C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below the LH(RH) wing vent/surge tank.
(2) Put the CONTAINER 100 L(25 USGAL) below the LH(RH) vent surge tank NACA vent.
(3) The applicable vent surge tank must be full of fuel for a minimum 30 minutes before the test.
(4) Refuel the applicable wing tank fully and keep the fuel tanker connected to the aircraft (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).
(5) For the left wing surge tank only, refuel the center tank fully. Keep the fuel tanker connected to the aircraft (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).
(6) On panel 800VU, put the MODE SELECT switch to REFUEL.
(7) On panel 800VU, put the applicable REFUEL VALVES switches to OPEN.
(8) On panel 800VU, put and hold the TEST switch at HI.LVL, see that the applicable HI.LVL. light (blue) goes out.
(9) Set the fuel tanker to its lowest flow-rate and pressure. When fuel flows from the NACA vent intake, release the TEST switch. Put the applicable wing tank REFUEL VALVES switch on panel 800VU to SHUT.
(10) Stop the operation of the fuel tanker and disconnect it.
(11) On panel 800VU, put the MODE SELECT switch to OFF.
(12) Clean all fuel from the external surface of the vent surge tank.

A. Leak Test on the Wing Vent/Surge Tanks - With Fuel
(1) Visual Inspection
(a) Look for signs of fuel leakage in these areas:
(b) Dry the area fully with a GROUND AIR-SUPPLY UNIT(LOW PRESSURE).
(c) Apply Testing Medium-Fuel Leak Detection White Powder - (Material No.14CDB1) to the area with a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT.
(d) Monitor the area for a change in color of the talcum powder. This will show the location of a fuel leak and the rate of the leakage.
5. Close-up(1) Visual Inspection
(a) Look for signs of fuel leakage in these areas:
- tank seals and sealant
- structure, brackets and clamps
- fuel pipelines, couplings, bonded items, brackets and clamps.
WARNING:
WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
- USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
- DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS.
CAUTION:
USE THE TALCUM POWDER PROCEDURE ONLY ON THE EXTERNAL SURFACES OF THE FUEL TANKS.
(a) Dry the area of the possible leak with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
