A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
   (2) Put a warning notice in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
   (3) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.

B. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Defuel the applicable fuel tanks (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (2) Drain the remaining fuel from the applicable fuel and vent surge tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Extend the flaps fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the slat/flap control lever.
   (3) Extend the spoilers (Ref. AMM TASK 27-60-00-866-002).
   (4) Make sure that the 98D27604000000 COLLAR-SAFETY, SPOILER or 98D27604004000 COLLAR SAFETY SPOILER is on the spoiler servo-controls.

E. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable access panel.
   (2) Remove the applicable wing leading-edge access panels, to get access to the front of the fuel tanks.
   (3) Remove the applicable wing trailing edge access panels, to get access to the rear of the fuel tanks.
   (4) Remove the applicable fuel tank access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-11-00-790-057-A
A. Leak Test
   (1) Use a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT to apply Testing Medium-Leak Detection - Oxygen System (Material No.14CCB6) to the internal surfaces of the fuel tank.
   (2) Compressed air procedure.
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS.
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
     (a) Point a GROUND AIR-SUPPLY UNIT(LOW PRESSURE) at the leak area from outside of the tank.
   (3) Where there are bubbles in the tank, mark the location of the leak.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the applicable fuel tank access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-002).
   (3) Install the applicable wing leading-edge access panels.
   (4) Install the applicable wing trailing-edge access panels.

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.

   (4) Install the applicable wing trailing-edge access panels.

C. Aircraft Configuration
   (1) Refuel, defuel or transfer fuel as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003), (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001).
   (2) Retract the spoilers (Ref. AMM TASK 27-60-00-866-002).
   (3) On the spoiler servo-control, make sure that the pointer on the hex. head is opposite the letter 'O' on the housing.
   (4) Fully retract the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the safety barriers.
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
   (5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (6) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
