2) and the washers (3) from the studs (4) around the heat shield (5) and from some positions at the attach frames (12), (13), (14) and (15).
     (b) Remove the heat shield (5) from the studs (4).
     (c) Remove the studs (4), the washers (3) and the spring washers (8) from the attach frames (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), (14) and (15).
     (d) Remove the attach frames, the seals (76) and the sealing strips (75) from the LH vapor seal-membrane (1).
     (e) Remove the studs (4), the washers (3) and the spring washers (8) from the longitudinal fittings (16), (17), (18), (19), (20), (21), (22), (23) and (24).
     (f) Remove the screws (6) and the washers (7) from the lateral fittings (25), (26), (27), (28), (29) and (30).
     (g) Remove the lateral fittings , seals (76) and the sealing strips (75) from the LH vapor seal-membrane (1).
     (h) Remove the studs (4), the washers (3) and the spring washers (8) from the longitudinal fittings (31), (32), (33) and (34) where the vapor seal is divided.
     (i) Remove the longitudinal fittings, seals (76) and the sealing strips (75) from the LH vapor seal-membrane (1).
     (j) Remove the LH vapor seal-membrane (1) from the lower surface of the center-tank.
   (2) Remove the CTR Vapor Seal-Membrane:
     (a) Remove the studs (4), the washers (3) and the spring washers (8) from the attach frame (36) and from the longitudinal fittings (37), (38), (39) and (40).
     (b) Remove the attach frame, the longitudinal fittings and the sealing strips (75) from the CTR vapor seal-membrane (35).
     (c) Remove the screws (6) and the washers (7) from the lateral fittings (41), (42), (43), (44) and (45).
     (d) Remove the lateral fittings and the sealing strips (75) from the CTR vapor seal-membrane (35).
     (e) Remove the CTR vapor seal-membrane (35) from the center-tank lower surface.
   (3) Remove the RH Vapor Seal-Membrane:
     (a) Remove the nuts (2) and the washers (3) from the studs (4) around the heat shield (47) and from some positions at the attach frames (48), (49), (53) and (55).
     (b) Remove the heat shield (47) from the studs (4).
     (c) Remove the studs (4), the washers (3) and the spring washers (8) from the attach frames (48), (49), (50), (51), (52), (53), (54) and (55).
     (d) Remove the attach frames, seals (77) and the sealing strips (75) from the RH vapor seal-membrane (46).
     (e) Remove the studs (4), the washers (3) and the spring washers (8) from the longitudinal fittings (56), (57), (58), (59), (60), (61), (62), (63), (64), (65) and (66).
     (f) Remove the longitudinal fittings, seals (77) and the sealing strips (75) from the RH vapor seal-membrane (46).
     (g) Remove the screws (6) and the washers (7) from the lateral fittings (67), (68), (69), (70), (71) and (72).
     (h) Remove the lateral fittings, seals (77) and the sealing strips (75) from the RH vapor seal-membrane (46).
     (i) Remove the RH vapor seal-membrane (46) from the lower surface of the center-tank.

B. Examine the Vapor Seal/Attachment Fitting Seals
   (1) Examine the seals (3) of the vapor seals (1)/attachment fittings (2) for damage/wear, if they have damage/wear, replace them (Ref. AMM TASK 28-13-42-300-001).
