3. Job Set-up
Subtask 28-11-00-941-080-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
WARNING: OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) If you want to test the RIB1 you must do the Leak Test with Fuel of the Wing-Tank Outer and Inner Cells (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-00-790-002).
   (3) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the flight controls and the MLG doors.
   (4) Make sure that the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is on the flap/slat control lever.
   (5) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Fully refuel the center tank (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).

F. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) in position:
  • on the left wing, below zones 541
  • on the right wing, below zones 641.
   (2) Remove the applicable leading-edge access panel:
   (3) Open the main gear doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001) to get access to the rear of the center tank.
   (4) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is on the applicable main gear door actuator.
   (5) For access to the front of the center tank remove the access panels 132PW 131NW 131PW.

G. Drain the Fuel
   (1) Drain all remaining fuel from the leak monitor 500QM with the 97A28002117002 TOOL-PURGING and a CONTAINER 1 L (1/4 USGAL).
4. Procedure
Subtask 28-11-00-790-055-A
A. Visual Inspection
   (1) Look for signs of fuel leakage in these areas:
  • tank seals and sealant
  • structure, brackets and clamps
  • fuel pipelines, couplings, bonded items, brackets and clamps.
  • examine the leak monitor 500QM with the 97A28002117002 TOOL-PURGING to see if there is a leak.
   (2) Talcum Powder Procedure
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS.
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
CAUTION: USE THE TALCUM POWDER PROCEDURE ONLY ON THE EXTERNAL SURFACES OF THE FUEL TANKS.
     (a) Dry the area of the possible leak with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
     (b) Dry the area fully with a GROUND AIR-SUPPLY UNIT(LOW PRESSURE) .
     (c) Apply Testing Medium-Fuel Leak Detection White Powder - (Material No.14CDB1) to the area with a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT.
     (d) Monitor the area for a change in color of the talcum powder. This will show the location of a fuel leak and the rate of the leakage.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the access panels 132PW 131NW 131PW.
   (3) Install the leading-edge access panels 521AB 621AB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-400-002).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
   (5) Close the main gear doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
