BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
(1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001). (2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flight controls and the landing gear doors.
(3) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.
B. Fuel Configuration
(1) Defuel the applicable wing tanks and the center tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
Subtask 28-11-00-860-066-A (1) Defuel the applicable wing tanks and the center tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
NOTE: Defuel the center tank for the LH wing tanks only.
(2) Drain the fuel that remains from the wing, the vent surge and, if applicable, the center tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003). C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Extend the flaps fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
(2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the slat/flap control lever.
(3) Extend the spoilers (Ref. AMM TASK 27-60-00-866-002).
(4) Make sure that the 98D27604000000 COLLAR-SAFETY, SPOILER or 98D27604004000 COLLAR SAFETY SPOILER is on the spoiler servo-controls.
Subtask 28-11-00-865-081-A (1) Extend the flaps fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
(2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the slat/flap control lever.

E. Get Access
(1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable access panel 550AB 650AB.
(2) Open the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(3) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is on the MLG door actuators.
(4) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the access panels 147AZ 148AZ.
(5) Remove the access panels 147AZ 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(6) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE below the applicable zones 521(621) and 522(622).
(7) Remove the leading-edge access-panels as required, to get access to the front of the wing tanks.
Subtask 28-11-00-010-063-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable access panel 550AB 650AB.
(2) Open the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(3) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is on the MLG door actuators.
(4) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the access panels 147AZ 148AZ.
(5) Remove the access panels 147AZ 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(6) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE below the applicable zones 521(621) and 522(622).
(7) Remove the leading-edge access-panels as required, to get access to the front of the wing tanks.
E. Get Access
(1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable access panel 550AB 650AB.
(2) Open the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(3) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is on the MLG door actuators.
(4) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the access panel 148AZ.
(5) Remove the access panel 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(6) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE below the applicable zones 521(621) and 522(622).
(7) Remove the leading-edge access-panels as required, to get access to the front of the wing tanks.
Subtask 28-11-00-480-052-A (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable access panel 550AB 650AB.
(2) Open the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).

(6) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE below the applicable zones 521(621) and 522(622).
(7) Remove the leading-edge access-panels as required, to get access to the front of the wing tanks.
F. Installation of Equipment
(1) For the left wing only, install a CAP - BLANKING on the center-tank vent pipe.
(2) Install the 98D57204000000 DUMMY DOOR-NACA VENT as follows:
(a) Remove the applicable bolts (10).
(b) Put the 98D57204000000 DUMMY DOOR-NACA VENT (13) in position and attach it with the washers (11) and the bolts (12).
(c) Connect the VACUUM EQUIPMENT 0 TO 0.2 BAR (3 PSI) to the 98D57204000000 DUMMY DOOR-NACA VENT (13).
(d) Connect a GAGE 0.07 TO 0.27 BAR (1 TO 4 PSI) - NEGATIVE PRESSURE to the 98D57204000000 DUMMY DOOR-NACA VENT (13).
4. Procedure(1) For the left wing only, install a CAP - BLANKING on the center-tank vent pipe.
(2) Install the 98D57204000000 DUMMY DOOR-NACA VENT as follows:
(a) Remove the applicable bolts (10).
(b) Put the 98D57204000000 DUMMY DOOR-NACA VENT (13) in position and attach it with the washers (11) and the bolts (12).
(c) Connect the VACUUM EQUIPMENT 0 TO 0.2 BAR (3 PSI) to the 98D57204000000 DUMMY DOOR-NACA VENT (13).
(d) Connect a GAGE 0.07 TO 0.27 BAR (1 TO 4 PSI) - NEGATIVE PRESSURE to the 98D57204000000 DUMMY DOOR-NACA VENT (13).

A. Leak Test
(1) Mix the Testing Medium-Leak Detection Fluorescent - (Material No.14CBD1) or Testing Medium-Leak Detection Dye Yellow - (Material No.14CBC1) (refer to the dye manufacturers instructions for the details).
(2) Operation of the vacuum equipment
(3) Use a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT or a SYRINGE to apply the dye solution to the tank (external surface only).
(4) Keep the area wet for a minimum of 30 minutes, as follows:
(6) Remove the applicable fuel tank access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
Subtask 28-11-00-790-059-A (1) Mix the Testing Medium-Leak Detection Fluorescent - (Material No.14CBD1) or Testing Medium-Leak Detection Dye Yellow - (Material No.14CBC1) (refer to the dye manufacturers instructions for the details).
(2) Operation of the vacuum equipment
CAUTION:
THE NEGATIVE PRESSURE MUST NOT BE MORE THAN 2.9 PSI (0.20 BAR) FOR SAFETY.
(a) Operate the VACUUM EQUIPMENT 0 TO 1 BAR (15 PSI) so that there is a maximum negative pressure of 2.9 p.s.i. (0.20 bar). (3) Use a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT or a SYRINGE to apply the dye solution to the tank (external surface only).
(4) Keep the area wet for a minimum of 30 minutes, as follows:
- above the wing, make a dam with Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) and fill the dam with the dye solution
- below the wing, attach a BAG - PLASTIC filled with the dye solution
- vertical faces of the tank, use the putty or the plastic bag procedure.
(6) Remove the applicable fuel tank access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
B. Visual Inspection
(1) Make a visual inspection inside the tank and look for signs of the dye (refer to the dye manufacturers instructions for details).
(2) If the dye has not gone into the tank, no more tests are necessary.
(3) If the dye has gone into the tank, make a mark at the location of the leak.

(1) Use Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to remove dye from the tank.
(2) Make sure that all the dye is removed and that the tank is clean.

(2) On the spoiler servo-control, make sure that the pointer on the hex. head is opposite the letter 'O' on the housing.
(3) Retract the flaps fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
(4) Refuel, defuel or transfer fuel as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
Subtask 28-11-00-942-079-A WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Retract the spoilers (Ref. AMM TASK 27-60-00-866-002). (2) On the spoiler servo-control, make sure that the pointer on the hex. head is opposite the letter 'O' on the housing.
(3) Retract the flaps fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
(4) Refuel, defuel or transfer fuel as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
E. Removal of Equipment
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the safety barriers.
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
(5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(6) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
(7) Close the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the safety barriers.
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
(5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(6) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
(7) Close the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
