WARNING:
MAKE SURE THE AREA AROUND THE AIRCRAFT IS SAFE BEFORE YOU START THE REFUEL/DEFUEL PROCEDURE. IN THE SAFETY AREA, DO NOT:
- SMOKE
- MAKE SPARKS OR FIRE
- USE ANY EQUIPMENT WHICH IS NOT APPROVED FOR REFUEL/DEFUEL PROCEDURES.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES.
IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER.
IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP.
AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.
WARNING:
DO NOT GET YOUR CLOTHES SOAKED WITH FUEL.
WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
YOU MUST USE THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT INJURY FROM HEAT.
THE LOCATION FOR THIS TASK CAN BE VERY HOT.
CAUTION:
DO NOT REFUEL OR DEFUEL THROUGH THE TWO REFUEL/DEFUEL COUPLINGS AT THE SAME TIME.
THIS IS TO PREVENT PRESSURE DIFFERENCE PROBLEMS.
CAUTION:
YOU MUST DISCARD O-RINGS ON DISCONNECTED PIPES AND INSTALL NEW O-RINGS DURING INSTALLATION OF THE PIPES. THIS PREVENTS POSSIBLE LEAKS.

A. Fuel Pipes
This topic gives the general procedure for the removal and installation of the fuel pipes in the fuel system. It includes the pipes for these systems:
In general, it is not necessary to wirelock the fuel couplings inside the fuel tanks. The fuel couplings are self-locking.
Refer to the removal/installation topic of the related component(s) for the data on a fuel pipe joint at a component interface. It is possible that you must remove a component before you can remove the applicable fuel pipe.
(1) Sliding Joints
Some fuel pipes are connected together with sliding joints which have O-ring seals. If a retaining ring becomes loose, the fuel pipes cannot become disconnected. You have to compress more than two of the sliding joints to get the necessary clearance to disconnect these fuel pipes.
(2) Long Fuel Pipes
The long fuel pipes between RIB15 and RIB21 are removed as follows:
