Installation of the Inner Manhole-Cover ACT
WARNING:
THIS PROCEDURE USES A FUEL SYSTEM ITEM THAT IS IN A CATEGORY KNOWN AS A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL). CDCCL IDENTIFIES AN ITEM THAT CAN BE THE SOURCE OF A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK IGNITION. YOU MUST KEEP ALL CDCCL ITEMS IN THE APPROVED CONFIGURATION. DAMAGE, WEAR OR CHANGES TO A CDCCL ITEM CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
(2) Obey the safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(3) Make sure that the ground service network is energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
(4) Make sure that WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position on:
Subtask 28-11-37-010-059-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
(2) Obey the safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(3) Make sure that the ground service network is energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
(4) Make sure that WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position on:
- Refuel/Defuel control-panels 800VU and 801VU
- Fuel control-panel 40VU
- Additional Center Tank (ACT) control-panel 28VU
to tell persons not to operate the fuel system.
B. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the applicable Additional Center Tank (ACT) is removed from the aft cargo-compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-001).
Subtask 28-11-37-010-059-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the applicable Additional Center Tank (ACT) is removed from the aft cargo-compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-001).
NOTE: Always remove the ACT from the cargo-compartment before you remove a manhole cover from the ACT.
(2) Make sure that the outer manhole cover is removed from the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-004). B. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the applicable Additional Center Tank (ACT) is removed from the aft cargo compartment:
(a) For ACT AFT2:
1 Make sure that the ACT AFT2 is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-003).
(b) For ACT AFT1:
1 Make sure that the ACT AFT1 is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-002).
(2) Make sure that the outer manhole cover is removed from the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-004).
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the applicable Additional Center Tank (ACT) is removed from the aft cargo compartment:
(a) For ACT AFT2:
1 Make sure that the ACT AFT2 is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-003).
(b) For ACT AFT1:
1 Make sure that the ACT AFT1 is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-002).
(2) Make sure that the outer manhole cover is removed from the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-004).

A. Installation of the inner manhole cover.

(1) Obey the safety procedures when you work on a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(2) Remove the cover-protection from the manhole of the ACT.
(3) Clean the surface of the ACT manhole cover with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(a) Make sure there is no unwanted material in the ACT.
(5) Prepare for electrical bonding:
(6) Apply a thin layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) on the new AIPC 28-11-37-01-070 O-RING (2).
(7) Put the O-ring (2) on the inner manhole cover (3).
(8) Make sure that there are no unwanted objects and materials, tools or other equipment in the ACT.
(9) Put the inner manhole cover (3) in position on the ACT (1).
(12) Torque the nuts (5) to between 0.8 and 0.7 m.daN (70.80 and 61.95 lbf.in )
in a sequence opposite to one another.

THIS INSTRUCTION IS APPLICABLE TO A CRITICAL DESIGN CONFIGURATION CONTROL LIMITATION (CDCCL) ITEM. CAREFULLY OBEY ALL GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU DO THIS STEP. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, A DANGEROUS CONDITION CAN OCCUR THAT CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION.
(a) Do the electrical bonding of components with conductive bolts and screws in the tank (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802). (6) Apply a thin layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) on the new AIPC 28-11-37-01-070 O-RING (2).
(7) Put the O-ring (2) on the inner manhole cover (3).
(8) Make sure that there are no unwanted objects and materials, tools or other equipment in the ACT.
(9) Put the inner manhole cover (3) in position on the ACT (1).
NOTE: Make sure that the O-ring stays in the groove of the cover when you put the inner manhole cover in position.
(10) Install the washers (4) and the nuts (5) on the inner manhole cover (3). NOTE: The nuts and the washers of the bonding points must be installed on the initial position.
(11) Tighten the nuts (5) in a sequence opposite to one another with your hand. (12) Torque the nuts (5) to between 0.8 and 0.7 m.daN (70.80 and 61.95 lbf.in )

(2) Remove the cover-protection from the manhole of the ACT (1).
(3) Clean the surface of the inner manhole cover (2) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(a) Make sure there is no unwanted material in the ACT (1).
(5) Prepare for electrical bonding:
(6) For ACT AFT1:
(a) Apply a thin layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) on the new AIPC 28-11-84-30-070 O-RING (3) and AIPC 28-11-84-30-100 SEALING RING (6).
(7) For ACT AFT2:
(a) Apply a thin layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) on the new AIPC 28-11-27-24-075 O-RING (3) and AIPC 28-11-27-24-330 SEALING RING (6).
(8) Put the O-ring (3) in the groove of the inner manhole cover (2).
(9) Put the inner manhole cover (2) in its installation position on the ACT (1):
(a) The O-ring (3) must stay in the groove during installation of the inner manhole cover (2).
(10) Install the washers (5), the new sealing rings (6) and the nuts (4) on the inner manhole cover (2).
(11) Tighten the nuts (4) with your hand in a sequence opposite to one another.
(12) TORQUE the nuts (4) to between 0.8 and 0.7 m.daN (70.80 and 61.95 lbf.in )
in a sequence opposite to one another.
(13) Apply surface protection on the nuts (4) and the washers (5) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
Subtask 28-11-37-790-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL 5. Close-upNOTE: The installation of the inner manhole cover is the same for all ACT types.
(1) When you connect/install the components, refer to the match marks made during the removal procedure.(2) Remove the cover-protection from the manhole of the ACT (1).
(3) Clean the surface of the inner manhole cover (2) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(a) Make sure there is no unwanted material in the ACT (1).
(5) Prepare for electrical bonding:

(a) Prepare the components for electrical bonding (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802). Refer to the figure for the bonding location.(6) For ACT AFT1:
(a) Apply a thin layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) on the new AIPC 28-11-84-30-070 O-RING (3) and AIPC 28-11-84-30-100 SEALING RING (6).
(7) For ACT AFT2:
(a) Apply a thin layer of Mineral Oil base Grease-- Vaseline or Petrolatum - (Material No.03FAB1) on the new AIPC 28-11-27-24-075 O-RING (3) and AIPC 28-11-27-24-330 SEALING RING (6).
(8) Put the O-ring (3) in the groove of the inner manhole cover (2).
(9) Put the inner manhole cover (2) in its installation position on the ACT (1):
(a) The O-ring (3) must stay in the groove during installation of the inner manhole cover (2).
(10) Install the washers (5), the new sealing rings (6) and the nuts (4) on the inner manhole cover (2).
(11) Tighten the nuts (4) with your hand in a sequence opposite to one another.
(12) TORQUE the nuts (4) to between 0.8 and 0.7 m.daN (70.80 and 61.95 lbf.in )
in a sequence opposite to one another. (13) Apply surface protection on the nuts (4) and the washers (5) (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).

A. Close Access
(1) Install the outer manhole cover on the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-400-004).
(2) Install the ACT in the aft cargo-compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-400-001).

(1) Install the outer manhole cover on the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-400-004).
(2) Install the applicable ACT in the cargo-compartment:
(a) For ACT AFT1:
1 Install the ACT AFT1 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-400-002).
(b) For ACT AFT2:
1 Install the ACT AFT2 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-400-003).
Subtask 28-11-37-860-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Install the outer manhole cover on the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-400-004).
(2) Install the applicable ACT in the cargo-compartment:
(a) For ACT AFT1:
1 Install the ACT AFT1 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-400-002).
(b) For ACT AFT2:
1 Install the ACT AFT2 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-400-003).
B. Put the aircraft back to the serviceable condition.
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) On refuel/defuel control-panels 800VU and 801VU, on fuel control-panel 40VU and ACT control-panel 28VU:
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-862-001).
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
