Identification of the Side Stick Installed on the Aircraft

1. Reason for the Job
You can have two different side sticks installed on the aircraft:
  • A side stick assembly or/and
  • A new-generation side-stick unit.
    This task is used to know which side stick is installed on the aircraft.

3. Job Set-up

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002)
   (2) Make sure that the aircraft hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).

B. Get access to the cockpit.
4. Procedure

A. Identification of the Side Stick Installed on the Aircraft:
   (1) On the CAPT and/or F/O side(s):
     (a) Do a visual check of the side stick to see if it has:
  • A cross-head screw on the inboard side of the head of the control handle, and
  • A "V" shape made around the takeover and priority pushbutton switch.
     (b) With a MIRROR - INSPECTION, FLEXIBLE, do a visual check to see if there is an identification plate installed below the base of the control handle (outboard side).
   (2) If the side stick has one of these characteristics:
  • A cross-head screw on the inboard side of the head of the control handle,
  • A "V" shape made around the takeover and priority pushbutton switch,
  • An identification plate installed below the base of the control handle (outboard side).
     (a) The side stick installed on the aircraft is a new-generation side-stick unit.
   (3) If the side stick does not have one of these characteristics:
  • A cross-head screw on the inboard side of the head of the control handle,
  • A "V" shape made around the takeover and priority pushbutton switch,
  • An identification plate installed below the base of the control handle.
     (a) The side stick installed on the aircraft is a side stick assembly.
5. Close-up

A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002)
