A. Safety Precautions

WARNING: BEFORE YOU DO WORK IN OR NEAR A FUEL TANK, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PROCEDURES. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

(1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(3) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear doors.
(4) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

Subtask 28-11-00-650-109-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

B. Fuel Configuration
(1) The applicable wing-tank outer and inner cells must be full of fuel for a minimum of 30 minutes before the test.
(2) Fully refuel the applicable wing tank (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).
(3) Drain the remaining fuel form the center tank and the vent surge tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Fully extend the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
(2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is on the slat/flap control lever.
(3) Extend the spoilers fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-60-00-866-002).
(4) Make sure that the 98D27604000000 COLLAR-SAFETY, SPOILER or 98D27604004000 COLLAR SAFETY SPOILER is on each of the spoiler servo-controls.

Subtask 28-11-00-010-057-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

D. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) in position below the applicable zone 550 or 650.
(2) Remove the applicable NACA vent intake 550AB 650AB (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(3) Open the MLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
(4) Make sure that the 460005835 SLEEVE - GROUND LOCK is on the applicable MLG door actuator.
(5) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in the applicable MLG bay below the access panel 147AZ 148AZ.
(6) Remove the applicable access panel 147AZ 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
(7) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable zone 521(621).
(8) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable zone 522(622).
(9) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in the applicable MLG bays below the Wing tank rear spar.
(10) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable zone 574(674).
(11) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable zone 575(675).
(12) Remove the applicable leading-edge access panels:

A. Visual Inspection
(1) Look for signs of fuel leakage in these areas:

tank seals and sealant
structure, brackets and clamps
fuel pipelines, couplings, bonded items, brackets and clamps.

(2) Talcum Powder Procedure:

WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:

USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS.

LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.

CAUTION: USE THE TALCUM POWDER PROCEDURE ONLY ON THE EXTERNAL SURFACES OF THE FUEL TANKS.

(a) Dry the area of the possible leak with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(b) Dry the area fully with a GROUND AIR-SUPPLY UNIT(LOW PRESSURE).
(c) Apply Testing Medium-Fuel Leak Detection White Powder - (Material No.14CDB1) to the area with a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT.
(d) Monitor the area for a change in color of the talcum powder. This will show the location of a fuel leak and the rate of the leakage.

5. Close-up

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the applicable NACA vent intake 550AB 650AB (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-400-001).
(3) Install the dry-bay access cover 521AZ 521BZ 621AZ 621BZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-400-005).
(4) Install the access panels 147AZ 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001).
(5) Install the applicable leading-edge access panels:

for the left wing, 521AB 521CB 521EB 522AB 522CB 522FB 522HB 522HB 522JB 522KB 522LB 522NB 522QB (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-400-002) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-400-006)

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Fully retract the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).
(2) Retract the spoilers fully (Ref. AMM TASK 27-60-00-866-002).
(3) On the spoiler servo-control, make sure that the pointer on the hex. head is opposite the letter 'O' on the housing.
(4) Refuel, defuel or transfer fuel, as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).

C. Removal of Equipment
(1) Remove the safety barriers.
(2) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
(3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
